  1. we were recently on the b2b dawn . my friend who travels with us is 78 and always gets the 2nd bedroom. her share of the cruise is much cheaper than if she booked a cabin on her own, and the 3 of us get all the perks that come with a suite. she has no problems with the room also, it gives you the luxury of a 2nd bathroom and shower. imho, GO FOR IT!!!
  2. while the owners suite is probably much more opulent, if youre sharing a cabin with another couple, the 2 bedroom is a no brainer. even if the other couple were my sister and her husband, who wants to share a bathroom with 2 other people. one of the main features is the 2nd bedroom and bath. we usually travel witha close friend and always book the2 bedroom suite. besides which, i believe the escape is a much nicer ship
  3. other than that, feel free to rant on and on .......
  4. imho! you are neither the good guy or the bad guy!. 1st off, the fact that your girlfriend cant go with you on the cruise is certainly no reason to break up. amongst other reasons previously expressed, maybe she was uncomfortable with the cabin sleeping arrangements. she does have a young child, and im sure you were not the one planning to sleep on the sofa. youre the good guy for asking her but should not overreact when she said no on the other hand (and im not trying to be judgmental) why dont you try dating someone closer to your own age. They'd probably have children old enough were school isnt an issue, and maybe more inclined to travel with you. give the woman break it's only been 4 1/2 months into your relationship
  5. just print your tags off with a sturdier stock paper, wait until youre ready to go to the port, and i agree, borrow a stapler from the hotel, or bring along a small one for personal use.
  6. last year we took the b2b from venice (trieste) since venice proper, is an amazing and beautiful city, we flew in a few days early. Prior to leaving the states, we arranged for a shuttle to pick us up at our hotel in venice (ac marriott) and drive us to trieste. We spent the day prior to embarkation, at the doubletree. they had an ncl desk in the lobby. we signed up, the shuttle bus arrived promptly at 10, and drove us directly to the port, no problems. why would i ever consider taking the train, if i have to schlep my luggage aboard? there were 3 of us and it was a 14 day b2b. while i am certainly not criticizing anyone else's plans, there are ways to make your journey much smoother than poor catbro. btw, hope you have fully recovered.
  7. mcarab1. just chiming in again. to simplify, pick a port, and google any question that comes to mind. ie what to do in (fill in the port). if youre planning in fly in early, or stay a few days after cruise, again google for hotels. you can type in a major chain, use a hotel booking website. as we usually fly in a few days early if leaving from a port outside the u.s. i google shuttle services. believe me, it works, and you dont need to be a technological wizard to figure it out. as the cruise gets closer, (and we have over a year +) i'd be more than happy to help you out. last year we stayed atr a marriott before and after our cruise from athens, next year we're planning on staying over in jerusalem for a few extra days. im planning on checking google next summer, to see if there are any 1 day tours to jordon (petra). as the date grows closer, and you think i can be of any help (especially if you tell me what specifically youre interested in, i'll give you my email address and we can go from there. if im over reaching, i apologize up front
  8. turtles06. hey! was this comment even necessary? they were just saying thanks, for clarifying the port of disembarkation. what are the chances of actually meeting each other on the ship, unless cabin information is exchanged? any way thank you for pointing out your information! im sure i wont be the only one with champagne and/or heineken. by the way, are you on this cruise?
  9. my wife says im extra anal when it comes to booking cruises, hotels and airfare. while we're also excited to be able to see egypt, im also planning on spending a few extra days in jerusalem, and seeing if there are any tours to petra in jordan. our mutual cruise leaves athens on oct 27th. if you have the time and inclination, check out the cruise 10 days prior, from venice to athens. if youve never been to venice, i think its a must see. this leg of the b2b also offers some amazing ports. we love santorini, mykonos and dubruvnik. if you end up looking for me, im the one with a glass of champagne in one hand and an ice cold heineken in the other. we'll probably get off the ship in athens, grab a cab to the acropolis for a few hrs, then head on back for round 2. btw, im prejudiced) but i think you made the right choice. i always pick ncl because in my opinion. it gives you the best "bang for your buck"
  10. when you get to your cabin, there should be a card with 4 tabs. one of the tabs indicate a free dinner and bottle of wine. this is for either le bistro or cagney's. im not sure if this includes all latitude levels, but if you log on to your site, and check latitude benefits, it will show you .it also indicates a free bag of laundry (depending on latitude status) if you happen to do a back to back, the card will be issued on both, and you can end up with an additional bottle. also, it is not necessary to open the bottle at your dinner. you can take it back to your cabin and enjoy it later on. we usually just wrap them up and take them home. hope this clarifies for you.
