I love the Gold Coast. But, like you, I love to getaway from the GC to the GC Hinterland at O'Reilly's. I've driven all over northern NSW, but don't think I've been to Upper Crystal Creek. It sounds beautiful. -
Wishing all Canadians a very happy Canada Day on 1st July, 2023.

Thank you Lyle. Don't let it add to your stress, at this stage, as I'm not arriving until 3/8. -

Hi Lyle and Lynn, Sorry to hear your MIL has to move to a higher level of care. I looked out for my grandmother and great aunt, so know what is involved. If it is convenient, at the time, it would be nice to catch up. If not, that is OK too. I will be in Vancouver on Sunday and Monday, 16/7 and 17/7 prior to the cruise with Hurtigruten on Roald Amundsen, from Nome Alaska. The 18 day cruise goes from Nome to Vancouver, arriving Vancouver on Thursday 3/8. I fly home on Tuesday 8/8 (5 days). I will catch the ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island, as I usually stay on the island, rather than Vancouver. This came up at very short notice, so I haven't done any research for this trip yet. -

I know what you mean. My relatives lived in Mackay and on an island and we used to visit every summer. When we were told to visualise a favourite place, I always visualised the North. I doubt anyone visualises a city! -

I was born in Brisbane and worked all my life in Brisbane. Interstate people used to say Brisbane was like a big country town. I took that as a compliment. Sadly those things are all gone now. -

Public transport shouldn't be privatised in my opinion. -

You live in a lovely part of Sydney. We had relatives who lived at Winston Hills and never went to CBD, the Harbour nor the beautiful beaches. Rather a waste of living in Sydney, I visit Sydney for live theatre and love riding the ferries to the beaches and Parramatta for $2.50! -

It just came up on my computer and made me laugh, esp Brisbane. FWIW, this is my opinion - I think Brisbane has the best quality of life to bring up a family, best weather. Canberra and Perth best for education. Melbourne - Culture and Sport Adelaide for festivals and perfect size for a small city. Sydney for harbour, beaches, rock pools, city walks. Hobart for small size, best wharf and the B-Annual Wooden Boat Festival Darwin for best diversity of people and Asian food. Perth has everything, just too far from family "back East", every second year is long haul "back East" to visit family, every other year you just collapse at Mandaruh to recover. -

11-22 sunny Gold Coast winter today! -
Once we stopped over in Honolulu during peak season, when accommodation was very expensive. We hired a car for a day and drove to the other beautiful side of the island for the day. When we got back to Honolulu, the girls slept on back seat until it was time to board the plane. An inexpensive day in Hawaii.

Always nice to see you on Cruise Critic. Have you got any more road trips planned. The weather is warmer up North. My younger daughter, who is driving her van around Australia, is currently at Berry Springs, NT,, 21-34 89% humidity. -
I have cruised on a number of cruises with Noble Caledonia, and found them to be an excellent company.

Sad re unsuccessful search for the Titanic submersible. I loved "Come from Away" also, which perfectly captured the Newfoundland people. It is my favourite place in Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador is home to some of Canada's finest performers. If you go to a musical event at someone's house, someone will bring out a lager phone and someone will invite you home. A local lady picked me up at St Andrews, when I was there off a ship, and took me on a tour of her town, including past her house. On another occasion, we hired a car and drove all over Newfoundland. A highlight for us Queenslanders was seeing small icebergs floating near the Coast. A disappointment, yet again, those cute puffins had gone!
