  1. Can't seem to not include the standard lanyard along with the medallion order on the app. We have our own holders and a bunch of unused lanyards. I wonder if there is a market for those ? 😉 I think Princess could save some money by not handing out lanyards to those who don't need them.

I suppose they could decide not to renew it for the next year, but I tend to doubt it.

I agree. However a change in the OBC amounts or required shares is always possible. Good thing I have those extra ones I bought at near bottom incase they raise the required shares. 😉

Beg to differ…click on your link then either FAQ or T&C. And scroll to question #40

The point is right now is not listed as part of either cruise package. Maybe it was for a time, but not now. I'm done with this. Not worth the effort to to call or chat. Probably would not get a straight answer anyway. All I know is they tried to charge me on a cruise where I have the plus package.

I thought it was in the list you quoted above but I don't see it now.  However, it is in the FAQs:

What’s changing with Princess Plus and Princess Premier?
We’re adding great features to both! Effective 12/14/22 on sailings 2/20/23 and onward, Princess Plus will now include premium desserts, fitness classes and free Medallion® device shipping, while Princess Premier will offer all these, reserved theater seating and a Medallion accessory.

What do you mean by free Medallion® device shipping? How does that work?
You will be receiving a complimentary Medallion device and lanyard as part of your cruise experience. For any guests with a Plus or Premier package, you may order these items delivered to your home (for U.S. guests only) for no extra shipping fees. If you do not have the package, you pay a $10 flat fee to have these delivered to your home. Or you could choose to pick them up at the departure port for no extra fees.

I do not see this in the FAQ but it doesn't surprise me. Princess = consistently inconsistent. Not that $10 it is a big deal in the cost of a cruise but like I said, we have the package and the charge is there. Yet another question for the Oceanfront folks when we are onboard next month.

If you had booked your cruise before the change date in December (the 15th maybe) 2022, and you place your medallion order before 2/20/23, the shipping is free.  After that date, you pay un less you have the new princess plus or premier package.  We have a family cruise in June of 2023 so I ordered the medallions for all the cabins yesterday, no charge.

Really? I do not see anything in the new packages that say they include medallion shipping. I just tried to order medallions on the app for our October cruise and they want to charge for delivery. We are elite and have the plus package on that one. In addition, they don't tell you until the end about the charge and there is no way to go back to select the pick up at port option that I can find. If you don't confirm the order it says it will cancel 12 days from cruise.

    PRINCESS PLUS

    • Princess® dining, accommodations and entertainment
    • MedallionClass® experience
    • Plus Beverage Package
      (drinks up to $15 each)
    • Wi-Fi (1 device per guest)
    • Crew appreciation
    • NEW Premium desserts (2 per day)
    • NEW Fitness classes (2 per cruise)
    • NEW Unlimited juice bar
  6. Or you could look at it from the opposite direction. For the non or occasional alcohol  drinker the the elite mini bar and 50% off WIFI make the packages less of a deal. You can save big by going with the standard rate. Depends on your cruise lifestyle.

Sorry. My brain must have filled it what it did not see. My bad.

Who knows. Things are not final. They may yet add deck names. I hope so. Baja 421 sounds more like a cruise cabin than 11421. That may as well be hotel. I will save my judgements about the ship layout in general until after I have sailed on her, which I hope to do next year. The first of a new class is always a test. They made some changes between Royal and the Regal and my guess is there will also be some between the Sun and the ???.

I apologize if this has been asked and answered, I just don't want to read through the 44 pages.  We cruise next Friday and our medallions are on their way, however, I was notified today we were upgraded from a BE balcony to a deluxe balcony (DB) and was wondering if the medallion will need to be fixed at the port when we check-in or is it done at the passenger services desk after we board?

    Thank you!

No the system "should" update almost immediately and the medallion "should" open the current cabin without effort on your part.

I prefer this straight up 10% discount at time of purchase.

I do also. But I understand why Princess does their bonus as a card that can only be used with them. The expiration date on them could be longer. I had so many and so many refunded back or partial that it was hard to keep track.

If they don't give you one, ask the room steward, often they have some stored away for those who ask.

That worked for us on the Emerald last month.

My DW and I are on the Royal Princess, going on the 15-day cruise to Hawaii out of San Francisco next month.

What Hawaii-themed activities do they have on the Royal on this itinerary?  What are your favorites?  Do any encourage wearing Aloha shirts or other island apparel?

We are looking forward to this cruise and ticking off one more item from our bucket list!

Don't know about this cruise in particular, but on our previous (pre-pandemic) Hawaii cruises they had ukulele and hula lessons along with enrichment lectures. DW  purchased a ukulele to take up some closet space at home 😁. Plus Hawaii themed entertainment and food onboard. At one port they brought a local children's dance group onboard. It was fun.

My apologies!! I've been buying for more than just Princess.  I just paid off a Princess cruise and started working on a Carnival cruise I have booked with grandkids.  Those cards allow 25,,, I just assumed (I know...)

Sorry if I've led anybody astray.  I don't know why Carnival cards would be considered "premium" while Princess are "standard".

No problem, thanks for pointing it out. I have a final payment coming up soon so I bought 5. I don't mind a little work to save $250.

So I haven't booked a guaranteed cabin since probably my first cruise way back when 15 plus years ago.

Just curious if you have many sailings under your belts with princess does that at all give you a better chance of a upgrade of a guaranteed inside cabin to a balcony per stay?

Still waiting to be assigned as is totally goes again my normal way of always booking my midship balcony. However for this random four-day cruise booking I was trying to go as inexpensive as possible considering I also have to fly out to California.

Like you, we have gone away from guaranteed cabins as we learned what we wanted. Years ago we did a lot of cruises that way. with mostly good results, several times to the next cabin type i.e. Oceanview to balcony. The new bid for upgrade process may have changed the landscape on that.

  14. I am élite (in the captain's circles eye anyway). I would not mind the whole program just going to savings on the cruise price. Probably not going to happen, but a simple percentage off, 1% for gold to say 5% to elite? That would be of value to everyone maybe even Princess. It would be a lot easier to mange for them. They might do it as OBC. Not as good IMHO, but better for them. I'm sure they would rather give "savings" that not everyone values or uses like fitness class and deluxe desserts .

can I switch my beverage package to premium non-alcoholic?

It would not be of benefit to you at $47.19. IMHO With the WIFI and crew gratuities the plus cruise package would still be better and includes all the non-alcohol options.

    11 minutes ago, helenb said:

Also, we are Elite on Princess but have not sailed since pre-COVID. I recall having free internet minutes as part of being Elite, but I no longer see that listed in the benefits. Has this changed?

No you get half off so, $7.50 for the one device plan.

    $7.50 + $16.00 + $47.19 = $70.69 PD. I would stick with the plus package if I were you.

I must be missing something because I don't see an option just for an Alcohol package. It's either Plus or Premium. Then you have the non-alcohol, beverage or coffee packages. I think after subtracting the internet and crew appreciation from the Plus or Premium packages it's still a pretty good deal to get all your drinks for $28 or $48 per day plus 18% gratuity. Just my opinion.

It is confusing because it is the same terminology ( plus and premier) for just the beverage package and the cruise package.
