  1. I read an article just this morning that Port Everglades is going to be undoing some serious construction/upgrade projects in the near future. I can't find the article now so, I can't give specifics. So maybe the Terminal is closing due to upgrade/construction for a month or so.
  2. Full disclosure: I used to be the Human Resource manager for the Corp. before Bill Bodenhamer, CEO, sold out/merged most of the companies that he owned and operated. BTW, that was back in 2005 when I retired. I don't think I know anybody there now other than Bill.
  3. For me, it isn't just about the meal (although the Hibachi on RCCL is much better than any land-based that I've been to), or even the quality of the meal, as long as it's not poor, it's the whole package, the meal, the location, the atmosphere, the service, and so much more. When I cruise, the ship and ocean are my destinations, not necessarily the itinerary/ports of call. But, that's just me!
  4. Yep, it is just a few hours more. I retired from Port Everglades/FLL. I know it very well. The port of Miami is my favorite RCCL terminal (the new one), it's just too bad it's in Miami LOL. The RCCL terminal in Port Everglades is just a little too industrial or cargo look for my liking (at least the last time I was there and things change often in Port Everglades). That's not a big deal, just that I prefer more of a nautical and welcoming theme.
  5. Yep, Indy is a very nice ship, we were on her last Oct. But, in my opinion, nothing like the Quantum and Oasis classes.
  6. Well, some or maybe even many folks don't live near a JRs. Without making a special trip, the only way I get to go to a JRs if I travel to certain locations anyway. For example, if I travel to Windsor, Canada to go to the Casino there, there is a JRs in the casino that we go to.
  7. If Tampa did have Quantum and Oasis Class, I'd cruise out of there.
  8. We've been going to that area, to the casinos for decades, but never thought of or knew that there was a military-related retirement home there. We went there, Gulfport/Biloxi, shortly after Hurricane Katrina and man that place looked like it would never recover. But, it did and it's back even nicer. The retirement home was devastated, too. But, they demolished it and built a beautiful 3 tower complex with ocean/gulf views from every balcony. We took a full tour of the place a few weeks ago and I was blown away by how nice the place is and how the residents absolutely love it. I haven't been this excited in years. Also, our cruise in January and hopefully more in the future will be that much closer in distance and ease of driving.
  9. We have applied for and been accepted for residency into the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, MS. We are #1 on the waitlist for a couple's apartment. What does that have to do with Royal Caribbean? Well, that puts us 6 1/2 hours away from the Port Of Galveston and 8 1/2 hours away from the Port of Canaveral, and an easy peasy road system to get to both. So, if Royal Caribbean comes to its senses and makes its cruise fares reasonable again, we'll be cruising frequently again. BUT, we have double trouble, being almost in the middle of two cruise ports AND being in the middle of several casinos in the Gulfport/Biloxi area. Man, I'm in trouble. Just in case you are wondering, NO, I wouldn't consider cruising out of New Orleans or Tampa. It would be perfect if RCCL started cruising Quantum and/or Oasis class ships out of Mobile, though. But, I know that ain't gonna happen.
  10. Okay, but I don't think anything I said was at all confusing for anyone. "For me, the one that we stayed in will always be called a Star Loft Suite even though I know it's really a Grand Loft Suite". And the discussion was about a Quantum Class ship, not an Oasis Class.
  11. Damn, I guess I shouldn't be wearing my Leopard Skin Thong Speedo to WJ. I'm bummed, no really, I'm bummed.
  12. I'd like you to quantify, "the number of people" that swear not to sail RCL again if........ I, for one, and several others seemed to agree that the possible charge for pizza is just part of a rolling snowball. Eventually, it's going to get too big! I don't think that communication with an issue like this makes a difference. It's still taking away (possibly) an amenity that has traditionally been included. I'm sorry to be so direct but - It is thoughts like this that give RCCL, et al, the green light to raise prices/reduce services/reduce quantities. Seasoned cruisers with RCCL have become accustomed to the "included" pizza/snack shop called Sorrento's. Apparently, they have already removed the "snack" portion of the pizza shop (Sorrento's). Adding an additional charge to the substandard or even if they upgrade it, upsets the applecart. And last, you are 100% right, it hasn't happened and it may not. But, silence is permission. And you can bet that they (the weenies at the mother ship) monitor this and other social media sites that are dedicated to cruising.
