  1. I like that idea, but alas... I may also end up cheating the system by getting an inside stateroom/sky suite/CS all together on the 8th deck. I have heard you can stick the kids in “steerage” as long as it is directly across from your room. For those worried- We would have the kids still sleep with us. It just looks like the inside stateroom may actually be cheaper than 3rd/4th guest in the suite.

PSU- what was the sofa bed like in the CS on Summit? Twin or bigger?

The sofa bed was a double which my daughter used and the cot my grandson used.

There was no problem having four in a Celebrity Suite.

  2. Have a great time. Chair hogs are around. They clip their towels on the loungers. There are pool monitors that take belongings and put them poolside at a designated table. Seems to curtail chair arguments. On a sea day you need to be on deck before 10 am for sure. Folks get up early to get prime seats. Richard Spacey is full of energy and joins in on all events. I'm not sure what you are looking for from him, but he is very good on the ship. Cutbacks are not apparent to me. There is only one room attendant, where there used to be an assistant. Some of the bar areas during the day were not open till certain times. Quasar never seemed open at all. They did stop those crazy $10 sales, but had a Captains sale event within the shops. From the time you get on the ship till you leave you will be asked numerous times to upgrade beverage package. Mainly for the first couple days. Same goes for specialty dining. All day, everyday for that. Nickled and dimed, no. Not sure what they could do to make you worry about that. A suite sounds nice. Hope it came with all perks, usually bev pack, obc, gratuities paid, and some internet time. Depends on who you booked with also. You will be on soon. After 11:00 for sure. Waiting in terminal was chilly, so bring a light sweater or jacket, believe it or not. Have fun

A Royal Suite comes with unlimited internet, unlimited specialty dining and premium beverage package. And usually when you book a suite you get gratuities and OBC.

    It is wonderful.

  3. I was on Oceania Nautica four years ago and was in a Penthouse Suite.

I found the average age on the ship was 70 and although the food was excellent, there was no one awake after 10 p.m. My husband and I were the only ones in a bar at that time.

Luckily it was a Mediterranean cruise and therefore port intensive.

The newer Oceania ships are larger but the R Oceania ship's cabins are very small.

To each their own, but I guess I am more of a Celebrity/Royal Caribbean person, but I would like to try Regent.

  4. I have downloaded the Celebrity App for our upcoming cruise on Reflection. It is a great app for daily activities, however I can't find any information about the ability to text others in my group. Friends who have used apps from other cruise lines, have been able to use their app for texting on the ship. This Celebrity app is new for the Reflection, but there are two ships that have had it for a while. I can't remember which ships! Has anyone used the Celebrity app and if so, is texting available?

texting is not available. I used the app on the Equinox.

  5. I really want to pre book the 4 night dining package. I am worried, as I have read some posts that report that many of the restaurants they wanted had no reservations when they boarded the ship. We are in Concierge class and I was under the impression that the Concierge could make our reservations.

Has anyone had this situation? We are on a fully sold out cruise.

    THANKS

If you are in a higher end suite you are contacted by the shore side concierge who makes reservations. I don’t think if you are in concierge you are contacted.

But I don’t think you will have problem if you make the dinner reservations as soon as you board the ship.

  6. I have been on a Grand Loft Suite on Royal with a Genie and a Royal Suite on Celebrity.

The Genie is amazing and the Grand Loft Suite is two levels and two bathrooms. You also don't have to put your luggage out the last night because someone comes to your cabin the last morning and takes you and your luggage away. But Coastal Kitchen is no match for Luminae. Also Murano and Tuscan Grill are far superior to any specialities on Royal (you get unlimited speciality dining in both a Grand Loft Suite and Royal Suite on Celebrity. And Michael's Club is so much better than the lounge on Royal.

  7. Perfectly content with our 1A cabins - walk-in-shower as we can't manage a bath - and location, location, location. Bonus of a huge balcony.

We were top level until along came Zenith and deposited us outside Michaels:D. Don't miss having our ears bashed by the interminable one-up-manship conversations though - "mine is bigger than yours etc." hehehe!!! Always hated the Michaels room anyway (S class) - through all its different uses.

For the difference in price, we can eat every night in the different specialty restaurants and Murano in particular, is way ahead of Luminae in terms of cuisine.

Celebrity didn't do too badly though - gave us free coffee and tea in Cafe Al Baccio - very social and not so much one-up-manship!! Nice music from the Centrum also. Don't miss the Concierge - never used them anyway. Always have a drinks package although we don't drink other than an occasional Zinfandel.

As long as I get a decent amount of free internet and some dry cleaning and laundry, I am perfectly happy as an Elite+ - only thing missing really for us, is drawer space in the balcony cabins.

