Royal up for Solos and General Royal up questions
rockmom replied to latebuyer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
which ship are you sailing on? If you're on Quantum or Ovation, so many of the balcony rooms on that class of ship are obstructed. Many people who go with a guarantee or a Royal Up has come back and posted that they regretted it because their view was of the side of a big lifeboat. (You can see over them, but you have to be standing, not sitting, on the balcony. ) -
Royal up for Solos and General Royal up questions
rockmom replied to latebuyer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Yes, but May was 11 months ago and most ships were not a capacity quite yet and ship sell-outs were not as common as they are now. I won Royal Up bids last March, June and September last year. I didn't bid on my other 2 sailings. It also depends on the category. I see more people getting lucky and moving from interior to oceanview or oceanview to balcony. Not nearly as many posts about people scoring full suite class since there are far fewer of those rooms to begin with. -

stick to the cabin you already booked. -
Royal up for Solos and General Royal up questions
rockmom replied to latebuyer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
As I said before, with ships sailing totally full, there are much fewer 'wins'. And the reason you might not even find out until you board, is that someone might miss the ship, cancel day of sailing, etc and that would open up than one room. -

doesn't seem to make any difference of when you bid. With ships sailing full now, there are less reports of people 'winning' a Royal Up bid. You may not even find out you won until you are actually on the ship. -

other than continental breakfast, there is a fee of $7.95 + 18% per order. So just under $10. -
May 12th Mariner of the seas missing from website
rockmom replied to Pchamb3's topic in Royal Caribbean International
@Pchamb3, you should be able to check in for your cruise now. Checkin opens 45 days before sailing--and that's when you choose your arrival time for the port. The longer you wait, the less options you'll have to choose from. Documents don't show up until 30 days out, so you're getting close. Use the website right now to check in and get an arrival time (some people call it boarding time, but it's really the time you can arrive at the port before getting on the ship). Make sure you check in EVERYONE in your party so you can all get the same arrival time. -
if you go into the app under dining, it will have the menu with prices. For Navigator, mine is showing $12.99 +18% for the various burgers. No breakfast menu on Explorer. As Firefly said, only on Oasis class ships

View photos after sailing?
rockmom replied to Candleonwater's topic in Royal Caribbean International
unfortunately no, they delete them at the end of the sailing. -
just book it for yourself, don't add anyone else. Don't click on any other names, just yours.

I miss the Iggy Pop commercials. I've sailed Enchantment twice, it was my first ship, before she was 'stretched'. I don't think I could handle a TA on her. I'd pick Anthem not only for more things to do, but for the solarium and indoor pool alone.

Black Friday specials turnaround time
rockmom replied to kcmo74's topic in Royal Caribbean International
There can be good deals, but there are years when it's not so great. One thing you need to watch out for since your sailing is so close to Black Friday, is that things like excursions and specialty dining (both single and packages) can sell out. When it comes to Black Friday, the one thing that I've noticed the last several years is that the soda and refreshment, and bottle waters, are a pretty decent deal, but the DBP with alcohol didn't drop to anything other than what some previous sale prices had been over the months leading up to Black Friday. -
Do you purchase the Internet package?
rockmom replied to Racer70's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I/we always get it. If buying for more than one person, we go for the one person/multi-device package because it saves a bit. Even when there are 4 of us in 2 different rooms, it's easy to share the 4 device package. -
The way I read that is that you can't use the discounted single supplement during blackout dates. But if someone is essentially paying for 2 people, why wouldn't they be able to do that?

I got the email on March 14th for my December sailing. Still showing in my Cruise Planner as 'booked'. No refund on my card yet, no OBC yet either. I also got the email for the Aquaventure 'error' for my October sailing. Also still showing as 'booked' in my planner, no OBC, no refund yet.
-
and they cannot be used onboard. Need to be used to book and apply to a new cruise. Not OBC.
-
Make sure they spend it BEFORE they sail. I see a lot of posts where people are very upset that they took their gift certificates onboard and were told they were unusable. So they'll need to call and have the gift certificate turned into onboard credit well before sailing.

That's terrible that the staff made you feel that way. I've done UDP when sailing by myself and never got that feeling. In fact, the opposite. I went back to Jamie's for the second time in my sailing and the waiter I had the first night came up and asked if he could seat me in his section again. Said I had made him laugh a lot the first night I ate there. I also had a really fun waiter in Chops when sailing alone. Now maybe because I travel a lot for business, I'm used to dining alone and am more comfortable with it. Or maybe because years ago I worked in the restaurant business and waited on quite a few tables myself and find it easy to strike up conversation with the waitstaff.

Time for flight home from Fort Lauderdale
rockmom replied to OCVTSGIRL's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Many airports have baggage drop off outside the main doors. You get out of your taxi, go to the 'Skycap' stand for YOUR airline, show your boarding pass and they check your bags before you even enter the building. Not all airlines have this, and those that do, don't always have them set up. But if they are out there and checking bags, it's a huge timesaver. But you definitely need to have some cash tips, and some airlines charge a small fee too. They cannot help you if you have any ticketing issues or other problems. They are strictly there to take checked bags. -
Miami Beach is the city next to Miami itself. The party crowds gather there. That's why the article calls it out, and not the City of Miami itself. Are they close? Yes, but worlds apart when it comes to nightlife. In the area of the port, you don't get an actual 'beach' where people come to play in the water, drink, and cause mayhem.
-
Are you staying in Miami Beach/South Beach? That's where it's crazy--college spring break madness. Same thing happened last year with all the drunken partying, fights, etc. If you're staying by the airport or cruise port, you should be just fine.

Quantum class--the tiered pools, the views.

Wonder of the Seas one entree rule ?
rockmom replied to firts's topic in Royal Caribbean International
The meals ARE complimentary, what's the issue? That you can't have multiple entrees served to you at once? You can have more than one, but they will bring them one at a time. But they are complimentary. Other cruise lines are moving to charge for addional entrees beyond two, so far Royal hasn't done that. But at what 'off the menu' land restaurant where you are given a menu, and are served by waitstaff, not a 'all-you-can-eat-glutton-fest', are you able to keep ordering entree after entree? Pretty much nowhere. There is almost always a limit to 'complimentary', no matter what the business is providing.
