JamieLogical's Live from the MSC Meraviglia 10/25

that's not what I meant. I meant - I want a normal bed in a studio cabin. -
"You are required to download the mobile app prior to sailing"
Itchy&Scratchy replied to fshagan's topic in Celebrity Cruises
It's not required (my parents don't use it), and it's not actually bad. It worked great for us on all our Medallion cruises. We all have Android phones (namely, Samsung Galaxies of different ages). -

that's a bit sad, innit? The only way it's acceptable to us personally is when the 3rd bed is a sofa bed, and the kid gets to sleep on it... -

I am so confused. Is there a regular bed in that cabin? -
5) I would head to the airport when you disembark. There is no point in waiting for "a few hours" anywhere else before an international flight.

JamieLogical's Live from the MSC Meraviglia 10/25

for one person? We travel with 2 28" half empty bags 36-40# each (because we usually fly on Spirit) and 3 small backpacks with medications/electronics/emergency stuff. There are 3 of us on 7-10 night cruises. My mom and dad sometimes cruise with us and are limited to one 40# 28" roller suitcase and 2 small backpacks with medications/electronics/emergency stuff. But then - we once saw a young couple that had around 12 large suitcases piled on a cart... They were all the same color/style, so it was easy to tell. -
my 12 yo loves Princess ships, even though he doesn't even do kid's club.

Drinks Questions on MSC. Never Cruised Before.
Itchy&Scratchy replied to GrnXnham's topic in MSC Cruises
I believe the non-alcoholic package is around $200 for our 7 day cruise. That's around $28 a day. That's a lot of money for soft drinks per day for us personally. We only buy a soda package when it's less than $10/day - that's around the amount of breaking even for us. Looking at the drinks menu, I see that they charge $1.50 for milk. I guess milk may be free only at the buffet (like pitchers of it at a coffee station), but this is just my assumption. We've never sailed with MSC before. I do drink hot tea with milk, so I will definitely pay attention when we are onboard in a month. Probably the most accurate review of MSC's food I've seen...
Itchy&Scratchy replied to Stockjock's topic in MSC Cruises
we are definitely MDR folks, and we were pleasantly surprised by the Oasis MDR food this year, after the menu changed. There were only a couple of meh dishes. And the additional MDR entrees were free, unlike MSC. Now if we find a dish not to be to our liking on Seascape, we'll have to pay to sample another entree. 😞 Now, the quality and variety at the Windjammer buffet and Park Cafe went downhill for sure. I am looking forward to judging Seascape's MDR and buffet food in person in less than 30 days. -
absolutely NOT. I wouldn't do it even in FLL where the airport is very close to the port. And not with MSC even in FLL.

that is not the same as a US citizen cruising on a closed loop Caribbean cruise.

Day trip ideas for a family with a toddler.
Itchy&Scratchy replied to dawoz's topic in Florida Departures
we are traveling with a well behaved 12, 75 and 73 yo, and also have a 6 pm flight. We are not taking any chances.... Getting off the ship around 9,leisurely getting an uber/shuttle, having a leisurely lunch at the airport, finally drop off luggage, sit and read... board the plane. we've done this many times. Also, having no car seat limits your options. -

and in addition to the above: you don't know the history of a rental car seat. It may have been in an accident and put back into circulation instead of being disposed of, or could have been puked/pooped/peed on and then improperly cleaned, thereby jeopardizing the safety and integrity of the seat.

I don't know about Jamie, but I found that getting the suitcases out and filling them up with the stuff I don't need at home but will need on a cruise, sooner rather than later works much better for me than leaving everything for the last 2 days. Stress causes migraines, and who wants to start a cruise with a migraine? Been there, done that, don't want to anymore. 🙂 Since I pack for 3 people instead of one, I really need an earlier start. Saves sanity. Especially when it comes to the whole pharmacy for 3 people, one of whom is accident prone (hint - it's the child). -
you are fine. My kid's passport is only good for a month after our cruise in November. It's fine for a Caribbean cruise. funny how you only saw the non-US passport expiration date, but didn't ask if you had to have a US visa. 🙂

sofa bed in standard size balcony cabins for 3rd pax?
Itchy&Scratchy replied to sandinmyshoes's topic in Princess Cruises
that's not how it looked in our deluxe balcony room on Enchanted and Regal. The foot of the bed was touching the chair in front of the table. It's that tight. There was no way to walk between the sofa and the table - we had to climb over the bed to get to the balcony. And the sofa bed is a lot narrower - it's the width of the regular bed. -
sofa bed in standard size balcony cabins for 3rd pax?
Itchy&Scratchy replied to sandinmyshoes's topic in Princess Cruises
as a person who has personally sampled the sofa bed on Regal and Enchanted Princesses, I must say - he won't be very comfortable. I am 5'6, just a hair under 200#. Our child was comfortable on it because he is 5'3 and 125# (but he prefers pullman beds). perhaps, if he does get very uncomfortable, the lighter of the two parents could switch with him? Or not. I wouldn't get a forward facing balcony for an Alaska cruise. I'd get a regular side or aft facing one.
