  1. if the bottle of wine is free (cagney's & le bistro) it seems to me that no one on the staff in the restaurant would/should be concerned if the wine is being shared with anyone else at the table, regardless of whether or not they also have the package. what is the waiter going to do? confiscate the bottle, or the glasses from the other people? i think not
  2. six, however, was amazing.. one of the best shows we've ever seen while on board a cruise ship. (IMHO) incidentally, we've never bothered to see priscilla
  3. on our last cruise, oct/nov, we just went to the showroom, the concierge was waiting there to show haven and suite passengers to their seats, no reservations were necessary. that being said, however, going to the theater a little early, i found the seats we picked out ourselves were much better viewing wise.
  4. cookies, m&m's, gummie bears, chocolate milk. i ask for our butler to bring a pot of coffee and hot water for tea, sweet rolls and croissants 1st thing in the morning, cheese and crackers for an afternoon snack, maybe p&j sandwiches for your kids, just about anything that is reasonable you can ask for with the butler, they can call him and get pizza
  5. mocruisefan....wait until the IRS finds out.D.C. isnt all that big (LOL)
  6. patrlr "NO"!! an accumulation of opinions, just fosters more confusion. with all the different posters on the ncl cruise critic how can one possibly make an educated choice with varying opinions coming from all angles? i stand by my post. what he needs to do, is log onto his website, check out the information listed under entertainment, and decide which show(s) if any he/she wants to see. someone may rave about a show, op gets excited about the review/opinion, wants to see this show, and comes to find out that it's not on his cruise. then what? remember the wise old adage " opinions are like as*****s, everybody's got one. of course it's perfectly fine to ask, but i think there are to many different shows to choose from, for this person to make an informed decision. other than that, i think most of your posts/responses are spot on
  7. took the bliss to alaska this past july, didnt see anything resembling line dancing anywhere, but to confess, im no c&w fan, so even if it was offered, i would have ignored it, but i still think the answer is no, sorry!
  8. werent you aware, when you booked your respective cabins, that the perks offered to haven passengers, did not trickle down to non-haven or suite cabins? if you had a 2 bedroom suite, why didnt you book your parents into the 2nd bedroom, in that way they too would have enjoyed all the privileges afforded to haven passengers. my wife and i often travel with a very good and close friend of mine. when the 3 of us book, we always book the 2 bedroom, as it's only her, she doesnt mind the size of the 2nd room, as she also has full use of the rest of the cabin, as well as the haven perks. by the way, we were also recently on the gem and booked the non haven 2 bedroom. the cabins are essentially the same, but the haven is about 2-3,000 more, so we opted for the non-haven as again, the perks were entirely the same.
  9. cruiseny4life: im so glad you can appreciate my sardonic sense of humor, and i do sincerely hope that one day you and your significant other, chiefmatejrk, and my wife and i can find ourselves on the same cruise. if that ever happens, god save the rest of the ship and passengers
  10. lunch is available on embarkation day for "ALL" guests booked into a suite. we were on the gem last oct/nov. we waited about10 minutes, the butler came and got us all. he took us to the muster station, where all they did was swipe our room keys, then he took us directly to cagneys
  11. without trying to be evasive, arent someone else's opinions of shows subjective? we walked out of jersy boys on the bliss last july, but loved six. some people raved about jersey boys. we had theater tickets to kinky boots, that i gave to my grandson as we had no overwhelming desire to see the show. we went to see "get down tonight" on the gem and thought it was a performance trying to find itself. so you need to decide for yourself,. by the way, i'm 74 and my wife is 73, and actually, i dont really care what shows are being staged on the ship. that's really not part of my criteria, and regardless of the length of the cruise, if i didnt get to see even 1 show, i wouldnt feel slighted, cheated or that i missed something. my best advice to to take the cruise, go to the shows, and make your own decision(s) that being said, enjoy your cruise and any shows you may choose to see
  12. we were 1for 2 for gsc. personally, i wouldnt bother to get off the ship, even if we were able to dock. i'd rather sit on the deck , with a glass of scotch.
