  1. Good morning and Happy Tuesday. It’s a bright sunshiny day. Yesterday DM had a dental appointment and always takes antibiotics prior to the appointment. Somehow the home health must have discarded what she had left and she called the dentist office. They wanted her to come in Asap to take it there so that was a scramble to get ready quickly and pick her up. I ended up running errands since the wait was longer. We went to lunch at a seafood restaurant because we wanted lobster but I was also craving meat so ordered surf and turf with a filet as the turf. What came was not edible and not a filet. After alerting our server the manager came over and said he inspects all the beef each day, and even though he never said it I knew he didn’t believe me nor think I knew what I was talking about. I was beyond irritated. Goodness, it wasn’t even cut like a filet. After offers of a new steak I just asked for the steak charge to be taken off. Turns out they couldn’t do that so we ended up getting the entire entree taken off. Then, a new steak shows up, and it’s a filet! Soft as butter and cooked perfectly. We packaged it up and I’m having it for lunch today. I am still ticked off about the whole thing. I’m going to write the restaurant and tell them that this manager not only needs better customer service skills but needs to go to cooking school and learn more about cuts of meat. Okay, sorry, off my soapbox. I hope everyone has a great day!
  2. Pennie, the doctor I worked for was also a plastic surgeon. She was excellent with earlobe repair, ones like yours and also the large ring holes (lol, I can’t remember the name!). She charged $500 per ear after a $50 consult but that was 8 years ago. Whoever does the repair make sure they actually cut both sides before suturing it. You have to wait a bit before you can have it re pierced. I remember a young man having both earlobes repaired after having the large ear holes because he was going into the military.
  3. Good evening. We had a nice time with family this afternoon. The pizza was delicious. Craig was taking the picture. My DM loves her wine. @XBGuy, I enjoyed reading about Stags Leap and find it interesting that after all that hoopla over a name they became friends.
  4. I’ve been to the Phillips Plaza one but it was a long time ago. The Rillito is run by the same as the Udall one. I keep forgetting about the Udall one. I need to check it out. It’s on Fridays. Take it easy though and don’t overdo. You don’t want a setback. @1ANGELCAT, thoughts and prayers for your friend and her family. It has to be difficult when the family member doesn’t trust the process.
  5. Pennie, so glad to hear that you are improving. Bummer on the things taken from your patio and laundry. Once when we were in a townhouse with shared outside laundry I had left my quarters to run inside for something and poof they were taken. I think the steps you are taking sound good to secure it all. Which farmers market do you go to? There are none near us. We’ve gone to the one in Rincon Valley but I hate that drive because of all the bicyclists. It’s not so bad on a weekday but weekends are busy.
  6. Good morning and Happy Sunday. The ice didn’t break yesterday and probably won’t for a bit because the forecast is just for the low to mid 90’s for the next ten days. Today we are taking our DD and her SO out for pizza along with her DS, our DGS, and my DM. This is to celebrate their birthdays and Mother’s Day that we missed. It should be fun. Not much else happening. I make a salmon bowl occasionally and I think I’ve posted the recipe before but here it is again. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/salmon-and-veggie-grain-bowl-3409067 It uses faro instead of rice which I think makes it much better. You can use any grain you like or cauliflower rice like Debbie @dfishsuggested. Have a great day everyone!
  7. Good morning and Happy Saturday. It’s going to be a warm day. I love it like this. Lots to celebrate today and the quote sounds just like Joan Rivers. I like tarragon and try to grow my own but I’ve never had it with asparagus. The dressings all look good Debbie @dfish. BTW, good luck with your patio furniture! I’d be pulling my hair out. Happy Anniversary to @Norseh2o! I remember that you were married in Tucson just about 7 months before us. 1974 was a great year. I am going to make some no knead bread today for Craig to take next week to the White Mountains. He’s visiting his siblings and I hate the drive, the Salt River Canyon just freaks me out. I always make something for them since I don’t go. I hope they understand but I really think they think I’m crazy. I guess I am just a bit. He’s taking the new vehicle, hopefully it will pass the highway test. Have a great day everyone!
