  1. True. You have no control over the flights. For what it’s worth, twice we were flying home from NYC. Both times they booked us on very late flights out of NYC. In or case, we were not happy. It was a quick one hour flight to DC, which leaves every hour, but they put us on a 10PM flight. We were not able to change it, but both times we were able to get on standby when we got to the airport and got home earlier. But there’s no guarantees that you will get a late return. NCL will book the cheapest flight possible.
  2. They will arrange the flights in both directions to and from the city you ask for in both directions. It doesn’t necessarily need to be the same city, but you have to call them to arrange that. I travel often with a friend that lives in a different city. We are able to use the BOGO with each of us traveling from our respective cities, including on a transatlantic. But as others have said, you have no control over the flights. If you fly out of different cities you may leave or arrive at different times and on different airlines. It’s cleaner if your itineraries are the same.
  3. $2500 total or each for an upgrade from an inside to the Haven? If it’s total extra for the two of you for ten nights I say it’s totally worth it. $5000 would require a little thought. As others have said, the perks in the Haven are fantastic, and arguably more important on port days. The escorts on and off the ship and priority tendering are priceless. It’s obviously your call, but for $2500 I would do that in a heartbeat. Its $125 pp/pd. Order extra lobster tails at dinner and it’s paid for itself. 😂
  4. That should not happen. Would you happen to be Platinum or above and already reserved your two specialties? If so, that could be the issue. The online system doesn’t recognize the Platinum vouchers. You should always book the foxed price restaurants first. There won’t be a charge up front for the a la carte restaurants regardless. But if you’ve already made reservations in excess of your FAS meals before you reserve the fixed charge restaurants (Teppanyaki and Moderno), they will make you pay it up front. I made this mistake once and had to call NCL to get it right.
  5. I echo what most others have said. The casino opens at 9. There’s no reason to think this will change. I also sail with CAS and always get the drink package anyway. Even if the casino was open 24/7, I don’t spend my whole trip in the casino. It’s a pain to go there for a drink if you’re not already there. 😂
  6. If there is one booking number with the airline if you are a no-show for the first flight, your return will be cancelled. Being a no show for the return is not an issue, but be very careful if you plan to miss the initial flight.
  7. Agreed. I’m hoping for this too. I am traveling with a friend in December in a 2 BR Haven cabin. This is the first trip where she will be Platinum (I’m Sapphire). Was hoping we’d each get a card, but now doubting that. We’ll see come December. Since we have the Haven restaurant we’re not that concerned the dining, but it would be nice to shake things up a bit. But this also means that we don’t each get the bag of laundry, right? That kind of sucks, although I’m pretty confident they won’t charge us for an extra bag on a 16 night cruise in the Haven.
  8. Same thing happened to me in May. It has something to do with “cash transactions”. The duty free stores opened long before the casino did. I asked the casino manager about it and that was her answer. The duty free stores don’t handle “cash” and could open. Don’t ask me about the details. I still don’t get it. There are also weird rules on alcohol in Italy - or NCL’s interpretation of them or failure to pay the fees required. It’s been the subject of numerous debates here. Greece is just as bad, or even worse. I booked a Sailaway rate for the Italy/Greece ten night trip in May (a B2B with the TA on the Breakaway.). I thought my reasoning was solid - port intensive trip, I got free drinks in the casino when it was open, etc.). But never again. Without a drink package you couldn’t even buy a drink (not even a Coke) while in Greek waters! I made lots of friends with a drink package, 😂 Moral of story - do your research and always get the drink package. 😂. Europe is different than the US.
  9. This is true. On the TA on the Breakaway in April we only got three courses in Cagney’s with the Platinum voucher, Wenwere a bit disappointed that we could not get both an appetizer and a soup or salad. That being said, it was still plenty of food, but I believe the FAS meal includes four courses. The Platinum voucher includes three.
  10. Thanks. I’ve been on the Gem, but not the Sky or similar class ship, so my answer was based on that experience. Is Cagney's only open for breakfast and lunch for suite guests on these ships, is it open to anyone for a cost, or is it not open at all? I think that was the oP’s question.
