  1. oh, please, lowest fares, my behind. We can only cruise during school breaks, which doesn't afford us low fares. Our November's cruise fare is right up there with the rest of the cruise lines. And if I were to book it now instead of last year, it would have been way more than other cruise lines, and might I add - unjustifiably so.
  2. yeah, but I don't want to get charged for the second entree, period. Not just for the replacement food. That is a very important part of cruising for us.
  3. he orders the same thing in regular restaurants. Tried and true. That's the thing about cruising - we are finally getting him to open up to trying other things (because food is way more exciting on the cruise), but we never had to worry about him not liking something, because we can always fall back on a different entree choice. Not anymore on MSC, though. But after shelling out thousands for a cruise, I am not paying $5 per additional entree. Heck no. That is the real nickel and diming.
  4. you have to book far in advance to get a much better price. For example, I paid $2,300 for our upcoming November Seascape cruise, also a reg balcony on deck 10, for the 3 of us, with drinks and wifi included. I booked a year in advance. Now this same cruise is $2,987 pp WITHOUT the drinks/wifi and $3,657 with the drinks/wifi. save them all to your hard drive and then drag and drop them into your post.
  5. it's not like your fare will be reduced... lol. Wishful thinking.
  6. this sucks. Well, I guess our first MSC cruise will be our last. And to think that I was griping that Carnival was charging for the 3+ entrees. If my kid doesn't like what he's ordered (which has happened before), it's free for him to order something else on other cruise lines. Apparently, not on MSC starting now. We too had something we didn't like once in a while. I guess we'll have to be very choosy on our upcoming cruise. Well, like I said - it will be our last until they rescind this stupid rule.
  7. you can't. But you can stay vigilant, and if you notice a change early enough, you just may be able to get the cabin back. MSC has more threads like this than the other lines: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2955128-involuntary-cabin-change-at-final-payment/
  8. not with MSC. MSC is in a habit of changing passengers' cabins and not even telling them.
  9. do you mean - you cannot specify a particular CABIN? Not class. You first pick a category (inside, balcony, suite, YC) and then you pick experience (Bella, Fantastica, Aurea). And if you pick YC, you then pick the room category.
  10. I don't care for lobster that much, but I cruise to eat and unlimited entrees have been included since we started cruising in 2009. Some days the menu is meh and I don't even want a single entree, and some days I want 3 different ones because I actually want all 3 and I will eat it all. So, I think in the end it all works out to an average of 2 entrees per dinner, but no - I would still get charged $5 on days when I order the 3rd entree, but $5 won't be deducted on the days when I don't order even a single entree.
  11. no limit, but apparently a charge of $5 per additional entree after 2 entrees per person. I hate it.
  12. we used to bring a battery operated night light before, but last year I bought a super cute, adjustable brightness, usb powered night light, and it's a life saver for me. My kid doesn't get up at night, but I do, and I am night blind. After falling down in the cabin bathroom at night last year due to being completely and utterly blind, I refuse to travel without a night light in the bathroom. This one is bright enough for me to see everything and dim enough not to keep anyone else awake. My mom is the same, so I got one for her as well. I
  13. well, my kid does not do kid's club at all and doesn't want to play with other kids, but he has never been bored on a cruise. Not once. And since there is more than one kid going with you, how can they possibly be bored? Mine's an only kid... and he tags along to everything on the cruise with us. His most favorite cruise activity is playing ping pong. We do bring a Nintendo switch with some games on it and when he was younger (he is 12 now) - a tablet full of downloaded movies and cartoons (and games as well). He wouldn't waste a minute of cruise time reading (insert my very sad face, because I love reading and reading on a cruise is a real treat).
  14. Which line and ship are you going to be on? you could also roll up additional towels. If you are driving and have space, a kid cot may be a solution for a 2 yo. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-Kids-Zipper-Cot-55-x-24-x-6-in-Child-Use/1939823261
  15. we are Android people, and we don't travel in Haven/YC/Retreat, etc. 🙂 I simply understand OP's worrying about being on different decks.
  16. OP knows their relatives a lot better than you do. My mom is geographically challenged (she gets lost even within the same deck), while my dad is physically challenged. Having them on a different deck away from us would result in a whole bunch of challenges. We had experienced it firsthand on our NCL cruise in 2018 when they put us on different decks and ends of the ship. We cruise to relax - we don't want our cruise to be an obstacle course.
  17. we've been on many cruises with Princess, RCI and NCL, and none of them ever changed our cabin number. MSC, however, has moved us from a reserved cabin to guaranteed, so I cancelled our cruise with them last time.
  18. h-how is this possible? I live in sunglasses (awful photophobia), and I have at least 10 pairs on any given day. They get scratched, they break, they get so worn out or bent out of shape they get retired, etc. They rarely get lost, unless "lost somewhere in the house" counts.
  19. see, we used to do this when we traveled to the port on the day of the cruise, and as a result I got a stress induced migraine for all of our cruises. Now I say - $200 hotel room is totally worth it so I could fully enjoy the entire 7 day cruise instead of being incapacitated by a migraine for the first 2-3 days of it. Add to that the unpredictable nature of Atlanta traffic, storms and airline cancellations, and we have become total fans of traveling to the port the day before. However, we fly in the afternoon so we don't have to get up with the racoons and I can even finish packing in the morning, and the kiddo is not missing most of the school day. Thank you for your review (I am still reading it, but I had to tell you how much I am enjoying it)! We'll be on the Horizon next year - our first time with Carnival.
  20. all three of us with the kid? I don't think so.
  21. but how are we all to take showers? You have got to put the luggage somewhere, and after the showers the shower stall/bathtub will be wet.
