  1. It does seem that way, which makes me doubt we’ll be going on this cruise. I would like to see mask protocols reinstated on board, and then, for once, to see Princess enforce those protocols. I don’t know (and we won’t know before final payment) if the fact that the Diamond Princess is returning to Japan for the first time might make a difference in how strict they are on board, but, no, frankly, I don’t think things will improve. In fact, with the latest variant, I think they will deteriorate still further. It seems like most people cruising today are resigned to returning home with COVID which might be fine with the previous variant but this new one sounds a bit more harsh.
  2. That’s a different outcome. The portion of cruise fare paid with FCCs is not insurable through PVP. At least that’s the way it used to be.
  3. It would provide a solid answer to the question you are asking. You and your traveling companions who also have insurance would be entitled to 100% of your paid funds back in cash, as opposed to an FCC.
  4. It’s the only way people disillusioned with a post-pandemic Princess will even bother to book anything and by doing so, keep a (pinky finger tip) still in the pot. We’ve booked 43 days to and around Japan next winter for $4 total. We’ve never taken advantage of $1 deposit sales in the past as we’ve always had dozens of FCDS each but those days are no longer. As for actually sailing, if things are as they were in the past we would definitely be on that ship. If we don’t sail, it will only be because we have read of no improvement in Princess’s treatment of passengers infected with COVID due primarily to lax protocols on board. No, we’re not tying up cabins on several ships just until we make a decision. We are tying up one cabin on a B2B cruise in the hopes that things change enough for us to feel comfortable on the Diamond Princess, the original COVID ship. And our first final payment is due October 15. It’s really not looking good right now.
  5. I think I’ve seen this episode before. 😆 OP, I went through another version on this on a cruise to Hawaii when my husband tested positive, went to Ruby Princess mail and wanted me off the ship. I paid $873 plus $1600 for a flight home. I was only able to disembark because I tested negative the morning we arrived in Honolulu. They were adamant that my husband could not disembark. It was enough to sour me on Princess for quite a while. I’m sorry you’ve experienced something similar.
  6. I am very sorry you’ve gone through what sounds like, from every analysis possible, a most difficult situation. I applaud you for handling things as well as you did in the moment, and for documenting it so clearly here for others to learn from. I wish your aunt a full and speedy recovery, and many more wonderful cruises in the future. Ignore the naysayers and cheerleaders and Monday morning quarterbacks on this board. Ignore them. They love nothing more than to feed on the misfortune of others and your sad circumstances have given them much fodder. Please do keep us updated on your aunt’s condition if it seems appropriate.
  7. I’m not sure it’s the same cruise. The February 12, 2023 Diamond Princess cruise goes directly from Hawaii to Guam and Saipan (part of the reason we are interested in going ). I don’t believe it goes to French Polynesia (unless something has changed, which is entirely possible). Thank you for the Google Translate suggestion. I am just trying to gauge our interest in the ports in Japan and was hoping that the excursions would easily help us to do that. Like so many things with Princess these days, we really shouldn’t have to work so hard to give them our money. Maybe there is a message here.
  8. We are currently booked on the Diamond Princess transpacific to Yokohama next February, followed by B2B cruises around Japan. For many reasons, we are very undecided about taking these cruises, and I was trying to get some information on the ports by looking at the shore excursions in the Cruise Personalizer. Unfortunately, they’re all in Japanese. Has anyone else encountered this, or know if they will eventually be translated to English?
  9. I (and my lower back) like a very firm mattress. A board under the mattress seldom provides the support I am looking for. When the mattress is particularly soft (some of Princess’s are like marshmallows), I have the board put on top the mattress, topped with a comforter, then made up with sheets.
  10. This was the story of my 2020 and 2021 relationship with Princess. On board COVID treatment is the story of my 2022 relationship with them. Any wonder why I’m not lining up to sail again anytime soon? They exhaust me. But I am adding two more 2023 cruises with the $1 deposit sale. We’ll then have $6 on deposit with Princess. That’s as high as I’ll go, and we used to have more than 50 FCDs each on deposit (but- little known fact- only 50 show at any point in time in the Captains Circle account).
  11. Thank you for this. I would love to know what percentage of these “best booking volumes” are being deposited and paid for with non-refundable FCCs.
