  1. not to worry, ncl so called "sales" will go on and on an on.... in some form or another. in the end, no matter how the offers are worded, bottom line is generally the ultimate price wont change. nor will the nature of the offer. btw, after a number of cruises on ncl, this time i opted not to take the beverage package. surprise surprise! it knocked over $700 off the price of the cruise, i got a great price on the 2 bedroom suite, and i found that with the drink package, i tend to drink more daily then i would otherwise, and my wife doesnt drink much at all. while i concede in essence, it's a great promotion, it's really something i can do without. the $50 off a shore excursion, is better than a stick in the eye, but when the excursion itself, is over $300 each, paying $550 instead of $600 or more doent seem to be that great of a deal. i dont use wi-fi (i'm on vacation) so that's really of no benefit, although my wife upgrades hers the minute we get on the ship. to me the really good offer is the airfare. that being said, however, i prefer to book air and hotels on my own. this way i can pick and choose.
  2. hey tonyb99, you need to get over it. being on a cruise ship and not wanting to sit at a table with strangers (some of which you may have absolutely nothing in common with) is not a harbinger of the decline of civilization. why would dining preferences be any different on a cruise ship then on any major hotel. surely, upon entering the dining room, the maitre'd or host/hostess wouldnt ask if you want to sit at a group table unless youre there with a specific group (company outing etc) besides, arent you being a little presumptuous? assuming that people at another table would want to engage with you? if you note, going back to the original post, most people would prefer NOT! to share a table. i would certainly consider sharing a table with chiefjrkmate, or cruiseny, they seem like great folks, and chiefjrk mate's sense of humor is to die for
  3. if you really feel compelled to do so, by all means, start packing. Realistically, however, there is no real reason to do so. i understand your excitement, but personally, regardless of the length of the cruise, and how many days pre and post we expect to stay in the departure and arrival cities, we never pack more than a day or 2 prior to leaving home, and never, ever put the luggage tags on until we get to the pier
  4. i understand, that any time there is an overnight stay, you are free to book a land hotel. just make sure you get back to the ship in plenty of time
  5. itinerary, every time, wins hands down. we've been on the jade at least 3 Xs. i dont know about the bliss (which by the way is a beautiful ship) but on most other ncl ships that have both haven and suites (not club balcony suites) the rooms are almost identical, you still get the butler and concierge services, clean up twice day, breakfast and lunch at moderno and cagneys, you just dont get access to the haven lounge and pool area. also the suites are a lit less $$$$
  6. if your kids are young, you probably wouldnt let them carry the key card. consequently it doesnt matter what door they try to open, they couldnt even open your room, so that's a moot point. by the way, (and im not trying to knock you in the slightest) i can understand trying the wrong room, but i cant imagine getting off on the wrong deck. the elevator tells you which deck you're on. finally, a door is a door is a door. how can you think a cabin door is an eyesore. even in land based hotels, most doors are identical. what pray tell dear lady do you expect them to look like. would you prefer that every door to every cabin be different. by the way, if you need something to identify your room, dont ever go to Cesars Palace in Vegas. if youve had one to many, you'll never find your room while i dont care either way if someone decorates their cabin door or not, dont you think if everyone had the same feelings as you, that having multiple door decorations on a multitude of cabin doors would create a bigger eyesore if your children are old enough to read and understand numbers, all they need to do is look at the cabin number
  7. we bought 100 shares t $7.00 just after all cruises were cancelled. as long as ncl doesnt take completely, im good!
  8. trieste in and of itself is beautiful. last year we flew into venice for a few days (love venice) booked the muranp, burano tour, got off at st marks square, had a cappucino, took a gondola ride. prior to leaving home, we booked a shuttle service to take us from venice to trieste, stayedone night, just nadred around, grabbed something to eat, and the next morning we were on a bus to the cruise port. if we didnt love venice so much, i would just fly into trieste or a few day. its about an hr + from venice to trieste, so i would be leary of taking a tender all the way rom trieste to venice
  9. hey bread and butter. sorry, but i guess my idea of "fun thing to do" seems to differ substantially from yours. what exactly do you find fun about sticking a magnet outside the cabin door. ive been on many ncl cruises and see door decorations many times. personally i have no feelings about it pro or con, and frankly scarlett (in these case bread and butter) i dont give a d**n. do you decorate the door if youre staying in a land based hotel? i was merely pointing out that it's against ncl policy to do so, re-read my post, then i strongly suggest YOU GET OVER IT!!!!!
