  1. First time Viking Cruise and only a couple of other cruises many years ago.
  2. Thank you, Clay. I have read tons of info on the thread and found many of your comments helpful. We would have been happy with the DV as well but hey…guess we lucked out on this one. Really looking forward to the cruise and even DH is getting excited now! 😂😂
  3. We will be there also! Can’t wait!
  4. Thank you everyone. So happy to see all the positive comments. There is no cost, just an email telling us we had a complimentary upgrade! We wouldn’t have turned it down unless it sounded like a “too good to be true deal” and that’s what I was trying to determine with my posting in asking for feedback (since we are new to this cruise line.) We are on the Journey to Antiquities from Athens to Rome. We wouldn’t have minded the extra walking (good for burning all those extra calories) and aí think the Viking agent that booked us originally was addressing my concern to not be a noisy area. Now that we will be so close to the stairs we will get our workout that way instead! 😂 The clothes pressing will certainly be a big plus! So looking forward to this vacation and hoping all flights will go as planned and all be on time. Now if the weather will cooperate 😂😂😂
  5. First time VO Cruisers leaving in less than a week.Need opinions ASAP from all you expert Viking cruisers. Just received an email offering an upgrade from a DV(5106) to a PV (6010). I understand the cabin will be slightly larger but I am interested in the “favorability” of one location over the other. TIA
  6. Since ours was a spur of the moment decision in June to take our first Viking Cruise this November, I submitted the “online” request for information and was contacted by an extremely professional, knowledgeable and patient Viking agent. I was extremely pleased with the way he explained the ins and outs of the booking, asked questions about our preferences and got everything done during one telephone call. When I had a specific question and reached out to him, he was again extremely prompt in getting back to me. I would definitely contact him again for future bookings.
  7. If you post this on the VIKING OCEANS FORUM I am sure that you will get lots of advice and comments from the many experienced Viking cruisers. To start though, you might also want to email Viking…they are very responsive. Good luck.
  8. I just got off a “chat” and yes, it is too late to do online reservations. Agent informed me they only release 30% for advance reservations and 70% will be available subsequent to boarding. Learning something new each day! Thanks all!
  9. I received the notifications as well, but the links just weren’t “open” for me; I even cleared my cache thinking that might help and zip..zero..nada! 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s not a big deal at this point. I will try all the various recommendations once we are aboard. Thanks!
  10. Thanks @CCWineLover. I was just trying to see if anyone that was currently trying to make reservations was having the same issue. I appreciate the hint about using the Viking onboard app and will definitely try that route as well.
  11. Thank you all! I suspected that it wasn’t a website “user” problem on my part given what I’ve read in other forums, but wanted to be certain. It’s just frustrating given Viking’s “guarantee” of a reservation for each of the specialty restaurants. Safe travels everyone!
  12. Apologies in advance if this topic has been recently discussed. Has anyone had problems in making restaurant reservations on MVJ for their upcoming 2022 VO cruises (Manfredi’s and Chef’s Table?) I received notification that reservations were open, but it was actually one day too early for our cabin class, and was therefore unable to choose any dates. At the time our dining reservations were supposed to “open” they remained locked with the notation that reservations are not available at this time. Has this happened to others cruising within the next few months? I understand that we can always try to make reservations once on board, but since I had no issues with the shore excursion reservations this took me by surprise. Suggestions?
  13. @junnipperyou might still want to compare to your received PDF with your MVJ excursions listed under the “shore” menu. I noticed that ones posted under each day of our upcoming November cruise are, in fact, missing some of the excursions listed under the same itinerary on the website. In fact, one of the excursions we had been considering is not an option for us; not sure if it’s because we are going late in he season or if it’s another “COVID thing.”
  14. Viking newbie here who also had same questions until I realized that on our MVJ site, (even though we cannot yet sign up for our excursions,) I can view all the information for the options available to us. On my MVJ, I selected “shore excursions” where there is a “banner calendar” of each individual day of our cruise. By selecting a day on the calendar, I can then see all the provided excursions for that individual day, along with cost, and the times that will be available for the specific excursion, etc. I don’t think that all this information was available right away though, or if it was, I didn’t notice it, but once I was able to access the info I realized that some of the excursions that were listed on the general Viking itinerary for the cruise, are not being offered during our cruise. Hope his helps.
  15. @Heidi13so you’re saying our cruise is actually a portion of the World Cruise?
  16. Yes, but unless I’m missing something there is no specific roll call for the Journey to Antiquities, Athens-Rome, on November 24th.
  17. Have been looking for Neptune Roll Call but there haven’t been any for the Ocean voyages yet, that I can see.
  18. We are on the first part of that journey as well!
  19. We are sailing on the Neptune, Athens-Rome Journey to Antiquities, from November 21-December 1st, 2022. (Previously had posted trip with our pre- and post- cruise stays.)
  20. I found this to be the case as well. We wanted a different return flight time from Florence (currently 6:20 a.m.) but would have had to change the other flights…which we don’t wish to do.
  21. I was able to changes seats on a couple of our flights.
  22. I was able to access the “sample menu” listed with the explanation for the Silver Spirits package under the Onboard Experience tab of MVJ.
  23. https://travel.usnews.com/features/carry-on-luggage-sizes-size-restrictions-by-airline#lufthansa Recent article that gives a lot of information for domestic and international airlines.
  24. I, too, have been concerned about sizing (more for my “personal item” than carry-on luggage) particularly since we will be flying on 3 different airlines. Supposedly the initiating airline (United, in our case) sets the “rules” for the partner airlines, but I am actually going to follow the smallest sizing allowed by all three airlines just to be on the safe side.
  25. TAP is the ONLY airline that has ever given me a problem with the size of my carry-on on a return international flight! It was the exact same carry-on that I had used for the flight over, and that I have traveled with for years on various airlines with no problem? I managed to “squeeze” it into their super small sizing “bucket” by turning the bag sideways so it would be “approved” by the customer service “supervisor” who could have used a few lessons in “customer service!”
