  1. We are arriving EWR airport and staying at Embassy Suites, Elizabeth, NJ. I understand Embassy Suites has a shuttle but you need to take a airport train/tram to another location for pick up.  What are the other options for transportation to the hotel that would not require us to take a train or tram?  Is there taxi or Uber pick up right outside from the baggage area.  We are seniors and would like to not have to schlep our bags to another location.

Without knowing how disabled he is, hard to even say or how fussy you are about hotels.

The la quinta up near 21st and seawall was a do not book again. No elevator, and I had bugs and issues. .. even the Hilton I know folks who wouldnt stay there, smells they said.

Email me. My email is in my signature. Hard to know what you expect. My cheap miami hotel march 11 before bella1 was much nicer than many hotels in Galveston and cost less or the same. I was pleasantly surprised.  Galveston is older and less glitz and glam. But you can see the ocean.

Thanks I'll email you at a later date. Have a great time.

I'm so happy it passed me by this cruise, tomorrow I leave for Galveston for radiance. Too close together but just this one time. Last radiance and rcl cruise going to Panama and Columbia so I made a exception to booking so close together.

Will you be posting a live review? I'm looking for info about cruising out of Galveston. We don't cruise until next year but it doesn't hurt to start checking now. We'll be flying into Houston, need transportation to Galveston, recommendations for hotel for 2 nights near CVS, grocery store misc for seniors. Things to do or see for one day pre cruise. DH has a slight walking disability.

We did Panama & Columbia on NCL a few years ago we loved it. Have a great cruise!

  4. No Studio B, the venue 270 had very poor seating never enough room for the activities they held in there, there is a Esplanade but I'm partial to the Royal Promenade. Not a fan of the 4 closed in dining rooms, again partial to the elegant 3 level dining rooms of the other classes of ships.  But stiil a beautiful ship and we had a great time.

Lyft drivers are able to drop off and pick up at cruise terminal.  So, yes, they pull in wherever pier workers direct them to drop off bags by the porters.

I do not know much about Uber, but I know for sure they cannot pick up at the terminal.  As for dropping off, your comment is in line with them not being able to drop off at the cruise terminal either.

Thank you I'll make a note to use Lyft if the hotel we stay at doesn't have a shuttle.

my understanding is Lyft drops and picks up right there at the pier/cruise terminal

Do you mean dropping right by the porters? On one of our cruises the uber driver dropped us about a half a block away from the porters I believe he didn't want to get in the traffic back up. We then had to drag our bags to the porter area.

Yes, Lyft has a contract and is willing to pay the terminal fees.  Uber is not.  Their pick up is a short walk across the street (I do not know where exactly)

I would like to know where Lyft drops off on embarkation. Two elderly folks dragging luggage a block from porters is not pretty.

As @molly361 said, Wonder 2-2-25.  I would suggest if you really want to join in on the fun don't wait, grab a room now.  With the way Bella 1 is going,  Bella 2 will book up quickly.  I would bet there will be a much larger group next time.  If hesitant,  consider a refundable deposit.

We usually book a JS the 2-2 date is about $600 more than the 1-19 date😬

Traffic shouldn't be too bad. The Ironman events themselves will likely be on the west end of the island, so they shouldn't interfere with your stay. If I didn't have a car, I'd want to stay downtown in The Tremont or Harbor House. If you stay on Seawall, yes there's a trolley. But it's slow and annoying. Some people like it though.

There are tons of tours to be had. Most will originate downtown or on Seawall, so a trolley could get you there. Once it gets closer, check out galveston.com or a similar website for available tours and times. The Duck Tour seems to be a fan favorite. You get on a bus that also doubles as a boat. So you tour around on wheels for a while and see things, and then you drive into the bay and do a little water tour.

Thanks so much for the info. Can you recommend  hotels on the Sewall that would be close to a CVS or store & restaurants. We are late 70's & DH walks with a cane slower than a snail. We would most likely arrive on a Friday afternoon so would only have Saturday to see some sights. Is the trolley like a bus line or a hop on hop off?

The closest you will get to the Las Olas experience is on the Strand.  Its the downtown section of Galveston with a bunch of shops and restaurants.  Either the Harbor House or Tremont House are the best options in that area.

Any grocery store or CVS in that area?

I've read that Uber can not go directly to the Galveston Port.  So where do they drop off/pick up?  Is it easily walkable with luggage?

I read somewhere here on CC that Lyft has some kind of contract with Galveston Port.
