  1. Need all information about getting a Uber at IAH to Seawall hotel, where is the pick up ouside Delta baggage pick up area and if they are reliable. Same info needed for picking up at cruise port to IAH, where is pick up and reliabilty.  If a porter can drop you at the pick up area or is a tram is needed to take you to a remote area.

IAH is a huge airport. There are 5 terminals. Let's hope they stop at each airline. This is one of the reasons to use HOU (Hobby) if at all possible. HOU is also at least 30 minutes closer to Galveston.

That's the reason I am asking for some 1st hand knowledge. Several years ago we had bad experiences with cruise line drop offs. Once after an excursion with airline drop off all the luggage was taken on a separate truck and dropped in one spot outside with no supervision.  We had one heck of a time getting someone to help get us to another terminal with all our luggage. Another time we were dropped at some side door and they said "this is it".  I had to walk a long way to get a luggage cart and then try to figure out where our check in was. We are at an age now that we need to get it figured out before hand & I usually get a wheelchair for DH to get to the gate.  Delta doesn't fly nonstop to Hobby.

  3. Sailing on Harmony next year out of Galveston. Those that have purchased a departure transfer from Royal to IAH I have some questions. Does the bus stop at each airlines entrance for departures. If not we would be flying on Delta where would we be dropped and how far would we have to walk & drag out luggage to get to the airline check in and bag drop check in.

Perhaps this might help, search for cruisedeckplan.com. Click on the cruise ship icon top left and choose your ship then deck.  Some cabins have a you tube video of the cabin, maybe you can figure out from there.

I always do this and never pick a cabin I have not seen the layout.  There is a small fee, less than $10 for a 1 or 2 year membership, to view the photo's but it is worth every penny.

I'm more worried about the non-refundable deposits.

I like to book about a year out always choose a refundable deposit on a Junior Suite. At our age and with some slight health issues you never know what will happen.  So if we have to cancel for a health reason are we out the deposit refund? We'll have to rethink this.

I emailed our request 2 weeks prior to our recent Odyssey cruise and never heard back. I went to the MDR when we boarded and found that they did already have my request and that everything was set just as I had requested.

I wish they would reply as it would be a whole lot less stressful for the customer, only takes a minute to do, and zero cost to send an email. Also good customer relations. Hope everyone here gets their dining requests honored.

I'm hoping that is the case.

From Elizabeth Uber will be very available-- no need to preschedule a car service unless you want to.

Your 7:30 departure time is fine-- you will most likely get there with plenty of time to grab some coffee but it will also ensure that even if you hit a lot of traffic your tour won't be impacted. In likelihood you could leave around 8:15 and still make it but I would do the same as you and buffer it by 45 minutes if 9:30 is a hard start time, which it sounds like it is.

Oh thank you feeling much better now. Our tour starts at 10 but it is requested to be there at 9:30.

You should be fine, my husband just took an Uber at 4:30 am to Newark airport. You can also arrange car service. Taxi cabs can’t take passengers back and forth to the city so not a good option. We live 10 miles west of Manhattan, when my husband took the bus to work in midtown he gave himself a solid hour.

Do you have the name of the car service?

Your plan is probably the worst imaginable: a weekday morning during rush hour, and instead of being able to use the contraflow bus lane to bypass all the traffic queued up to enter the Lincoln Tunnel, you may be stationary within that traffic. Times do vary from day-to-day, but typically you could expect the trip to take between 45 minutes and one and one-half hour. No wonder why most people travel to midtown in rush hour by train or bus. Assuming that you would want to arrive before 9:00 a.m., so that you can find your precise meeting point, then you might want to plan on leaving your hotel between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. You might need to allow more time if you're making the taxi or TNC arrangement at the time given that some drivers may not want to get stuck in that traffic for so long (and also be prepared to pay double, so the driver can return empty back to New Jersey, plus $14.75 for the tunnel toll). In sum, it may be a long and expensive trip by taxi or TNC.

You might want to consider traveling on the bus direct to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, one block west of Times Square. There's a bus stop on North Avenue, just east of U.S. routes 1 and 9, a short 2-mile taxi ride from your hotel. Buses on New Jersey Transit bus route 112 travel non-stop from that location to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Departing at approximately 8:07 a.m., the bus is scheduled to arrive in New York at 8:41 a.m. The fare for seniors is $3.20. On the way back, you might travel on New Jersey Transit bus route 111, which travels directly from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to your hotel in Elizabeth, or bus route 115, which on some trips travels directly from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to the Jersey Gardens Mall, across the street from your hotel in Elizabeth. The last route 111 bus departs New York at 4:15 p.m., route 115 buses depart New York at 9:00 p.m., 10:30 p.m., and 11:50 p.m. Otherwise, route 112 buses return regularly from New York to North Avenue.

The bus sounds like too much for us. DH has a slight mobility issue so we will have to use taxi or Uber. Do you think we will have a problem getting a Uber at 7-730?

The train/tram you are referring to is the monorail called 'air train'. It is free to ride between terminals. All hotel shuttles meet guests at station P4 of the air train. It is not an imposition to use if you decide not to use taxi/Uber.

We just don't want to have haul 2 large suitcases and 2 carry ons, DH has a mobility issue so the less walking & hauling the better.