  13. cruiseny4life, you're probably not doing anything wrong (to each his own) but just the thought or the sight of a chubby, hairy chested guy in a speedo walking through the area, in and of itself, is simply terrifying , and sounds like something from a stephen king novel (lo)
  14. 1st you need to understand (if you dont know already) that venice is an hour and a half from trieste. any way, i worry about the flights booked thru ncl, and i prefer to book myself. we were on the b2b venice (trieste) , trieste to rome oct thru nov, i booked delta comfort, los angeles to jfk, jfk to venice. we stayed at a very nice marriott for 2 days, (try and take the murano glass factory tour) we took a gondola ride ( on my bucket list), had lunch in st marks square,( by the way, if youve never been there, venice is amazing). prior to leaving home, we made arrangements to have a shuttle pick us up at the hotel and drive us to a hotel in trieste, where we spent another night. they had an arrangement with ncl to have a bus pick us up and take us to the port. i strongly suggest you take an extra day if possible, as trieste is also very nice. any way, i believe that ncl can get you to venice when you want, and from athens to the airport when you get there, but i suggest you spend a few days in venice also. but, i think you'd be much better off making your own arrangements. by the way, it's very easy to get a cab at venice airport. last bit if advice, get loads of euros, as italy doesnt like to take US currency
  15. we've stayed both in and out of the courtyard area, and personally, it made no difference in the quality of service. in fact a few years back, e were in the aft penthouse on the epic, and except for the ridiculous configuration of the room, our butler was one of the best we've ever had. walking a little (or a lot) never affected our cruise
  16. loved the waterfront, and the ability to eat outside and people watch. the best show we've ever seen (imho) was called illusionarium on the getaway, unfortunately, they no longer have it
  17. some people will complain even if they are being hung with a brand new rope. this forum is for comments, good or bad. what is ironic, is that the naysayers are forgetting they're on a beautiful cruise ship, with lots of things to see and do, and regardless of the complaints, all these problems listed, real or imagined are 1st world problems. complain about the food, but remember they are trying to feed a few 1000 people 3 times per day, in numerous restaurants, complain about the extra $1.20 for a shot of baileys, when you consider the cost of the cruise (even in an inside cabin), unless you drink over 10 shots per day, the overall cost is minimal. complain about the shows, simply dont go. i dont think most cruise lines will vary that greatly, ive been with ncl so long, it doesnt pay to try another line, we're sapphire, i enjoy the perks, and whatever issues i may have had throughout my 10 years of cruising with ncl (over 20)and 4 more lined up in 2023 were really minor when i look at the total picture. i believe $ for $ ncl gives you more bang for your buck, and they have taken me to some amazing, extraordinary places in the past 10 years. my criteria for booking is price and itinerary. ncl meets these 100% but nclgetawaymenhoney, thank you for your kind words
  18. the $50 isnt a "gimmick" but it certainly doesnt qualify as free shore excursions (my one truly great beef with ncl) whatever the price of a shore excursion is (say $100) and you have the 4 of you going. the $50 is deducted from the person whose name is the primary one on the reservation, they pay $50 instead of $100, and the total cost for that excursion becomes $350. you can login to your ncl account and under explore and plan, it will give you the options to book for shows, dinners, excursions, etc. every night you will receive a list of daily activities and happenings for the next day. if by chance you have booked a haven or a suite, you also get the services of a butler, concierge, and priority. if you ask 1000 people what they liked or disliked you'll probably get 1000 different answers. my wife and i have taken over 20 cruises with ncl over the last 20 years (covid shut down obviously excluded) and have sailed on many different ncl ships. personally, i have enjoyed each and every one. some we have had minor annoyances, but not enough to spoil the cruise. you can eat and drink yourself into oblivion if you want to (or not) , you can book shore excursions through ncl, but some are really high priced. at most ports if it's at all feasible, we take the descriptions of the excursions with us, and hire a cab. we show him where we want to go, and generally speaking it's cheaper, and we've never had a problem getting back to the ship on time.as this is your 1st ncl cruise, i suggest you stay with the tried and true and book thru the ship. jokingly i have complained (but most truth is said in jest) that in every ncl cruise i have ever taken, whenever i get an hamburger, the bun "ALWAYS" falls apart. hamburgers were not created to be eaten with a knife and fork. sorry for the lenght, bottom line is you're on an amazing cruise ship, with goodies galore, and i imagine you will have an outstanding. memorable vacation. BON VOYAGE!
  19. ok, i stand corrected, but i still dont think a haven suite for a solo traveler is cost effective. but that's just my take on the issue. far be it from me to tell anyone else how to spend their money
  20. be that as it may, i would think one goes to a steakhouse for steak, sea food is secondary at best, and cagney's has trout, grilled shrimp and fishermans platter, not much choice (imho) i would think the lady is better off in le bistro, where she can order the sea bass, or my wife likes the coq au vin
  21. i have stated in the past, i'm happy even just to be on a ship, sitting on my balcony, sipping a cold heineken. in 22 ncl cruises, i rarely if ever, even bother with the daily activities. my wife and i are 74 and 75 year old baby boomers, and watching the world go by while at sea or visiting some exotic port, is good enough for me. jan 2023 we're doing trans canal, aug we're doing the 9 day baltic, and next dec, the good lord willin' and the crick dont rise, the 9 day from dubai to mumbai (how much more exotic an you get)
  22. on our last cruise, we needed to go to the muster station, and they just swiped our room key and we al moved on
