  1. please try booking.com, or hotels.com. when you get to their website ,merely fill in the city and your planned dates of stay. i always use either site to plan a pre or post cruise. you will also find that although they require a credit card #, your account will NOT be charged, and you have 24-48 hrs before your arrival date to cancel, with no penalty. Works for me every time, and they also give me an idea of what properties are available in any given city also, bonvoy is the site for marriott properties. you can also google the names of the usual chain hotels (ie hyatt, hilton, marriot, sheraton, or ihg. same thing, fill in the city and your potential dates, and you will find a plethora of choices, room types and prices. good luck! it's really simple to do, and i assure you I am technologically challenged. so if i can figure it out, im sure anyone else can also
  2. im sorry, i also have to add that the op asks if the ncl cc community thought that the diamond upgrade was a success. since the best upgrade one can get is from a balcony to a club, the upgrade is a success if that's what you want. if you want to book a suite/haven, the upgrade is of no use or benefit and will go unused! that being said, your question (unfortunately) has nothing to do with the topic. Sorry!!
  3. hey rscales2. even if you got the extra point, except for the freebie cruise, your perks are probably the same as all diamond. if you're currently booked, go and enjoy and your next cruise will be under ambassador. in the alternative, follow the advice of other posters, book a short inexpensive cruise, with possibly only an indoor or ov cabin to make up the difference. Where would ncl need to draw the line as to assigning extra points? You're 1 away, if i was 5 away should i ask, 10 away, and what about other levels, if youre only 1 point away from say gold to platinum should you ask. i certainly do not and would not begrudge you the extra point nor would i begrudge you the status, but as traveling man so succinctly put it, ncl is totally inflexible when it comes to adding point prior to the end of a cruise.
  4. i always bring my machine with me, and pack an extension cord. ive also had the cabin steward bring one with no problems. the last ruise, he even asked if i needed the distilled water and offered to bring it. dont worry, there is no problem, and there is usually a plug somewhere close by to the bed. also just to be safe, bring along a european adapter
  5. at 75, i admit i'm still technologically challenged! I use my phone for pictures and phone calls ( what else could a phone be designed for)? lol for me its much, much easier to check in on my computer. its easier to read the screen, and when it comes to the picture, i have my 24 year old grandson take care of that for me.
  6. schmoopie! your happy ending deserves 5 stars. enjoy the cruise, your time with your friends, and i apologize for being a naysayer. BTW, if we had the time, i would surprise you and join you on this cruise. i'm actually a lot of fun when i'm not being a grumpy old man
  7. either do so, or just pay the price on the menu at whichever specialty restaurant you choose
  8. it's probably dropping, because it hit over $20 per share, and people are taking their profits. i was fortunate enough to buy 100 shares at $7.00 right after all cruise lines stopped sailing. i intend to hold on to it forever. and schmoopie, did you have over $12,000 to buy 1000 shares?
  9. we did a b2bthis past july/ aug. 10 days from southampton to copenhagen, 9 days copenhagen to stockholm. my wife and my friend got of to go shopping in copenhagen, i stayed on board (in my same cabin) and vegged out. You just need to go down to guest services and get a new key card. we were on the dawn, so i can only speak about that ship
  10. well, i'll be 76 and my wife 75 when we sail in april and retired, so 17 days isnt a burden. yes, we're booked into the sheraton grand rio prior to sailing, and i'll probably book the sheraton lisbon when is arrive. we try to stay in embarkation/disembarkation cities whenever we cruise. and i am a snarky old dude and getting snarkier (is that even a word) day by day. if you have 14 days available, we're looking at a 14 day cruise round trip from miami to miami jan 3rd to 17th 2025 on the pearl. prices are just ok, but they go to islands i love, barbados, st lucia, grenada, st maarten, antigua etc. . st lucia has always been on my bucker list. maybe this cruise will interest you. if so, the 1st drink is on me.
