Who will be the Cruise Director on the Queen Anne do we think?
sfred replied to ace2542's topic in Cunard Line
QM2's Paul O'Laughlin, now retired, was also outstanding. He was also aboard QE for her inaugural 2019 Alaska voyage. Paul was one of several who carried the Cunard Boston cup into Liverpool Cathedral on QM2's 175th anniversary voyage. -
A really nice day today in Barcelona. We remembered a few things from our previous visit (gasp - 29 years ago!) but so much felt new. We had a nice tapas late lunch and a lot(!) more sangria than we really should have.

QM2 Mixed Review: Some deferred maintenance, poor food, but a delight otherwise

On QE in PG, the menu describes this breakfast item as "brioche french toast", so presumably made from brioche bread. I've had it once on our voyage and thought it was good, although I prefer my typical double short blacks (espresso coffees) and a croissant or two. -
QE is in Barcelona today 18 September, at Terminal D. A big turnaround day. Welcome to those boarding later today and safe onward travels for those returning home. We have only one more week aboard but are eager to see Barcelona today 🌞. The last time here was 1994 so I imagine some things have changed.

Our weather has been extraordinarily excellent. We've missed every major storm from Hilary to Lee to Margot, there has never been any more than a passing shower, and seas have been calm. Could not ask for better conditions.

The Cadiz guns didn't attempt to defend the city against the single ship Cunard Armada. 😀

A late sunrise this morning 7.37a Friday 15 September between Madeira and Cadiz. Apologies for the glass reflection in the second photo. We were at breakfast already when the sun emerged from the horizon.

It was a pleasant ~25 minutes along the Funchal waterfront. There was a Cunard shuttle bus to Avenida de Arriaga which could have reduced the walking distance by around half, but we preferred the full walk after the five TA sea days.

Exactly! We walked down to the cable car after getting off the ship. Very impressive palace and gardens. We've just finished a tasty bolo de caco lunch in Funchal town.

Wednesday 13 September, QE's last TA sea day before arriving Madeira tomorrow. Some overcast and low rolling swells from storm Margot behind us to the west, but remaining dry and calm.

Cunard Cruisers - How are things where you are ?

Best wishes for great crossings! -
Tuesday 12 September. A very bright moon and Venus this morning at first light. Seas remain calm and skies clear, well away of the storms to the west and south.

Unfortunately many (most?) ports ban taking any food or drink off the ship. Sometimes there are Labrador or beagle quarantine detection dogs to assist with enforcement. I always thought our two labradors would have made great quarantine dogs in their day. They could find sausages or cheese in anything!

Monday 11 September. Sunrise, moonrise, and Venus rise on the middle day of our TA. Venus is at the upper right just above the cloud, a small white dot whose pixel will hopefully get through Cruise Critic image compression.

Here's another QE painting, located off the grand lobby on deck 3. Both the ship in the foreground and the port in the background have changed a lot since the painting was done.

LA to Ft. Lauderdale via the Panama Canal on the QE
sfred replied to Jack E Dawson's topic in Cunard Line
QE's 2024 schedule shows a longer Alaska season and then an earlier return to Australia, via San Francisco and Honolulu, rather than the Canal and Mediterranean voyages happening this year. -
Correct! The detail in the paintings is impressive.

Thanks @NE John. Upon yesterday's departure from Bermuda the captain announced that our great circle course track to Madeira should be well clear of the storms, but that as a precaution we would increase our speed for the first day or two and then decrease once across into the eastern Atlantic.
