Looking at Aurora and Arcadia prices for September and October 25, a balcony for 18 or 19 night cruises is very similar to the price I have paid for 35 nights on Iona for January 25. No thanks.
I'm certainly not going to pass judgement on whether the Captain should have docked or not. I have to say we have missed ports when there has been wind and weather conditions far less extreme. Did the weather deteriorate that much without prior warning ?
An inquiry will establish facts known at the time, not what should have been done with benefit of hindsight.
You would think so Andy, but often the opposite is safer. A huge ship the size of the Britannia, side on to the wind is like a huge sail and the forces are extreme. The old saying of riding out a storm being the best option is true. I experience it many times on a lot smaller ships in my time in the Royal Navy.
Not wanting an argument. When decisions are made to miss a port due to weather, it is often at the last minute. Captains decision, noone else can or will over rule him/her.
Many questions to be answered by the Captain me thinks. Easy to comment with hindsight but I've missed ports when the weather and winds appear okay but the Captain has announced that the weather was expected to worsen so it would be a sea day..
That's my sister in a nutshell. 98, very independent, partially sighted, hard of hearing and apart from a cleaner for two hours a week, does everything. I live 170 miles away so rely on her son (useless) and neighbours.
I have had a very good life and know my parents would have been proud of all my family so I have a lot to be thankful for. Just enjoy life while you can, works for me.
It's lovely for those of you that have had your parents for many years. I lost my father when I was 11 and mother at 19.Never saw me marry, have children, their children or my career. That's life.
It would be a good sales ploy if P&O gave a price promise to customers who book on new season release, say within 45 or 60 days, and guarantee that if the price dropped for like for like cabins, a refund will be given. It would give early bookers confidence and almost certainly increase early sales.