If anyone wants a real 'suite treat' go in the Yacht Club on MSC. Now, that's luxury cruising!

Have you eaten in Luminae? It is far above most specialty restaurants. We had unlimited specialty restaurants on our last cruise and both my husband and daughter thought the food in Luminae was better.

  8. Just off the Silhouette---lovely cruise. Had some great service.

Of note... Whats with the Concierge class and the perks ...?

We -- Had to ask for our bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival....

-- Had to ask about pillow options

And --the Concierge bag didn't show up. Room steward said Celebrity was all out of them...

Neighboring cabin asked at Guest Services and was told that the light blue "pelon" bag was the "concierge gift bag"... Ummm no.. the bag from the last cruise was of great quality/zippers shut etc.

Last night of the cruise--a bag shows up for us and friends in the neighboring cabin.

Not nearly as nice as the ones from 2016--this one doesn't zipper shut and is rather flimsy. Plus it has the X logo etc. The 2016 bag was not only nicer, it has no logo so far more useful.

BTW Does anyone know IF Concierge does in fact disembark Before self-carry off?

We could have waited in Tuscan Grill - however got in the line for self-carry off. Didn't think to ask Concierge Desk if as self-carry off was quicker or to wait in Concierge/Tuscan Grill.

I don’t think that concierge is before self carry off. We were in a suite and were able to go whenever we wanted. We did go in the self carry off line because our bags were there from 7:45 am.

  9. Well have also noticed the slow deterioration of service and quality in Luminae. It may be simply because they now allow all the suites to dine in Luminae. A few years ago when it was Penthouse and Royal only, there were much fewer guests and service and quality were much better.

Luminae is still quite good, but I think the larger crowd in Luminae has inevitably created some issues.

I think you are confusing sky suites being admitted to Michael’s Club with Luminae. We were in a sky suite and a Celebrity Suite at the beginning and we went to Luminae, but not to Michael’s Club in a sky suite.

  10. We had excellent service (well not enough waiters at pool) as well. I can see why you would be checking on luxury cruise pricing compared to paying for a suite. It says a lot that you did not book a European sailing for the 1st time. Hope you have a great cruise with Oceania!

If you go on the Oceania message boards, many people are complaining about the decline in food and service. I think this problem is across the board.

  11. well particularly about the royal suite. Anyone know if there is "free WiFi" and complimentary specialty dining included. I didn't think there was and was going to purchase them, but when I called royal they told me it was included with the room. So, now I'm confused...

Unless things have changed, those perks only came with certain suites on Oasis and Quantum class ships.

But maybe it is different now,

  12. These fires already have time, sometimes these are provoked intentionally by the locals to have farmland. Especially if it is for sugarcane or corn. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for the fires after the destruction left by the hurricanes

We were on the Equinox last week. There were two landfill fires set on purpose by the government. We did a lovely sailboat excursion through the ship in St. Martin so we just saw the fires from a distance.

  13. We did this cruise in September 2016. My husband was concerned about me going crazy with 5 sea days in a row but I actually enjoyed all the time to relax. You can do as much or as little as you want while at sea. I tried to keep up with most of the onboard activities (ukulele, lei making, lectures, etc) the first two days but by the start of the third day, I was content to lay in the shade by the pool with a good book. We did have the drink package and it did help. We also visit the library soon after we board and get some books.

We had a rainy, cool day the first sea day but most of the remaining days were warm and sunny. I think one other day we had showers but there is a benefit sometimes to taking a seat in the shade. Our evil sides enjoyed watching people trying to take the fancy loungers only to realize they had been in the rain and the cushions were soaked.

We had a balcony and watched some beautiful sunrises on the way to Hawaii.

We did this cruise and it was one of my favorites.

  14. Thanks, pl281! The Royal Suite is also available on this cruise, to an extra cost of 17k Norwegian kroner (around 2k usd). Would that be better for us? We stayed in a Sky Suite in Eclipse with our son back in 2015. The problem with one big room is that you have to sit in the dark and be quiet once the kids have gone to sleep...:-)

I think the Royal Suite would be better for you. The living room is larger than the Signature Suite. You get the same benefits as the SS.

  15. Thanks Gaylemh for responding. Although showtimes can change for various reasons, I know there was a document that showed the planned show dates and times. It's possible that RCCL took it down but I was hoping it still existed somewhere. Or I'm looking for anyone who has been on a 9 night Bermuda/Carribean Anthem sailing recently and could tell me show dates and times for the no-reservation required shows.

I have never been aware of or seen such a document. I have been on the Anthem a few times but I have never seen it.