  11. hey, to the young folks, more power to you. im going to be 76, my wife is going to be 75, and i don't want to even think that far ahead. especially 2026-2027. although hopefully i can still be cruising by then
  12. hey cruiseny. i usually agree with your position, and as i recall you are a travel agent. if youre not picky as to time, place etc, it will work for you. my wife and i are picky, and we've been spoiled. i try and book a suite whenever possible, because we like the idea of a butler, and i dont want to miss out on a cabin i really want. so i try and book as early as possible. i had a middle east booked ago for october that ended in tel aviv. unfortunately, i had to cancel. right now we're booked on the trans atlantic rio to lisbon. we got a great deal (or so i believe ) on a 2 bedroom suite. 17 day cruise, the suite was 5600, less my military discount, less my wife's casino at sea discount, and less $500 cruise certificate i had forgotten about. im also planning on booking the 14 day carribbean round trip from miami , jan 2025. by the way, if i can be presumptuous, can you tell me the simplest way to get a brazillian passport? if it doesnt violate cc rules
  13. your teenage girls are doing themselves a massive disservice by not signing up for the Entourage! our grandson has cruised with us many times (he's now 24) from the time he was 13 to 18 we always signed him up for this. he met a bunch of nice kids, they had a ball, and most of the cruise, unless we were taking an excursion, he was hanging out with his new friends and we hardly ever saw him. he still keeps in contact with some of them 6-7 years later. tell them to try it for a few days. other wise, there is very little to do for teens unless they want to spend all their time with you.
  14. well, if the cruise isnt departing from your home city ,you'd need to book a flight anyway, if you're flying from any city in the u.s. to europe, believe me the upgrade to premium economy or higher is well worth the price .Those 10 + .hour flights can be murder. when traveling to a foreign country, who wouldnt want to stay for a few days before or after. imagine leaving from rome, or southampton, and not seeing rome or london. we've stayed in venice, trieste, athens, and book hotels in most of the cities that are embarkation and disembarkation points. in april we're staying in rio pre and lisbon post cruise. i dont call it creep, i call it part of our vacation. it's like the old commercial "try it! you'll like it" we're not interested in either the "vibe" or the spa, instead of taking most of the shore excursions, we hire a cab. they're usually flocked outside the pier, they'll take you wherever you want to go (we usually show them the ship shore excursions, and they almost always can do it for 1/2 price.) yeah, it kicks up the total price, but for me it's a great way to see the world. finally, before booking, wouldnt you look at all the options, choices, and costs prior to booking a cruise, then decide if you want to spend the money. For the budget minded (and im not knocking them at all) you can book an inside cabin, waive the liquor option. That alone will take off about $500 from the price, fly economy, and try and book a flight that arrives early on the day of departure, and leaves after noon and the last day of the cruise. There are a great many ways to save money, if you're looking for a bargain. that being said, however, most posters, and cruise lines will advise you to come into the port a day or two early, in case there's a problem with your flight. so a night in a hotel is really a must for your own benefit.
  15. i have absolutely no problem departing from one european port and disembarking from an other. we live in los angeles, fly into heathrow, (love London) so spend a few days there. Prior to leaving we book a shuttle service to take us from london hotel directly to the pier in southampton, we usuaallyalso stay inthe disembarkation city for a few days, get a cab when we get off the ship and have him take us to a pre-booked hotel. Piece of cake, and you get to see other countries. we've done southampton to copenhagen, a 19 day b2b souhampton to copenhagen, copenhagen to stockholm. athens to rome and in april we're doing rio to lisbon. have to fly to all points . and id love to book a cruise to iceland, regardless of where to cruise ends up.