  11. in the past, i would have said Cagney's, no question. teppanyaki has been a disappointment the last few times we went there, especially since they stopped filet and added new york ( i think you can get the new york steak daily at either of the mdr's. for what it's worth, go to le bistro instead of either of the other 2. i dont think you will be disappointed, and you get a free bottle of wine
  12. we live in los angeles. british airways has a some great non stop flights to lhr. recently (july 25th) we flew into heathrow. arrived 10:00am on the 26th. ship sailed on the 27th. we booked a hotel close by, spent the day in london, saw a play at west end. Prior to leaving home, we booked a shuttle service to drive us directly to southampton. he was waiting at our hotel entrance at the requested time (9:30), and all went off without a hitch. we did the same in 2022, but spent a few more days in london prior to sailing by the way, we got a great fare going business class to london and premium economy flying back home
  13. i stand corrected. please disregard the last sentence in my prior post
  14. we got off the dawn on aug 15th after b2b 19 days from southampton to copenhagen, copenhagen to stockholm. you have nothing to worry about, it's a fine ship. maybe without the bells and whistles of the newer, bigger ships, but personally i sail for the itinerary and the price, We were in the 2 bedroom suite, and all was fine. the entire staff couldnt have been any nicer or more accommodating.to our needs. our steward (jonah) was amazing, the butler (alan) was top notch. one night in the mdr, they had a greek salad that was great. the next night i asked this lovely lady (elizabeth) if they could make me another one, and the few times we went back to the mdr (remember this was a 19 at cruise) she made us a greek salad. so, as they say in the old country "not to worry", and remember any vacation is what you make it, regardless of land or sea.
  15. i dont want to interfere, but we've been on the dawn a few times (just got off a b2b on her), but maybe youre confusing the ships again. Dawn doesnt have a "sunset veranda cabin". On the dawn, some 2 bedroom suites get named after precious gems, but thats the extent of it. what we usually do at most ports is hire a taxi. collectively, they seen to charge much less than a shore excursion. for the exception, im planning to take the excursions offered for alexandria and port said. my bucket list has always included the pyramids, and the sphinx. also, i dont think the "2" digit in the 3rd spot appears on any ncl cabin ( i could be wrong,, however)
  16. hey, mcarab1, better check the itinerary. we're on the b2k venice to athens, athens to (and here's where you better check), the final port for this cruise is tel aviv, not istanbul
  17. imho, (and ive sailed on the epic twice) it's features (good or bad) are about the same as any other ship in the ncl fleet other than the newer ones. its all a matter of perspective, and we've sailed on almost all of the ncl fleet (again, except the newer ones i would have no qualms about sailing on her again,
  18. i have for many years, until he was to old to attend. this was all the way thru to the entourage program and started enrolling him when he was 11. my grandson had a great time, made friends with people he still has contact with (he's 24) and its a great way for an 8 year old to enjoy the cruise. it's the very 1st thing we did after getting settled on board.
  19. that's cause youre such a likable old cuss. i usually get our tags in the mail, and dont affix them until im at the port. also, i suggest if youre going to print them off your computer, use hard stock paper, and bring along a small stapler. imho, this prevents them from being torn off while in transit
  20. mcaraba1. to each his own (i guess) but how can you not be interested in the Egyptian ports? seeing the great pyramids and the sphinx as well as cruising down the Nile has always been on my bucket list. I don't understand how someone can go to Jerusalem and forego Egypt when they're so close. personally, I think you're doing yourself a major disservice, but again, that's just MHO regardless, which ever cruise you finally choose, have a great time, and Bon Voyage!
  21. hey bro, where you been? i havent posted much lately, as a lot of questions are asking about current upgrades. in any event, in the past, if a sticker was needed, ncl usually put it on the back of your passport. good to have you back.
  22. we were on the dawn it was on their mdr menu also. personally, i figure if a i want a steak at from cagney's, i'll go there instead
  23. we're booked on the b2b dawn. trieste to athens, athens to tel aviv. each leg is 10 days next oct 2024 the getaway has always been one of my favorite ships, but due to the itineraries on the dawn i chose her. by the way, the ruins at ephesus are amazing. dawn disembarks in tel aviv,, but we intend to spend a few days in jerusalem. also trying to arrange any type of bus tour into jordan so we can possibly see petra. also flying into venice a few days prior to sailing
  24. got off the dawn b2b last week. on both legs, the station was stardust theater, and we just walked past. gave the attendant the key card to swipe and we were done!
  25. after 13 years and 25 ncl cruises, and almost all of their fleet, im very, very satisfied with ncl and the product they offer. i think ncl gives you the best bang for your buck, pricewise and itinerary choices. just got off b2b 19 days on the dawn
