I find that a lot of rule breaking news articles tend to devolve into "Well that shouldn't be a rule anyway!" "I need it for my anxiety!" "It's legal where I came from!" "No one can tell me what to do!" "Cancer patients need it!" What have you. At the end of the day, you agreed to allow a company to house you, feed you, and cart you from one end of the globe to the other. In doing so, you agreed that you would leave your stanky danky at home. SO JUST DO THAT. Follow the rules you agreed to. The moral, ethical, legal, philisophical angle doesn't matter. You said you wouldn't do it, so don't. If NCL says you can't wear yellow socks, don't. Who cares what your opinion is...you chose to cruise.

Latitude Rewards are usually for the sailing. It doesn't matter what room you have.

They will put you in whence ever room is available. Which quite possibly would be a less wanted room like one with an obstructed view.

This no doubt is part of it. Also part of it is the chance of getting tips in the service industry is used as a carrot to make workers go above and beyond. It's like any bonus system that any employer comes up with.....just instead of them paying it they make their customers pay it. Ultimately, since I only encounter about 2% of the people who worked to make my vacation great, this is the only way I can contribute to those faceless workers who should be paid more but aren't, and are depending on me.

This is an asinine question as the pay system on a land based vacation is not set up in the same way as a cruise, so you are basically comparing apples to oranges and asking why the orange isn't red. You withhold fees if they haven't done a good job. The fact that you are already trying to withhold fees before you even get on a ship shows that no matter how hard they work, they are not going to get a gratuity from you.

Probably b/c no one is going to try to bully the tour operator for a fat payout or for future vacations. Follow the money. There is a reason this couple immediately went to the media and blamed everything on NCL.

That would be an incredibly childish thing to do. But given their behavior so far, you have probably pegged them right. It's interesting how many people think that those in the service industry are there to be their punching bags.

Why do you think the captain would take your abuse? A simple response of "Gosh, if your meds were so important, you think you could have made it back on time? I use this new invention called a watch for just these types of situations." But this is sort of the attitude I am talking about when I am saying that NCL shouldn't have let them back on the ship at all, and just sent them home or cancelled their vacation. There is no doubt that their attitude is similar to this poster...namely "I am the main character, and I think I can be abusive to crew members if they do something I don't like". This poster actually treats it as a point of pride that they try to needle people and cause fights and would like to end up in the brig over it. Why let someone with such an axe to grind back on the ship to abuse your staff?

I can see the ads now "Exotic Locales! That we are not afraid to leave you at if you cause problems!"

I mean, they got back on this cruise ship and went thru 7 different countries to do it. Apparently they liked something about the cruise.

I don't want to read 27 pages of this, especially as I am seeing people claim that "The customer is always right! NCL should have let them come back at their own pace". But I am curious....Would it benefit NCL to just ban this couple? Not to put to fine a point on it, but they purposely broke the rules, went directly to the media with their grievances, and have basically been nothing but a horrible headache and PR disaster. And at no point have they ever admitted that they could have done better. Their basic attitude is "I am always right, rules don't apply to me". So you can imagine how they flout other rules and treat other passengers/crew members. If I was NCL I would do a full pushback and say "Not only did we leave your late ass behind, but we are banning you for life for trying to ruin the vacations of 2998 other passengers with your actions." Sometimes the best defense is a good offense. I really think hotels, planes, cruises, stores, and sporting stadiums should start standing up for the vast majority of people that follow rules and try to be cognizant of the OTHER paying customers they are with. I would have much more respect for any business that said "This person was abusive to staff, wouldn't follow the rules, threatened the vacations of others, and so we decided we didn't want them on future cruises." I wouldn't have let them come back on the ship at all. Fly them home. But maybe I am too harsh. I am getting to the point though going to public events fills me with dread because I know 5000 people will behave, and 2 will try to ruin everything.

This is a disturbing trend I have noticed. No one likes to be told no...but I honestly encounter so many people now who seem to have never been told "no" in their life. There seems to be no previous experience they can latch on to in order to help them deal with being told "no". I have never seen people freak out so quickly then when being told "no, you can't smoke there.", "No, we aren't open yet". "No, there are no substitutions to the menu". Etc etc. "No" seems to be the magic word that sets off huge swaths of the population. Indignant Anger.

I mean, I find quite a bit of rudeness in the older generation too. Supposedly raised in the time that manners were "taught". I have noticed more rudeness in people, but to be honest....I think COVID broke some people's brains. I think the pandemic was so traumatic to some people that they went off the deep end. They live in a constant state of anxiety, view everything thru a political "us vs them" lens, and it just makes them on edge and very quick to snap. There were always self absorbed "do you know who I am???" people with short tempers before COVID. That's just humanity. But boy...did I notice a marked uptick after COVID. During the pandemic some people went out of the way to act foolish, and they haven't stopped. I also think a lot of people were always kind of rude, but they would try to hold back because they were afraid to be punched. I think we spend so much time online now where someone can't physically punch you, and that has made a lot of people a lot more mouthy than they would be normally. People talk to you in real life like they are still behind the keyboard. I don't advocate violence by any means......but people acted a bit less foolish when they thought there was a chance they would get socked in the nose. As far as the children/parent example in the OPs story....almost all parents I see on cruises are frazzled, at their wits end, and ready to snap. They feel people judging them for their children's behavior. After a week or so of constantly feeling judged as a mother, you are ready to throw down with anyone. It's just a fact that children are naturally noisy and fidgety and constantly in motion. That's just being a kid. But it is usually annoying to adults who are not related to the kid. And nothing drags a person down more than figuring out that no one else besides you thinks your kid is a wonderful angel.

Sort of confused. Unless the OP was hoping to find a magical poster who happened to stay on both ships in that exact room…..then the only advice that could be given was to check the deck plans which are available on multiple sites. But one can’t discount that there is a large group of people on the internet who derive great pleasure in being rude to other posters. Almost as if they don’t realize/care there are real people with thoughts and feelings behind the screen name. My advice to OP is that if you are going to post a question in an online forum, then you don’t really get to gate keep who gives you an answer. Call NCL next time and be rude to them instead?

It's not a sensitive topic, you are fine. We had a similar thread a week ago where a parent did the opposite of you. Basically wanted to skirt the rules and get a cabin for herself/daughter, and another for husband. Then just put daughter by herself in the room. You aren't doing that. You're splitting parental duties, which is how it should be done. Definitely get duplicate keys. Done and done.

I might have missed it, but is there a reason you are waiting till you get on the ship? You can book ahead of time from website or app. The people you are competing with for reservations at busy restaurants are getting the drop on you.

I hope you enjoyed your cruise! Were you able to get vibe passes while on ship? Where did you go to purchase?

The current live Prima sailing thread has confirmed the show is up this week. That being said, shows get cancelled all the time. Don’t make that the prime reason to select a sailing/boat.