  8. I don’t think it’s sold out. I found plenty of inside cabins available. It just took forever to check on my phone. I’m going to look again this weekend. I also didn’t see much difference between inside and ocean view but that was with the single supplement.
  9. Roy, you might try Tegaderm bandages. They are just like the ones used when you get an IV and are waterproof. The blood will pool up underneath and you would change it if that happens but technically they last 6-7 days. They have saved many of my scrapes. I’m nursing one now on my forearm caused by my dog being over anxious seeing someone in our backyard. I have thin skin on my forearms unfortunately. I buy them at Target but I’m sure they are available elsewhere.
  10. I was finally able to read Tuesday’s Daily and missed Dixie @summer slopeand George’s anniversary. So belated wishes to you two! I also read about the horrible day you had Annie @marshhawk I am so sorry. It seems getting doctors to talk to us is getting more difficult. I’m not surprised that Chuck didn’t remember anything. That anesthesia is brutal. Many hugs to you. Also your kittens sound adorable. I would love pictures!
  11. Elizabeth, I have never had them but worked for a doctor who did them and also tear duct surgery. There are temporary, dissolvable plugs that you can try first. They last about 3-4 days and give you an idea of how the permanent ones will work for you. Ask around, they are available. I find it interesting that the doctor hasn’t offered that suggestion. Also the plugs are a good option especially if you are using lots of artificial tears because just like most things you can have a rebound effect from using too many. From my 10 year experience most people benefited from them. Even the office manager had them.
  12. I didn’t get online yesterday, it seems like I am an every other day poster. Anyway, I missed some celebrations. So belated wishes to: Bruce & Sue @aliaschief & @DWAliaschief!! Your anniversary celebration sounds like it was wonderful. Carolyn @Cruising-along, Happy Birthday to your DGS! Your excursion to the water park sounds fun.
  13. Good morning and Happy Friday. It’s definitely late spring here with everyday in the 90’s. Tomorrow is supposed to be 97. I bought another basil plant to add to one that looked sad. Now it looks full and wonderful and happy. I can probably start using my two basil plants now. The rosemary and oregano are small but doing well. I was worried about planting so late but they are doing good. I still want some tarragon and thyme. The mint always springs back but the bugs like it for some reason. It’s in a pot so it doesn’t take over. I also have a tiny chive plant that comes back every year. Pinot Grigio is my second request if Sauvignon Blanc isn’t available. My DGD bought me a bottle for Mother’s Day. Taking DM to an appointment this morning. Not sure where we will have lunch but it will definitely be somewhere with wine. Have a great day everyone!
  14. Good morning and Happy Wednesday. It’s already a lovely sunshiny day and starting Friday it will be in the 90’s, probably for good. Wonder when the ice will break. That’s when we hit 100 for the first time. It’s nice to have my regular coffee today with cream after not having it for two days. The yucky colonoscopy is done now but the doctor scolded me about waiting so long and wants me back on a 5 year schedule. I’m not sure why that happened but as I thought about it I think it was the pandemic so I just skipped it. I would like the lemon blueberry cake but would use all real ingredients. I’m big on using the real thing and eating it in moderation. I think it’s healthier. Debbie I like the look of the first two recipes. We were supposed to call on Athens in 2001 but a transportation strike stopped us and we went to Potmos instead. Pennie @Nickelpenny, I was saddened to hear that you are in so much pain. My thoughts are with you. Can I help with anything? Carol @mamaofami, so good to hear from you! Jacqui @kazu, thinking of you and hoping your foot heals soon. Annie @marshhawk, prayers and thoughts with you and Chuck. Have a great day everyone!
  15. I totally forgot about croutons and hummus! I love both. I don’t like the store bought ones that are in a bag. I really like restaurant ones and homemade. The best hummus I’ve had was homemade with fresh chick peas and eaten right away still slightly warm. I think I might make some later in the week. It makes a lot and I’ve actually frozen half quite successfully. All this talk of food is making me hungry!