  10. ok, so i concede i misunderstood the post. i guess the joy is unique it the way it offers its cabin selection. we've booked suites and haven suites (mostly 2 bedroom) and they all came with the amenities listed. on ships that offer both haven and suites, the perks are the same, but you dont get access to the haven section like the pool area and the haven bar and restaurants. for the difference in price, i book the suite, and forego the designated pool and bar
  11. huh? most 2 bedrooms include 24 hr on call butler service, cabin cleaning twice a day, breakfast and lunch at moderno and cagneys. usually the suites are the 1st ones to be cleaned and readied for the passengers. once you are past the security checkpoint, you are taken to a specially designated area, and in about 10-15 minutes you (at least this has been our experience) are taken to cagney's for a quiet. leisurely lunch, and in about an hr or so, your cabin is ready. maybe i missed something, but what ship were you on? there is an entire world of difference between even the "club balcony" suites, and a suite, be it haven or just a suite. if you didnt notice anything different, either i have completely misunderstood your post, or you missed something. by the way, club balcony 'suites' are simply renamed mini suites and offer only a few of the amenities available if you book a suite.
  12. some of the posters have cruises booked for late in 2024 (as do i) the disembarkation point was tel aviv next nov 6th. i was sincerely hoping that all hostilities would be over long before my sailing date. im sure absolutely no one wants to go there currently while a war is going on, so im sure there was really no need for your question.
  13. in 25 cruises with ncl, (although we do not do it often) i have never once been told either in a specialty restaurant or regular restaurant that we cannot take food back to the cabin. same goes for alcohol. we sometimes go up to the bar, order a drink (cold heineken) and take it back to our cabin, where i can sit on my balcony, and enjoy an ice cold one while watching the world go by. most of the time the server is more than happy to wrap it up for us. it may be different in/on ncl, but it my world, it's called a "doggy bag" i was surprised reading the original post as i never found this to be an issue. and yes smitheroo, plates of uneaten food, dirty plates and glassware outside someone's cabin door are indeed gross and disgusting!
  14. hey, smitheroo. please dont ever, ever put your cabin number on your key card. (hopefully you were only joking about that) if not, and i dont even know you and we'll probably never meet, but i would personally send you magnets, door decorations or any other type of identifiable items, so you can find your cabin, and keep you safe. if you lose or misplace your card, anyone finding it, now has access to your cabin. of course, you can always leave a trail of bread crumbs (lol)
  15. although against ncl rules, there are always tons (ok slight exaggeration) of cabins with decorations on the doors. what i dont understand is why you simply cant remember your cabin number. write it down on a slip of paper and keep it in your pocket. personally, (and this is in no way any type of condemnation) i hope i never get that drunk where i need a magnet to identify my cabin. what would you do if someone from ncl came by and removed it from the door? Spend the night in a life boat? by the way, if after only a couple of drinks youre in such bad shape you seriously cannot locate your cabin, i strongly suggest you have a couple of cups of strong coffee before heading back
  16. thanks for the info. now disappointment will haunt all my dreams. egypt was on my bucket list
  17. is it for the entire year of 2024? we're booked for oct 27th thru nov 6th of next year. i wanted to spend a few days in jerusalem after the cruise, and really wanted to 2 ports in egypt.
  18. im truly sorry but::::: nice pictures, heartwarming story, but is/was there a point/need for this post?
  19. read schmoopies original post. it indicated a cruise to no where, man, so i commented on not complaining about a cruise to nowhere, man as opposed to sittin on the dock of they bay. apparently you missed the humor and sarcasm
  20. you can always cancel your upgrade bid before it gets accepted.
  21. been to cozumel a few times, always went to see the ruins at tulum. for my money, it's a must see, but only if you're into archeology! grand cayman twice. first time we just walked around the city georgetown, very nice) the second time we went swimming with the stingrays. the water only comes up to about your waist. and the rays come right up to you. you can also get snorkeling equipment on the boat takes you out. dunn river falls is crowded, but there is beach, and you can (along with others) walk up the falls. great spot for a picture. from the beach level, looking up at the entire falls. please don't let the crowds dissuade you from missing tis opportunity. my best advice, would be, as soon as you get on board, go to the excursion desk, they usually have descriptions and costs of all the available tours, and prices. pick up the ones for the ports you have interest in, get a cold Heineken, and go back to your cabin (if its available) study the descriptions, and then decide what you'd like to do. my friend went zip-lining in cozumel (not my cup of tea) by the way, you will see that most of the shore excursions are crowded (especially the most popular ones), especially if there is more than one ship docked (not unusual for cozumel or jamaica). imagine 3 ships and all the tourists descending in ocho rios, or georgetown. large crowds have become, (if not have always been) a necessary evil of cruising. some ports are even trying to block large ships from docking at their ports regardless, go, sail, enjoy and most of all "BON VOYAGE"
  22. traveling man, thank you. it seems our posts go back many years (to even ask and answers on ncl fleet description) I have always considered your answers/posts as knowledgeable, well informed and interesting to read.
  23. it may be the greatest song ever, but you would rather be sitting on the dock of the bay ,or on a cruise to no where man
  24. ok, so i made a level mistake 1st one in many years (lol), she is pearl, (besides they both start with a "p") any way, i think i made my point, someone can have more than 1 status on an ncl cruise.
  25. hey laszlo, why are you insulting the indians?
