  1. Well I guess that brings up another question...babies are unpredictable, as is the custody schedule for this little one...what if, when the time comes, the baby stays home? She is on kids sail free, so would there be any losses there if she just doesn't show up? And only the three adults sail?
  2. Thank you so much!! If it was the most effective way to save money then we can be content with that. I appreciate your help untangling this!
  3. Okay, so no matter what, if you cancel or eliminate one room you lose at least $500 since every room requires at least a $500 deposit on it, even if there is only one person in it? I had trouble understanding the man, but he did say it was best to cancel the reservation with the two adults with a deposit of $500, rather than cancelling the reservation with the two adults and baby with a $750 deposit. I guess if he had cancelled that room we'd have lost $750? Although if that's the case it sounds like you lose deposits per PERSON and not per ROOM. It's so confusing. We just wanted to go down to one room to save money overall, which I think we did, since the original two rooms were $5800 (four adults, one baby) and now just the one room is $4300 (three adults, one baby). On paper that saves $1500, and in actuality it saves $1000 due to losing the $500 non refundable deposit. Was there any way of minimizing that loss and still saving money? I mean we definitely wanted to remove the one adult and in doing so we were able to consolidate to one room so that seemed our only course of action, but we are new at this and the man was hard to understand and our final payment is due soon so we didn't know how to handle it.
  4. I"m not sure how to answer the questions, the terminology may be off. As I said, we had two rooms, and then we consolidated to one room, and also removed one adult from the reservation. They told us this would incur losing a $500 deposit. This has already been done. If this was done stupidly on our part, is there any fixing it? P.S. The two original rooms together were $5800 and the new one room is $4300 so we didn't want to keep the two original rooms since just one was cheaper.
  5. I hope this makes sense. I'm not familiar with how Royal does things. Please note final payment is due in two weeks so it has NOT been paid yet. Okay, we had two connecting rooms with two adults in room A and two adults and a baby in room B, both ocean view balconies. One adult can't go now so we consolidated to ONE room, Room C-- which is another ocean view balcony except it's a quad (Rooms A and B were not quads so we couldn't use either), and Royal said we'd lose $500 due to having a non refundable deposit. Originally we paid $250 deposit on ALL FIVE PEOPLE (baby included) so that was $1250, and as I said now one adult is not coming. So...are we out $500 instead of just $250 for the one adult ***because it's an entire room we cancelled***? If we had simply removed one adult but still kept both original rooms would we have just lost $250 for that one adult? Trying to figure out why they are keeping $500 instead of just $250 since we only took off one adult. After making this change no money was needed (except the final payment being due soon, but no additional deposits or anything were needed). When I look at the latest invoice it shows a paid deposit of $250 for the three remaining adults and the one baby, PLUS it shows an additional $500 deposit for one of the remaining adults (so basically it shows one adult as having been charged a total of $750 in deposits). I'm wondering if that additional $500 is actually the non refundable deposit we lost and they've just worded it poorly by showing it as a deposit on one of the adults. I'm a little confused on how we could have lost $500 by consolidating to one room, yet they didn't ask for more money. In fact our bill shows we have ALREADY PAID $1500 in deposits on the now four people, but originally we had only paid $1250 on the original five people! Also baby got kids sail free applied to her sometime AFTER initial deposits and BEFORE consolidating got one room. Can anyone make sense of this? I tried really hard with Royal yesterday to make sense of things but couldn't, and I was on hold for two hours before I even got someone on the line so the thought of calling back is not fun.
  6. Our final payment is coming up February 12. Will RC email us telling us it's due? Can we pay by check? if we pay by check do we need to mail it NOW so that it has arrived by February 12? If you miss the deadline do they just cancel your cruise?
  7. How was it? Should you just take your own taxi or should you do the RC excursion? Was the beach super crowded? Was there a steady stream of incoming and outgoing planes? Any other tips or tricks? Thanks!
  8. Any thoughts on this hotel? Sailing out of Miami, not sure if I'm flying into Fort Lauderdale or Miami, so not sure how to get to hotel from airport yet. Any idea the best way to get from this particular hotel to the port? Thanks!
  9. My Harmony will be competing with Independence May 14 :-(.
  10. I'm on Harmony in May and would give anything to be on Wonder sailing out of PC. Miami is proving to be uber expensive and difficult whereas for me PC is cheaper and easier. Harmony also looks very sterile to me and blah (staterooms) but I haven't really looked at Wonder's rooms. Definitely regretting my choice.
  11. Has anyone had experience with the beach on St.. Maarten with the planes flying right overhead? Is that one worth it?
  12. The flights to Miami and Fort Lauderdale are realllllly horrible times and very expensive. How silly would it be to fly into West Palm Beach if leaving out of Port of Miami? Would the savings in the flights be negated by the cost of travel between West Palm Beach Airport and Port of Miami both ways?? We have ten people, too, so one Uber isn't going to cut it. Thanks!
  13. Oh that's interesting! Do you know if it applies to the over the water cabanas or the beach cabanas or any of the others?
  14. No offense taken, but based on your post I thought it best to let others know my post was purely for knowledge and not for cheating the system. We do have more than eight people, yes, and were wondering if it was a SPECIFIC eight, or if it was more like only eight people could be in it at one time so people could trade off. There's no water park perk with these, just a cabana. I appreciate the intel! Think we'll skip this as we can't afford two and can't choose between our large party as to who gets to be part of the special eight, either. Ah well!
  15. Hopefully no need for any poor responses. I honestly do not know how this works and was looking for the answer here! If it's eight specific people then it's eight specific people and that is that. Not looking to cheat RC, just looking to see how it all works (have only cruised once in my life). Thank you!
  16. The subject line says it all...can a larger group book an eight person cabana and then just take turns using it, or do the same eight people need to use it all day? Thanks!
  17. Hi, so we have several ocean view balcony rooms on Harmony. Final payment is due mid February. Thinking of switching some of the people to interior rooms to save money. Is it as simple as calling and switching from balcony to interior?? It will be a lot cheaper, correct? Will there be penalties or anything? Thanks!
  18. Is there any way of making sure others don't steal your bag? Do you have to show ID before taking it or anything?
  19. Could someone explain more about this 'no show' option? We have a case of a break up in our party that may or may not last... I assume putting the adult son in with the parents and canceling his whole room makes more financial sense than leaving the reservation as is (two person ocean balcony, Harmony) and the girlfriend no showing, correct? Are there any penalties for no showing?? What do you say?
  20. They told me I could just ask my steward to SWITCH the bed and the couch in any balcony room (Oasis class)!!! I was calling to make sure any room I booked would have the bed next to the bathroom. You canNOT just switch those!!! The room is physically SHORTER where the couch is, it would never ever work. I don't have much confidence in anything the reps tell people when they call. I think they just want to give you what you want to hear and get you off the phone.
  21. How do you look at current sailings on the app? I can only see my own upcoming sailing on my own ship. Please help!
  22. What is most surprising to me is that your 95 year old mother knows how to take a picture and send it to you on her phone!!! My mother, in her eighties, doesn't even HAVE a cell phone, OR a computer, OR internet (so no Netflix or other streaming). Huge kudos to your mom for being so techy!!
  23. Are all of these November 18 refunds people are waiting for actual refunds for previously booked things, or are they the infamous 'pending' charges when RC wouldn't accept anyone's credit card, which then for whatever reason ended up turning into real charges that need to be refunded?
  24. Are refundable deposit cruises more money? How much, typically?
