  1. Even easier to pack than cough syrup are Dextromethorphan tablets which do the same thing. In fact, I just bought a bottle of generic Dextromethorphan with Guaifenesin on Amazon, because generally if I need something for cough I have chest congestion also. We’re taking that, Sudafed, an antihistamine and Ibuprofen to cover all bases, and shoving as many test kits into the suitcase as space allows.
  2. It was discussed here a few months ago with a few people agreeing that they had gotten this info from HGM or someone who should know. I’m still a little salty about it, considering how much time I’ve spent over the years singing crew praises on the survey, but usually at least a week after we disembarked.
  3. But only if you complete the survey within 48 hours or so. Otherwise, the crew mentions are disregarded, which is ludicrous and disrespectful to crew and guests alike. As for additional tips, our rule of thumb on 10-night cruises which we did a lot of for years was an extra $10 per day for each of us spread among steward, waiters, head waiter and bar staff. If we were doing a series of B2B cruises, I only distributed extra tips every second cruise, because I wrote a thank you each time for each person, highlighting something special they had done, and that takes a lot of time. Laundry personnel always got a thank you note and a huge bag of snack sized candy, usually M&Ms, before we disembarked at the end. I’m sure that was more than some, less than others but it felt right to us and I believe that, in the end, the crew knew how much they meant to our vacation and that they were much appreciated.
  4. That farewell dinner came around mighty fast, didn’t it? I’m still enjoying word you’re writing, and thanks again.
  5. I went by the bank yesterday and got $50 in $1s for drink tips, which I was then seriously reconsidering because do you know how thick 50 bills are? But I think I’ll take them just to avoid the GS lines.
  6. I used to get Clinique’s Take the Day Off makeup remover on board. It was cheaper than on land to start with, but with the Elite discount it was even less expensive. Then I realized if I just stay home in December instead of cruising, most land based retailers offer a sale on it for the holiday. So that’s what I do now. But I have to imagine that MedallionNet WiFi has cut into their retail sales on board since comparison shopping is so easy.
  7. My request was denied also. I wanted to disembark in Grand Cayman. Unfortunately, the reason I wanted to no longer exists, but I haven’t heard any tire deviations approved recently.
  8. Exactly. The owners suites on the Pacific and Ocean Princess had two commodes. And I recall 20 years ago there were some Celebrity suites that had the same. We took one cruise in the past few years (right after the start up) that had no single supplement, and booked side by side balcony cabins. Two full bathrooms were heaven, and, after way many years of marriage, it felt slightly scandalous to ask, “Your place or mine?” every night. 😆
  9. I’m not sure you’ve cruised on Princess before but 5pm is probably the best time to dine if you are determined to get to the early show. They usually begin about 7:30pm and the Princess Theater (assuming you’re not on the Sun Princess) is significantly undersized. You would need to be there and seated by 7pm, even earlier for a production show. 5pm is perfect so that you don’t have to rush through your meal.
  10. No, no milestones any longer. They offer the suite breakfast if you’re first most travelled…or at least they used to. We’ve been lucky to get it two or three times and it’s a wonderful perk, but, unless you have over 2000 days, the chances of being first are very small. We don’t book suites either. It would be a waste for us, though what I wouldn’t give for a second bathroom…
  11. Hello! G and I wish you Bon Voyage! As for cruise cards…well, you’ve met him, so this won’t be a surprise. He punched holes in ours and fed them onto two 4” binder rings. They are both fully loaded. And every time I start mentioning new appliances and countertops, he jingles them like pom poms and asks “And how many countries have you been to?” 😆
  12. Wait…what’s the difference between the website personalizer and the web version?
  13. Yeah, what is that about? I’ve never not gotten that one.
  14. I don’t see sailing on the Sun Princess in our near (or distant) future, but I am sure enjoying your live from and pics. Thanks for bringing us along.
  15. Has anyone had a recent PVP claim for CFAR? if so, how long did it take to receive the FCCs for the cancellation penalty in your Captains Circle account? We received a letter from Aon four weeks ago saying the claim was being sent to Princess. Princess says they haven’t received it, and even if they had seen it, it’s taking “much longer than a month” (their words) to issue the FCC. Aon says there’s nothing for Princess to receive and that they have all they need. I filed several CFAR claims last year without issue, and had FCCs in a couple of weeks. Hoping to apply this FCC to a future cruise a month from now.
  16. Almost flawlessly for us. We had one cruise where I received the notification from Stockperks that the OBC had been added to our booking and it didn’t show up for 3 days. I forwarded their email to the Princess stock benefit email and had it applied in an hour. Recently we’ve had several final payments, and I submitted the applications and had the OBC in less than 12 hours.
  17. Agree completely. And guests have every right to book a cruise at a higher fare, hold it with a refundable deposit, and cancel if plans change before final payment. To do so is hardly unfair to Princess. If Princess was concerned, they could make all deposits nonrefundable and/or stop FCDs and $99 deposit promotions (and, even more, $1 deposit promotions).
  18. People pay a premium to have a choice. I don’t see how that is unfair to the cruise lines. Besides, the cruise lines set the rules. If they are unhappy, they can certainly change their policies. It’s the same with group space. TA’s are allowed to book group space, theoretically for 7 cabins, lock in an advantageous price and then sell only one or two cabins. It happens all the time. That seems intrinsically more unfair, and yet the cruise lines tolerate (actually, encourage) that. Years ago I saw a CLIA article that said the average cruise ship cabin turned over seven times prior to sailing. I suspect that has dropped, and the cruise lines are securing higher fares for the privilege of doing something that used to be free. Hardly unfair at all.
  19. That is just crazy, unless it’s the cleanup fee. That I could understand.
