  1. I wouldn’t book it. So many negative factors to consider when comparing against other options.

Shorter cruise, only two Alaskan ports, visits Tracy Arm instead of Glacier Bay, only one scenic cruising day and also RT Seattle… a better option would be one way with Whittier or Seward to combine time in Alaska. Also, the fact that it’s on Carnival instead of one of the cruise lines with more Alaskan experience.

The Carnival option is the exact opposite of what I would want in an Alaskan cruise. Aren’t they also a random midweek departure on Carnival or did they finally move away from that?

Great news!  Fewer low-fare cruises for us to choose from, while you could've avoided booking on them!  Less choices is always better!!!!

I do avoid booking on them and I’m excited about the news. With Carnival reimagining their brand and improving their product, they no longer need those rust buckets in the fleet. With the lower occupancy, now is the best time for them to take advantage of this.

Carnival needs to remain competitive. Their competitors are providing a much better experience at a very reasonable price.

Once they get you onboard, even if you still don't gamble hopefully you'll take those savings and buy souvenirs, excursions, etc.

Or at the minimum, keep the room occupied to allow for the opportunity of automatic gratuities to occur keeping employee morale a bit higher than the potential effects of a reduced income. Cruise ship staterooms are perishable and any revenue opportunity is critical even if it’s just enough to surpass the cost per occupied room during this time. Also, there’s the hope you’ll share pictures on social media and help with the general public’s perception of the industry.

  4. Seeing as it looks like you're asking about Marriott options- we stayed at the Copenhagen Marriott after our cruise and enjoyed it. Incredible location, fantastic club lounge and nice elite recognition.

The AC Hotel looks like a solid property if you don't mind the inconvenience of its location. I personally wouldn't choose to stay at a Moxy if it can be avoided -- it's like a glorified hostel and I'm not a fan of the Front Desk also acting as a bar.

People cancelling means prices should go down and ships should be sailing at reduced capacities.  I'm 100% ok with that right now!

I may be a bit negative towards certain sectors of the industry but not even I want that. Ideally, people should feel comfortable booking, sailing and returning. Carnival should want their capacity as high as possible and as consumers, we shouldn't want the businesses we enjoy to provide rock bottom pricing. Not only would it provide an opportunity to devalue the product, it poses an issue long-term where the market isn't willing to pay the old/higher cruise fares. If that happens, you can expect lower quality food options to be provided and additional cost cutting measures implemented wherever they believe the passengers will accept. This could also lead to reduced labor and lower guest service satisfaction levels. Fewer people will also mean less rooms are occupied which also means fewer opportunities for the crew to receive the automatic gratuities.

For an industry we love and a brand/company many enjoy, this isn't what we want.

A lot of corporations are doing this due to phishing attacks.

That's exactly what the external sender alert is for. The emails being sent from outside the organization aren't being redirected elsewhere. There is a valid reason for external senders to reach out whether it's something related to their food service supplier or any various other vendor.

If they miss the ship, too bad, so sad. There is no penalty for abandoning ship in a foreign country. US laws are null and void outside of the country. The penalty is if they left the ship in a different US city without visiting a distant foreign port.

Or if the country in question had their own set of cabotage laws which are not applicable in this case.

If a ship is docked, then I don't know of a curfew, but in a tender port, there are too many variables.

We didn't have a curfew years ago when docked overnight in Nassau on the Carnival Imagination nor was anyone required to be onboard the ship at night.

Docked vs Tender is likely the variable at play.

You will also get tagged with $$ fees for violating the Passenger Act.

I'm curious. I don't know much about the Passenger Act other than it is was supposed to be the Jones act for passengers (as opposed to freight). I thought its fines were imposed upon the carrier. Also thought it prohibited a foreign vessel directly transporting passengers between two points in the U.S. and I don't see how someone spending the night in Mexico is contrary.

In the case of a one way transit from California to Cabo, there would be no violation of the PVSA.

  10. While we just sailed on the Regal Princess and had an enjoyable time, it doesn't have me running back to book additional cruises. We have another one booked for later this year sailing from Iceland to Greenland that we are looking forward to but the majority of our travel is now focusing on patterns similar to during the suspension of operations.

I get a free Norwegian cruise every year through My Choice. Have yet to use it since I stay on Carnival.

Why are you staying on Carnival? The Norwegian cruises are free. Why not try it?

Perhaps he has limited vacation time and Carnival is his preference? Nothing wrong with that -- the free option is not always the better option based on personal preferences.