  16. Good morning and Happy Monday. Welcome back Rich @richwmn! I had a good Bloody Mary last week at Magnolia Table, spiced just right. It went very well with their version of eggs Benedict. A biscuit bottom and pepper bacon. Bloody Mary’s are my vacation/flight drink. I don’t have them very often because they are very filling. I have eaten a few veggie burgers but prefer beef too. I have to pass on one today because I’m starting my colonoscopy prep. Gaspe was a port of call on one of my cruises but was canceled. Thinking of Pennie today @Nickelpenny! Yesterday’s lunch was nice but I think we will go out to eat next Mother’s Day. Also for there were too many people. DM’s 97 year old friend had invited 4 people, including her daughter, and none of us were expecting that to happen. Have a great day everyone!
  17. Good morning and Happy Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day also! I got back from Waco a few days ago. I had a really great time with my ladies group friends. It stormed a few times while I was there and I have never heard thunder quite that loud, it was very close. I never had to wear my sunglasses due to the overcast. It was actually quite nice since I was expecting it to be hot and sticky from the humidity. I’ll share a few pictures. There were magnolias everywhere. Very pretty. Yesterday DM had an appointment, unusual for a Saturday, and we went to lunch afterward. I splurged and got prime rib, yum. Today we are going over to her center for the Mother’s Day buffet but I’m going to eat light because of my colonoscopy on Tuesday. DM is feeling so much better but still has a cough and wears out easily. One day at a time! @1ANGELCAT, I am so sorry about Houdini. Pennie @Nickelpenny, best wishes for your surgery tomorrow. It sounds like you have everything very organized and ready for your recovery at home. If you need anything please let me know. Have a great day everyone!
  18. Good afternoon from Waco! I wanted my friends to know that I arrived safely yesterday and we had a wonderful day eating and touring and shopping at Magnolia. Tonight we are going to the 1928 Hotel for dinner. I hope everyone is doing well.
  19. Good evening. Been busy getting ready for my trip and leave tomorrow. Hopefully the storms will wait until I arrive. I probably won’t be able to post while I’m gone. We have been to Juneau many times. This is from September 2021, one of the first cruises after the restart , on the Nieuw Amsterdam. I really love that ship.
  20. Good morning and Happy Monday. Wow on those tornadoes and so sad for the loss of lives. I’m anxious about flying on Thursday because of this. I’m not usually an anxious flyer. All good days to celebrate today. The salad recipes look good and thank you Tina @0106, I think I would prefer your recipe too. Roy @rafinmd, thank you for your timeline. I was an early member of CC and the HAL board, May 12, 2000. It’s a long story but the DD host Walt posted a lot on an AOL travel board for HAL that I hosted. AOL was shutting down their boards and Walt suggested that I join CC which I did. I didn’t post much but did join some M&G’s and even did one myself in 2001. I don’t remember anything like the Fleet Report back then. I didn’t check CC very often, just mostly when I was planning and going on a cruise. I became more active in February 2020 when the rumors started about covid and a possible shutdown. I was interested in what was going to happen and I had a cruise planned for May 2020. That is why I started reading the FR daily and I sure am happy that I did. I not only have met some delightful people who have become friends but also enjoyed the community we have become. There is nothing like it anywhere else. Have a great day everyone!
  21. Good afternoon and Happy Sunday. The weather is nice but a bit breezy. I went for an early pedicure and then errands and got home about an hour ago. I’m really not ready for my trip so need to step it up. I spoke with DM when I got home and she sounds so much better and is actually going to the dining room to pick up her meals. She is still weak but not as much as a few days ago. I think she got her fight back. I would like the second recipe but today we are having an antipasti platter. I decided something easy needed to happen. I went to a different grocery store than I usually do just to get Boar’s Head mortadella and prosciutto. I hate their parking lot and since our vehicle is only 2 weeks old have been parking out in the boondocks. I will pass on the drink and wine. And I have never been to Japan but those pictures are sure drawing my interest. Have a great day everyone!
  22. I have ordered these several different times for different cruises, mostly for get togethers with cruise friends. Done very well. I preorder from home to arrive on embarkation and I refrigerate them when we get to the room. If I get several trays I put them all on one so they fit. The pate mousse is good and there is a shrimp one and cheese, usually Brie, too. Here’s an example:
