Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Oh gosh. I’m on the Cloud in 2025. Now I’m getting really scared.
  2. the only reason I attended afternoon tea twice was so I could actually taste what they were serving! I assumed there must have been an error the first time or that since it was a table of solo travellers they just didn’t bother to give us a second tray.
  3. I did a week long trip to Alaska. There were “lectures” daily but honestly they were very superficial and mainly had the cruise director chatting between showing clips. what does you husband normally do during HAL cruises if you two have managed to obtain 5 star status?
  4. Hopping on this thread to ask another Antarctica question. It is clear that a parka is provided but I am finding conflicting information regarding boots. Some sites say you need to bring or rent your own pair but then other websites including the Silversea blog (with a post from a few months ago) state boots are provided. if boots aren’t provided, is it possible to use on-board credit to pay for boot rentals?
  5. The library looks beautiful! I might spend the week there
  6. Darn. I was hoping they’d know it was prepaid and treat me extra nice 🤣
  7. Do they know if someone pre-pays the gratuity?
  8. Yikes! I’m boarding the ship Sunday and don’t have a room assigned yet either. I wasn’t worried initially cause there’s only 8-10 cabins in the F class but not having an assignment till getting to the pier is just stressful!
  9. I bought a guaranteed ocean view for an April 30 sailing. It’s April 24 and still no room assigned.
  10. I almost wonder if I should fill a box of bubbly with pop and just put bubbly on the top layer to avoid suspicion 🤣
  11. Tacking on to this question, the website says: “Items such as sodas, energy drinks or other non-alcoholic items are not allowed on board in any form. Plastic water bottles are not allowed. However, an allowance of six liters, twelve (12) cans or cartons (500 ml in volume or less) or six (6) cans or cartons (1 liter in volume or less) of water are allowed per stateroom. Any amount in excess of this allowance will be not be allowed onboard. Water in plastic bottles will not be allowed onboard in any quantity, including in ports of call. Guests will be asked to discard open beverages in plastic containers prior to boarding. ” does this mean I can bring on flavoured sparkling water? For instance, a 12 pack of Bubly/La Croix or something similar?
  12. “Saunders admits the clock uses two electric motors — one to wind it up and another to ventilate it. He says it did once use a steam-powered motor, but it only lasted 10 years before breaking down. He says steam does prompt the clock's signature whistle.” https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/revered-and-reviled-the-gastown-steam-clock-turns-40-1.4299839
  13. “The Gastown steam clock was built in 1977. While it was once a fully fledged steam clock, it was converted to run off of an electric motor in the 1980s, originally intended to only serve as a backup.” https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/gastown-steam-clock-fixed
  14. It’s actually not steam powered. It’s been electric since the mid 80’s.
  15. Is it worthwhile to pack a pair of shorts for early May or is it likely to be a waste of space?