  13. And you'd be wrong, at least as it pertains to me. I really enjoy Star Class. Is it perfect? No! But, there is more right about it, a lot more, than wrong. Well, the cost is driving me away though.
  14. Thanks, I did and that doesn't look like the young lady that I remember. I think I have a video of her hosting the "World's Sexiest Man" contest, I'll dig it up one of these days, after I'm done moving.
  15. We're on Harmony in January. If they don't have the marinated cheese and olives, I'll be pissed and someone will hear about it, not that I feel that it will make a difference. Seems the Corp weenies, after they make up their mind, that's it, no changing back. DAMN THE DORPEDOES!
  16. LOL, yep! We, especially me, are addicted to Amazon Prime. Hardly a day goes by that we (me, her, or both of us) don't buy something. It's crazy. We are taking a break though, we have two things (a four-drawer filing cabinet and space makers for hanging clothes) coming tomorrow and that's it. Don't want items being delivered when we might not even be living here anymore. We'll get into it again after the move, I'm sure. LOL
  17. Does anybody have a picture of her? I'm not a follower of CDs (or Captains for that matter), but on one cruise way back when, there was an assistant CD, female that was miles better than the actual CD. She was as described above and I was impressed. She hosted the "World's Sexiest Man" contest at the Aqua Theater, man she was funny, engaging, and a professional entertainer. In fact, I believe she hosted far more events than I think an assistant CD usually would. Maybe the CD was sick or something. But, we were the beneficiaries of whatever the reason for the CD's absence. I'd like to see if Katie is the same one we experienced way back when!
  18. My first message/forum/blog (I'll make it simple and call them all "Forums") was back in the late 1990s, via AOL (my brother-in-law still uses @aol.com email), it was a Honda Goldwing Motorcycle board, spent lots of great years in there. Since then, I'm probably in several forums, this being just one of them. I will admit I do spend most of my "forum" time here. My wife spends A LOT of time on her computer (laptop) on Facebook, playing "Candy Crush" or other such games, and here on Cruise Critic <rarely. She rarely posts though, she just likes to read current events with family and friends. She also searches for sales. Also, her email program is full of sale notifications from almost every known retail business in N. America and beyond. I'm a very busy person, usually. I think there are a few folks in here that think I spend a lot of time here. But, I don't sit around doing nothing in between projects, shopping trips, medical appointments, and on and on. When I sit down in between things, I grab a cup of coffee, coke, or water, and the laptop and check what's new here and in other places, like I'm doing now. In a minute or two or longer, I'll get busy for an hour or two to pack/box things up as our home is for sale and we are moving to Gulfport, MS, soon. Then during a break, I'll be back here and elsewhere. So, I am addicted to social media, I guess. But, it doesn't rule my life. So, @vision14k, I don't have your issue, my wife stays in her own little world on her computer, and I stay in mine, in between we rarely meet. I do my social media, she does hers. I'm a happy camper. One funny thing though, we sit about 5 feet apart in the living room, and at times, we will text each other. Usually to harass each other.
  19. I guess this is another example of many where RCCL doesn't "always" enforce its own policies. However, I do believe that it is prudent to know them, that's why I post them often. Knowledge is a good thing, ignorance isn't.
  20. There going to have a entrance charge to get into Sorrento's. LOL
  21. Oops, we have been on the Independence. Don't know what class it was. It was almost as big as the Quantum class ships but I didn't like it as much and we were only on it on a 4-night cruise. Really didn't have time to experience the ship to its fullest.
