  1. @amanda384 As a heads up, if you look the back of the princess patter where the dinning info is located daily under the Planks / Steamers it will tell you the lunch special they have for the day starting around 11:30 or noon. Daily they switch it up create your own and they'll cook it for you between Ramen Noodle bar. Mongolian Beef Station (Stir Fry). It's a very nice concept. Something to check out. It is where the omlette station is in the morning.

Crew - I think that most all of the crew on board the diamond princess have had to learn Japanese to be able to assist guests at dinner, with the cabins, etc.  The crew seemed super happy to see us each day but not so much with the Japanese guests. I’m not sure if it was just us who they liked or were happy to have some English speakers, since for many of the crew English is their second language, and Japanese is now their third language.   I do not think that the Japanese guests treat the crew very well.  In fact we saw multiple instances throughout our 13 days, where we couldn’t understand what was being said in Japanese to the crew, but it was clear from the way the crew would then turn around and act or look that they had just been spoken down to.  There seems to be a hierarchy in the Asian races and culture where the Japanese think they are at the top and that those from the Philippines and Indonesia (where many of the crew are from) are very much below them.  We were quite disgusted with how the Japanese guests were treating the crew, so we stepped up our niceness  🙂

My biggest pet peeve, especially on ships! That's terrible if the passengers mistreated the crew. Those crew members I have the most respect for on what they do, and now down to them. People are human, and deserve to be treated as one with kindness and respect. I applaud you on your observations and stepping up your niceness. Bring far away from home for months at a time, I've always like to treat the free like family, and they sure do always make me feel like I am.

We are in for the night! A little early but we had a very late night last night.

Dinner was in the Palm Dining Room and it was very good.  Pictures of the menus and some items below.  We are seated with two other couples, random seatmates. That could have gone either way but they seem really fun so far and we have a good deal in common to chat about.  The 9:30 show was comedian Troy Thirdgill. It was a cute show, very benign humor and certainly appropriate for kids. I'm posting a picture of the theater at 9:27 pm, 3 minutes before show time.  As you can see there was still plenty of empty space.

The internet, as Jeter said (Go Yanks, btw!) is insanely fast and always available. Good for me because I like being able to do things like follow the baseball scores, play my little games, etc. And of course, live blog!

We got an invite to the Captain's Circle cocktail reception. We are ruby and I think that is usually just platinum and elite but there are a TON of blue medallions on this sailing so I guess they had to go deeper into the well.

So far no noticeable vibrations and the a/c in our Lido balcony room is great. It was a little warm when we arrived but good now, and I tend to prefer things on the colder side.

Will check in tomorrow during my sea day!

What's the dish above the prime rib? Curious to how cool your AC got, as my cabin was crazy warm when j was onboard. Glad you enjoyed the show last night. On my sailing a few weeks ago it was reported there was over 2,800 blue medallion first timers onboard. It is extremely amazed on the mass quantities of the blue onboard. But then again most ships are not here in the summer months and everyone enjoys going to a beach so that's my thought process.

  4. I've been on both the Royal and Regal a buttload of times. I've never really smelled the smell of smoke on the upper level and like one of the poster says nor have I smelt it in the club 6 as well. And I personally dislike the smell of smoke so I know it would be something I would have noticed if it was predominant or not.

  5. You may be thinking the intranet which is now know as ocean concierge where you type in for example (Caribbean.princess.com) when your login to their Wi-Fi. On there you can pull up the activities for the day and your stateroom account along with other information and you can even purchase future Cruise deposits through it. On there you cannot surf the net if you don't have The Medallion net

Does the Medallion Net allow a user to surf the net? I thought it was a ship specific thing and didn't offer WWW service.

The souffle was amazing. I really love Princess souffles even though I know some people are less than impressed. I wasn't wild about the aioli sauce on the shrimp, but the chateaubriand was delicious!

Your disembarkation lunch menu was a much nicer selection in the one I got a few weeks ago. I'm assuming you're on the Western Caribbean itinerary and not the Eastern. I know they usually alternate their menus based off the  weekly itinerary.

Wow. I wonder who prepared the menu. "Enjoy our Bellini collection prepared by our onboard mixologist's."

(sic) Someone should have done some proofreading. Preferably someone who understands that use of a apostrophe makes "mixologist" possessive rather than plural. Improper use of an apostrophe is a common error in online forums ("menu's" rather than "menus" definitely springs to mind) but this is a menu that was professionally produced. Some care should have been taken to avoid errors of this sort.

They had more than one Bellini in the making of this menu 🙃

I'm handling a book for my in laws and my FIL is a veteran. I know he needs a copy of his discharge papers but what is the process of providing them to Princess? Is there a special email address he needs to send a copy to? How much is the credit? We are doing an 11 night cruise. Thanks in advance.

Here's the link with all the info needed.

  9. No. Should not be a problem at all they play the shows twice in one evening. An earlier show at about 7:15 and then a later show at about 9:15 or 9:45 don't remember the exact time of the second show. The second show a  couple years ago used to be about 10:15, but that was when they were doing a later second seating.

  10. My dad has always worn a jacket to the MDR on formal nights. However on our most recent caribbean cruise 2 weeks ago , he wore it first formal night, then made his usual comment as always I'm how many guys didn't have jackets on (better yet those who just didn't dress appropriately as well) was feeling warm so opted no jacket. He has decided on future cruises no more jacket as he wears a nice a button shirt with tie. My dad has worn one and when he gets to the table he always took it off and placed it in his chair. So once again, do what's comfortable for you.

  11. Ketchikan - bear watching. Deadliest catch. Great Alaskan lumberjack show (fun for an alskan first timer - they do a mini show onboard in the theater where they have pax do an ace throwing competition.)

Juneau - mendenhall glacier trek (includes helicopter ride to glacier). Whale watching

Skagway - helicopter ride to glacier dog sledding. Kroschel Wildlife Animal Rescue Center.
