  1. We are just starting to get our packing organized for our Venture cruise which starts on the 18th and I was wonder If we should take walking sticks/trekking poles. We have the ones that fold down so they fit in our suitcases. But, I was wondering if they are necessary - or even helpful - for the kind of hikes we are likely to take in Greenland. Your thoughts?
  2. Several years ago, we did an Adriatic cruise on Seabourn which started in Venice on October 31 and went to Slovenia, Croatia and Greece. We had absolutely glorious weather. Yes, Venice was rather under water, but it was into see how the place coped with the wooden platforms and it was actually kind of fun. So, perhaps we were just lucky with the weather, but it was wonderful to see places that were not mobbed with tourist crowds.
  3. Wow! It really sounds like they are running out of provisions (or there was some less than stellar planning). I remember one cruise when they actually semi-rationed bacon in the morning. It went from serve yourself in the Colonnade buffet line to having a server dispense one rasher at a time. It didn’t bother me, since I don’t eat bacon, but my husband said that he felt like a glutton asking for a second piece. 🥴 I do wonder about the logistics and whether there have been issues with resupply.
  4. I just spoke to Seabourn to find out about testing requirements for the Sept. 17 cruise. Canada requires vaccination, so the option for unvaccinated travelers to take a test is not possible for cruises into Canada. However, for vaccinated travelers, there may still be a testing requirement since the cruise is in “remote” location. The Seabourn rep told me to check back after September 1 to find out if the 17th is a testing-requires cruise. So, it seems like this is still a work (or policy) in progress.
  5. All I can say is WOW!! Great pix! I can’t believe I have to wait another 31 days to get there… Thank you so much for sharing the photos and news from the ship. I hope they hear you about the music selection. 🥴 Just wondering, have you used the laundry room?
  6. Thanks! You can tell I’m not a mahjong player! 🥴. But, if you’d like to try bridge…
  7. When there were a couple of mahjong tables, I would close off the back part of the card room and use only the front area. I’m surprised the bridge instructor didn’t offer to do that for you. Also, if you find that the playing cards you need don’t have the jokers, just ask the bridge instructor for a fresh deck or two. There were always plenty of fresh decks of cards in the card room cupboards and, for bridge, we just toss out the jokers.
  8. I used to be a bridge instructor on Seabourn. I know that there used to be 4-5 sets of mahjong tiles on board. Some ships had more. Just ask the ACD if you can’t find them. On a related subject, does anyone know what happened to the bridge program on board? I used to regularly have 6-8 tables of duplicate players.
  9. Thank you very, very much! This is exactly the information I was looking for. You just made my packing so much easier! And, your fabulous photos really add to my joys of anticipation. Thank you again!
  10. Thanks again for all your great reporting (and photos) of your trip. If you do find yourself with a bit of extra time, I would love to hear about the food, the demographics of your fellow passengers and the kinds of things you do on sea days. (Our trip from Greenland to Newfoundland has quite a few of those!). Also, I am interested what kind of entertainment is being done. I did read the daily schedule which you posted, but I am curious about your take. Thanks!
  11. Thanks so I hope for the info about the CD, HD and excursion staff. Sounds absolutely fabulous! I am getting so excited about our upcoming Venture cruise….and your descriptions and photos are certainly adding to the excitement! Thanks.
  12. Thanks so much for your updates! Much appreciated. Just wondering…who are the CD and HD? And, have you found the zodiac excursions too tame? Personally, I will not miss TK!
  13. According to the booking information we’ve received, there will be 2 formal nights on our 15-night cruise in September. My husband is bringing a blazer, so (hopefully) that will be sufficient for an expedition cruise.
  14. Yes, I am figuring that they are a) too busy and/or b) without internet to post. I will certainly try to do my bit in September. Though, by then, another report from Venture may be totally old hat. (And, maybe both points a & b will be applicable on my voyage, too). Still, I will keep looking for some current updates…
  15. Hi! I was wondering if there are any CC contributors who are currently on Venture who might fill us in on what the new ship is like. I would love to hear about the staff and the excursions - as well as life on the ship, itself. And, I’m sure there are lots of us who would really appreciate your firsthand knowledge. Hopefully, someone can respond. 🤞🤞
  16. We will be on Venture for the September 17 voyage from Greenland to Newfoundland. I would love to hear about the dining options on the ship, as well as who the CD and HD might be. Also curious about what activities are available on sea days. I hope you have an amazing cruise. I am sure that many of us are looking forward to your reports!
  17. Just wondering if there is any current news on the status of Venture… We are supposed to be on the cruise from Greenland to Newfoundland in mid September. I’m hoping that’s not an inaugural cruise!