  16. schmoopie17. at this point i am absolutely certain that the entire ncl forum cc community is letting out a long, sustained collective groan
  17. couldnt be that much fun, the ship sank, and jack drowned . while i always try and book a suite if affordable, or a club balcony. ( i need a balcony to make me happy) ,ive posted many times before, as long as im on a cruise ship going to exotic locations, im happy as a pig (in whatever makes a pig being happy in). But chief jrkmate, i wont be satisfied until we meet up and have a scotch or two (or more)
  18. 1st and probably most important is how old is the baby. i believe ( icould be mistaken) that children under the age of 6 months are not allowed on board, and i dont believe that ncl offers any type of diapers. i apologize up front if this info is wrong.but i suggest you contact ncl asap
  19. we were in a 2 bedroom suite on the epic about 5-6 yeas ago. my grandson and his friend were in the smaller of the 2 bedrooms, as i recall there was a bunk bed that came down from the wall. hope this helps u
  20. i hear you loud and clear, it's just i would suffer extreme guilt if my friends couldnt join me in some venues. i know it's silly, but that doesnt take away the guilt if they booked to surprise me and we couldnt do some things together. i couldnt fully enjoy my eggs benedict, avocado toast and my glass of champagne, if i knew my friends were in a long, long looongg line at the buffet (LOL)
  21. book a suite, you get 2 points or more per night. the past summer we were on a b2b 2 bedroom suite for 19 days.when i got home, my latitude points showed i got 5 points per night, (total 95) and kicked we up from sapphire to diamond. Boy! was i surprised.
  22. sailing 12 away. it appears your post (while very informative) compares apples and oranges. your last trip with your entire zip code as traveling companions were all invited to cruise with you (from the way i interpret your post) They didnt magically appear as uninvited guests. For the past few years, we have been cruising with a friend i've known for over 20years. we book a 2 bedroom suite, which not only lowers the price per person, but gives her the perks that come with. we often take different excursions, and sometimes she just goes and vegges out at the pool, or she'll go to a show or a lounge with my wife, so i can go back to our cabin and curl up with my kindle. I am well aware that anyone traveling with us is also on vacation, and specifically, it's their vacation. I dont expect 24 togetherness. Sometimes, even on excursions she wanders off by herself. That's all well and good, it's her vacation. in the original post, after turning down the invite, they decided to surprise the other couple. I, like you, love traveling with others, (the more the merrier) But if youre in suite and want breakfast in moderno, or lunch at cagneys, if the others havent booked a suite, they cant join you for the duration. Of course you can choose to take meals together at other venues, but you are the one giving up the perk. For a cruise 14 days or longer, i dont think anyone would give up more than a few meals. we eat in the buffet, or MDR , but most of the time we use the perks offered. This even gets more intensified if you are booked into a "haven" Youre paying a luxury price for a luxury experience, your own dedicated restaurant, pool, lounge area and bar. youre friend will have no access to any of these. Plus in a suite category, you get priority boarding, tenders, disembarkation, etc. im am definitely NOT against traveling with friends of family. i do it often and enjoy the process. It's just surprise friends may not get the same goodies as you.
  23. in that case schmoopie, have a terrific time, hope it works out well and a fond "Bon Voyage" from your friendly, neighborhood complawyer
  24. for the past couple of years, i have been fortunate enough to be able to book a suite, so the luggage tags are sent to me in the mail that being said, (since we usually try and fly in a few days early) I dont put them on our luggage until we are in the hotel lobby, waiting for our transportation to the pier, or actually at the pier prior to giving them to a porter. in years past, when we didnt get them by mail, they could be printed out along with the cruise documents. To be safe, i printed them on higher stock paper, put a small stapler in our bag, and attached them at the hotel, before leaving for the port
  25. ncl will return whatever amount you have paid to date, as long as you cancel before prior payment is due. In the past, I've canceled, rebooked, changed cabins, changed people in the cabin, removed names of people traveling if they flaked on me. As long as it's before final payment date, there are no cancelation penalties. The only drawback is final payment MUST be paid 120 days before sailing. Unfortunately, a lot can happen in 120 days