  11. A month or so ago I had several mysterious coupons show up in my account, including 20% off any European sailing, 10% “FCC” for any sailing and two coupons for Alaska sailings. All had to be used by June 22. I have no idea why I got them. I had no cruises cancelled. We did use the 20% coupon for the new TA on the Epic on December 1. Great deal on a Haven cabin. The others disappeared from my account on Thursday. I echo others. This is hit or miss and sometimes you will never know why it was offered to you. Take advantage if it does show up in your account and there’s a sailing that fits into your schedule, desires and budget.
  12. Cagney is not open for breakfast or lunch. On ships without a full Haven (no restaurant), Cagneys or Moderno is open for Haven guests at no charge. But is not available unless you are in the Haven. At least that’s my understanding.
  13. As others have said, coffeemakers used to be in all balcony and above cabins, but they took them out. You have to explicitly ask for them now. I don’t think you can order it ahead of time, but the few times I’ve asked my steward it was there within a half hour and was kept stocked throughout the trip. The only exception is Haven cabins. Those all have a Nespresso machine. They’re fantastic. But they’re only for the Haven. On my last trip in a balcony I asked the steward if I could get a Nespresso. That was a firm “No.”. I understand that, but didn’t hurt to ask. 😂
  14. Yes, the only way to get them is to buy them onboard. They are transferable and there are sites that hook up buyers and sellers. CC does not allow that here. For future referee, the certificates generally cost $125 each as long as you purchase at least two. Each one gives you $250 toward the cost of a future trip. The normal rules are that you can one or two for each trip. This promotion allows you to use three for a balcony or above cabin on a sailing 120 days out from sailing.
  15. I don’t know how it works if you booked through a Travel agent. You may have to call. But it you booked through NCL you should be able to apply any CNs you have in your account as a payment toward the cruise. I just did it. If you look at “My Account” from the main page you will see how many CNs you have and when they expire. When you go to make a payment just plug in $250 and choose that you’re using a CN for it. Your CNs will show there. Just check one and hit submit. Easy peasy.
  16. I can confirm it applies to existing reservations. I was just able to make a payment online for my December trip using a CN. I had already applied two when the trip was booked. 375 off! I’ll take it. 😃
  17. They do not charge you extra. But, at a minimum, gratuities are expected to be given to the butler and concierge. They do not receive anything from the DSC.
  18. As others have stated, it’s written nowhere what the official rules are for trips longer than seven days. That being said, I’ve always just asked the room steward for another bag if I need it and just write “Platinum” on the slip if we had used our coupons. I’ve never been charged.
  19. Yikes. I hope our weather is better. We leave from Rome and end in Port Canaveral. Hopefully the weather will be better with the more Southern route.
  20. We did our first TA on the Breakaway in April. Absolutely loved it! In fact we loved it so much we booked the new Epic TA in December. It really depends on what you want in a cruise. We love sea days. And being in the Haven definitely helped. I can spend my life being pampered. 😂. We got very lucky with the weather. We only had one rough night leaving Bermuda. Other than that, weather was perfect. The ports were fantastic - especially Portugal and Spain. The sea days were relaxing. Lots of deck time, lots of food and drink and more than a few hands of Blackjack. 😂. But I can see how all those sea days are not for everyone. We also said repeatedly that we wanted to do the reverse. Gain an hour a day instead of losing it and have the restful part of the trip at the end (the ports are great, but exhausting. Long days with lots of walking.). Hence we booked the Epic when the trio popped up and the price was right. We’ll see how it goes. As I said, the weather was great on our April trip. It may not be so good in December, but we’ll see. And there’s no guarantee for the spring crossings either. The spa is always an option. We had booked it on the April trip, but honestly only used it once or twice because the weather was so good. Still debating that for the December trip.
  21. No, it’s not a dividend. It’s better than a dividend. It’s tax free and can be claimed repeatedly. I’ve held the stock for years, and on paper am way underwater. But the stock has almost paid for itself with the OBC.
  22. The smoked Old Fashioneds in the Haven bar are almost worth the cost of admission! This is on the Joy in September. He made me a different concoction every night. Heavenly. 😃❤️ IMG_0097.MOV
