  1. That…and probably Licensing Fees. Why pay $$ in License Fees for a tired show when you can produce your own theatrical performances across the fleet. In the past the NCL talent auditions focused on finding talent for their specific productions (like Footloose, COM, etc). Now the are very generalized, yet requiring multiple abilities. Dancers who can dance multiple styles, along with gymnastics. Singers who can sing various genres and dance. It’s just taking time for these acts to come together. And, they are auditioning for Game Show Hosts and Game Show Supervisors.
  2. @yakcruiser thank you!! WOF is popular in 13 countries outside the US. But within those countries the show is broadcast in their native language using their own phrases. Just because it’s popular globally doesn’t mean an English version will be globally popular.
  3. Absolutely correct. But you’re missing the point. Music (shows), numbers (games like Bingo, Deal, Price), knowledge (trivia) are universal. Even if English is my secondary language, I can still find enjoyment in the offering. A game like WOF is different. It is based on a series of phrases and colloquialisms that are likely not used across regions, let alone guessing the English alphabet to complete the phrase. Sounds like a blast for the French traveler who knows about as much English as I know French. My opinion maybe wrong, if so, I accept my fate. la responsabilite’ s’arrete
  4. And so?? What version will they play on the ship? And phrases are not universal.
  5. Risky in a foreign country. The security agent who asked for $20 to speak French to clear customs quicker would probably want $200 to speak French to the po-po.
  6. NICE!! I’m sure you’re so excited for this cruise.
  7. Wishing you many more anniversary cruises. We celebrated our 32nd … on April Fools Day.
  8. That was supposed to be funny…I would never expect you would do that. Congrats on 46 years…and what an destination to mark the memory.
  9. The release did say it would launch on Escape, so you’re probably right that it was a prototype or test experience. It also states 16 vessels “by” Spring 2024, which suggests a ship-by-ship rollout. I’m still questioning the viability of this game outside the US. Language is not universal like numbers or trivia.
  10. Do NOT rip your pants this flight.😇 Let the fun begin…be safe and most of all ENJOY each moment.
  11. Yes any thing can be measured, but it can be insignificant…which is what @PATRLR was suggesting.
  12. Just don’t call her your Service Wife🤣
  13. That will be a fun dinner? Skip dessert…there were also several ice cream/ chocolate shops in the area.
  14. I agree the production shows will be very limited moving forward. I actually think they will be moving more towards the type of entertainment you see on MSC…which both you and I agree it is entertaining. Various song/dance/theatrical performances utilizing a designated group of performers across all shows.
  15. Crew members (which is not all staff aboard) are on contract. They are guaranteed a base + gratuity (aka service charge). The DSC that we pay goes to the ships P&L. If a guest removes the DSC it does not affect the “Crew”…it affects the profitability of the ship on that sailing. If you tip more through NCL (I.e., extra tip on receipt in specialty dining), the “Crew” do not get this…it goes to ships P&L. If you tip extra in cash, it may get pooled (bar, restaurant) or it may get pocketed directly (room steward). Therefore, it is not unreasonable that a GSR (staff) would suggest that you reduce the amount of DSC to compensate you for whatever disservice you may have encountered. It will NOT AFFECT what the crew is compensated. It simply affects the ship’s bottom line…which is no different than if they refunded you to your account or gave you OBC.
  16. Looks like you might be in Victoria for her birthday. We took a cab into downtown where there were lots of bars and restaurants…lots of people on the street. Very vibrant. I don’t have any recommendations on places to dine…but Ask around the boards…I’m sure you’ll get some. Have fun!
  17. OMG… my wish! Unfortunately, wasn’t called 🙁
  18. Do you recall, were there any specialty seasonal coffees, ie pumpkin spice latte or Frappuccinos?
  19. That would be nice for sure. But when the VP of Onboard Revenue puts out a press release about a new gaming opportunity, it would be counter-intuitive to believe this will be complimentary (at least in the current market). Plus the equipment and partnership with Sony and Time Play come with a cost.
  20. This seems like the Wheel will have less appeal on the itineraries outside of the US due to language differences. Games that use numbers or knowledge are more universal. Wheel uses words and phrases. Hmmm. and, by no means will this be free.
  21. Here’s what I ask… “We are committed to providing our guests with quality entertainment across their cruise journey,” said Craig Steyn, vice president of onboard revenue operations of Norwegian Cruise Does the VP of Onboard Revenue typically handle the production shows and entertainment? Clearly this is an offering that NCL will have to generate revenue, like bingo and Deal or No Deal. I didn’t see anywhere in the release that said it was replacing nightly entertainment.
  22. That’s interesting. We just sailed MSC at the end of August. We had to overnight in Nassau and missed Ocean Cay and both me and DH got $19.10 OBC each. We were shocked since we’re used to NCL’s general stance. Just goes to show there is no consistency regardless of cruise line.
