  1. it's at least an hour from where the ship docks. so just to be safe, i'd book a flight home after 2:00 p.m.
  2. hey, hottubmomma! do you also get sea-sick in your hot tub? inquiring minds want to know
  3. hey, sunnyway! why don't you disregard the "complaints" listed by other people, don't begin your cruise with a negative spin and just enjoy your time on board. my wife and i have been on 24 ncl cruises, most of their ships, and I've posted many thoughts and comments. out of all these cruises, in reality, the only real complaint I've ever posted is i've never been on one of these cruises, where the hamburger bun didn't fall apart before I finished the hamburger, if that's the most horrible thing i can complain about, i figure i'm miles ahead. if sometimes the food isnt always up to par, remember the kitchen is putting out meals at least 3 X's a day for multiple venues, and a few 1000 people. you obviously dont know me, but trust me. just the joy of sitting on your balcony with a cold drink, watching the world go by, is enough to make me happy, and delighted to be on board. i dont care about any onboard activities, can take or leave most of the show and/entertainment, and just enjoy the fact that i'm on a cruise ship, sailing to multiple exotic destinations. finally(and i apologize for this wordy post) if you want to insure a better experience, i suggest you try and book either a haven or a regular suite. i'm certain you'll find a much better experience. also, please note that in all the posts on this site, i believe that most are positive rather than the negative ones you mention. AMEN!
  4. as i stated, im not knocking anyone who takes advantage of this perk, it's just not something i'd be interested in doing
  5. cagney's, hands down, but because of the age of your kids, they'd probably prefer the pizza in la cucina. i think cagney's would be a little to much for the two of them, especially a 6 year old
  6. 54 points away from diamond, i think i'll pass on dinner with the officers. not knocking those who want to experience this, but i have no interest whatsoever
  7. to pin or not to pin! why is this even an issue, and why spend so much time arguing about it. i get my pin, and throw it n the suitcase, never to be seen again. if someone wants to wear the pin, no one else should even give a rats tushie about why. as an aside, i cruise ncl as after checking other lines, i firmly believe ncl gives it's passengers the best "bang for their buck", itinerary and price wise, although i concede that they are getting pricey the lst few years.
  8. ok cole thorton, the stoner part i understand (although i havent been in that category in many, many years), but what is it actually?
  9. sorry for my unrefined pallet, but what the heck is "poutine"?
  10. while for the past 13 years, (24cruises) all exclusively with NCL, why do your sales seem not really to be "sales" and just an increase of prices to be marked down to appear to be a sale price
  11. while the ship may get in at 6, you will probably not be able to exit until at least 7 or later. the airport is not very far from the pier, but to give you a reasonable answer, it would probably be best if you told us where you're flying to. i'd look at flight starting at 11:00
  12. unless the excursion is on the 1st day after departure, you are allowed to cancel an excursion 48 hrs prior. otherwise it's probably best to call, speak with someone, cancel through hem, and get an email confirmation of the cancelation. personally, i'd rather get the money back on my card rather than an obc, but that's probably just me.
  13. you can deal with ncl directly, you do not need an pcc. ifyou get a call from one of them, you can simply say no thank you. for years i booked directly with CAS, One fine day i received a cold call from a pcc. i asked her what she could do for me that a i couldnt do for myself, but i decided to give her a try. i usually do all the research myself, decide where, when and which ship i wanted, then called her to just book it for me. after a while, i got frustrated with her, as her numbers didnt jibe with mine. she was a lovely person, but there were benefits we had through CASof which she was unaware, so i went back to booking myself through CAS. we subsequently found a person working through CAS that is an absolute godsend. unfortunately due to cruise critic's rules and regulations, i cannot share her information
  14. well, on the other hand, im looking at a 21 day cruise from capetown to barcleona march 2024. we travel with a close friend, and a 2 bedroom suite on the ncl dawn is (drum roll please) $25000 and that includes my 10% military discount. we're booked on a back to back this july, london to copenhagen, copenhagen to stockholm. 19 day cruise, again with our friend, and the 2 bedroom was $19000. if she wasnt joining us, and we wanted the family suite with balcony, it was $15,000, b2b now, im not b***hing, but it is a little costly. much higher than previous cruises the 3 of us have taken. and yes, i understand we dont have to book a suite, but (1) other than the 3 bedroom, this is the only cabin category that offers a 2nd bathroom, and (2) if we both booked a club balcony suite, the price is almost the same and we wouldnt get the perks
  15. unless youre really picky about being 1st off in a port, imho the priority package isnt worth the price of admission
  16. i wasnt going to chime in on this one, but it seems to be getting away from everyone. we were just on the jewel, and they had the in person muster drill. about 20 minutes of non-stop babbling in english, then another 20 in spanish. it was a great way to catch a few zzz's. obviously, i preferred the video (since we ere forced to watch it while checking in anyway, but i can concede a few minutes of my time prior to sailing to listen to what they have to say. by the way, our muster point was in o'sheehan's, with no problem hearing the entire spiel.
  17. if you're all checked in and the forms are entirely completed, you should be able to click on the cruise docs. in 24 cruises with ncl, they've always been there at least 24 hrs after the check in forms have been completed
  18. mocruisefan. as usual, great in depth advice. your sarcasm is (as always) underwhelming. instead of suggesting they stay in their cabin, why didnt you just tell them to cancel the cruise. bunches of folks on a ship is the hazard of sailing on large vessels.
  19. if you're in a haven or suite (although not club balcony suite), the concierge or the butler will escort you off the ship. depending on when you get back from the excursion, and the port departure time, your butler will be waiting at the bottom of the gangway, with a sign, and will also escort you back to a private elevator. sure it will p**s off others waiting in line to get back on the ship, but that's one of the goodies and perks that come with booking a suite. i cant guarantee this will be the case on all ncl ships, but it was on our last 2 sailings, the gem and just recently the jewel. by the way, our butler, theresa was theeee best
  20. while my wife has no problems with the wrist bans, i'd steer away from the patches. on our very 1st cruise, many years ago, my wife (who talks to everyone) met a very nice lady. she introduced me and i asked where her husband was? she told us, he used the patches, and is nowin their cabin, seeing monkeys!. go figure!
  21. see if the getaway has a cabin category of just "suites" not club balcony suites. some ncl ships have both, and (1) the suites-not haven are a little less money (2) you get most of the same perks (3) you get the butler, concierge and breakfast and lunch at either cagney's or moderno's, but no access to the haven pool, restaurant or bar. if there is no suite category, unfortunately you'll just have to go with the flow. if the buffet seems overly crowded, try the mdr or o'sheehan's
  22. take along some ginger candy or ginger gum. also if you feel it coming on, ask for some green apples slices and some ginger ale. works like a charm. there are also wrist bands you can get at your local pharmacy
  23. hey sea shark: why do you always seem to get your knickers in a twist? it seems that after any given question or comment, you're the one "throwing shade" i just merely inquired if the op was actually going to wear the pin. i wasnt berating, criticizing or making fun of him/her.. we're sapphire, and have been on over 24 ncl cruises. consequently i have a drawer full of those latitude pins. yes! i know i could have turned them down, but it's way easier just to accept them, say "thank you" and throw they in the suitcase. god bless anyone who wants to wear/display them proudly by the way, it's completely wrong to call out chiefmate jrk. havent you figured out by now, that most of his posts are firmly tounge cheek and almost entirely satirical? it's a forum site, you neednt take yourself nor the posts so seriously. im and old man, so best advice to you is "LIGHTEN UP"
  24. im sorry to ask this, but are you really going to wear them? we just got out sapphire pin, and it went right into the drawer when we got home
