  1. I am curious about this also. DH and I were discussing this yesterday and we agreed that if in this situation we would isolate alone and the other stay put. As long as we could communicate we’d be ok with it. I know everyone has different perspectives but our experience in the summer with the ease of passing it to each other in a 2000 sq ft house, never mind a 200 sq ft stateroom decided it for us.
  2. Coral, I am really loving your pictures. I always forget to take enough and it’s nice to enjoy yours.
  3. I brought a good supply of masks but haven’t been wearing them except in the theatre. DH caught a nasty bug while we were travelling in Europe before the cruise (multiple tests and not Covid) while I stayed healthy. We also had Covid in August so I guess I have been feeling invincible, lol. We all know what that gets you! We do avoid crowded areas and especially the Piazza. My mask is going on today though as I went down to get our early morning coffees at the IC which is usually almost empty at 6 am. Today with the time change there was a huge lineup, a lady behind me was coughing up a lung, a fellow waiting in front of me turned to avoid coughing at the counter and on it goes.
  4. How was the crown grill? We have reservations for tomorrow, but we’ve been so happy with the food in the MDR that I am thinking of cancelling it.
  5. A couple dining next to us (we all have tables for 2 but chat a bit) said they watch the shows on their cabin tv. I looked and have not found them, only the lectures.
  6. So sorry you are going through this. I really respect your self reflection that you weren’t your best self and that may have affected others. I think we could all use a little self reflection at times! We are also on this cruise, and I want to say thank you for doing the right thing and reporting your symptoms. We are no longer attending the shows and avoiding crowded spaces as we hear so much coughing around us. As we’ve heard time and time again, these longer cruises can be especially fertile ground for Covid.
  7. On board now and we have 7 days left in our transatlantic. We were tethering off of our European sim while in ports, but now at sea for the remainder I looked at buying the wifi. It gives me options of 1day at $20 (or $19.99 can’t remember), or “end of voyage” which works out to $15/day. And of course there is the plat disc off of that. Hth.
  8. We do this to offset the fluctuating CAD exchanges. Supposedly the exchange will be the same as it was when you booked your cruise. Easiest way to tell is see what the 3rd option costs, and then you’ll know the exchange you’re paying. That is for $100 usd.
  9. Coral, thank you for taking the time to do this! We are also on the cruise and also in a mini suite on Dolphin aft starboard. We are really enjoying it so far, with the crew being wonderful as always. The dining room was a bit chaotic on the first night I agree. We made reservations for 6 pm every night of the cruise, but we are actually going in earlier as we’re finding the service better a little earlier before it gets busy. We have the same table every night. ReadyToCruise2, as far as I know the Michelangelo is not being used, unless it’s an overflow. It doesn’t appear on the patters as open. Coral, can I ask how you are finding the wifi? We were travelling a bit before the cruise, so I got an esim for Europe with a lot of data, so I’ve just been tethering off of that while in port. I was going to get the wifi once we are on our sea days, but I’m wondering how it is. I’ve heard reports that it is very poor on the transatlantics.
  10. We are on a transatlantic now and I just brought on a bottle in Bordeaux. DH doesn’t drink so it usually takes me a few days to go through a bottle. If I bring it to the dining room, will they store it for the next evening for me as they do when I have bought their bottles?
  11. Have a wonderful trip! We were supposed to be on there with you, but for a number of reasons had to change to a different Transatlantic. It seemed like a wonderful roll and should be a great time!
  12. OP likely hasn’t cruised with small children and just wants opinions to reassure herself that her daughter will have a good time. Aren’t most people here also asking for strangers knowledge and opinions? Any parent will tell you that you never stop caring and hoping things go well for your children.
  13. I’m not thrilled to hear this news. We’ve taken 6 cruises this year (newly retired) because we felt safe with the protocols in place, took our own precautions and never got sick on any of the cruises. Did finally catch Covid at home ironically and not sure how. Our next cruise is a transatlantic leaving in 2 weeks. As protocols slowly started being dropped, we felt reassured that as a 16 day cruise ours would still require testing, etc. Now it’s a free for all. Yes, we could probably cancel but in the meantime we have scheduled other parts of our trip around the cruise so we will go. I really understand why people are rejoicing at this news. It’s great that things feel almost normal, but I won’t be planning any more cruises after this one until Covid is “endemic” and we’re not there yet.
  14. It showed that way for all the decks. Naturally I tried to book one of those corner suites, but got errors.
  15. The site is doing very strange things lately. 2 days ago I came up with this when searching regular balcony cabins:
  16. I have not, but we were in E405 on the Majestic which is across the way and down one. No obstruction (as you probably know) just can’t see down to the water. Much larger balcony.
  17. Terribly sorry for your loss. As you say he died doing what he loved and I hope that is a comfort,
  18. On our last Celebrity cruise we were told single occupancy Aqua guests can invite a guest to dine with them. There were a couple of tables in there with guests dining with Aqua passengers. Norwaylady, I’ll be waiting for your next trip report 😊
  19. That doesn’t surprise me as Residence Inns are sort of “extended stay” properties in Marriotts chain. I’m sure they were eager to reduce the cleaning cost of a room/suite usually with a kitchen while also generally at the low end on the room rate scale. I resent it more at the traditionally “full service” Marriotts. They used to offer you points each night if you declined room servicing. Now they decline it for you and give nothing. We loyally achieved platinum with Marriott for quite a few years, but I’m not even trying this year. Once these services are gone, they never come back. Covid was a great excuse for these companies. Having said that though, I recently retired early from a management position and the constant difficulty of hiring people was one of the reasons I’d had enough. I know in doing that I actually contributed to the problem, lol. I don’t believe anyone is losing jobs with the cutbacks at this point, but rather the cutbacks are a convenient solution to qualified worker shortages. We still shouldn’t accept it or it will become the norm and one day there when there is (hopefully) a larger pool of people looking for work they wont be needed,
  20. The Captain is the ultimate authority on the ship and can make these decisions as he/she sees fit. On any longer itinerary they are going to be extra cautious
  21. We always leave our onboard account in USD and let our Cc do the conversion. I’ve never had a problem with the cruise line not following our wishes. As another point, we have an upcoming Princess cruise coming up and I have prepaid our tips and purchased onboard credit for what I roughly think our expenses will be. Ahead of time like this, I’m charged in CAD and the conversion is only 1.25.
  22. It’s a great port to easily rent a car and do your own thing too. The rental car company picked us up at the pier and took us to the airport (5minutes) where we got our car. We drove up the coast, between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes and over to Waikoloa. Beautiful drive. The flip side is that it is a good place for those who may need to pick up some essentials and we all get to that point on a longer cruise.
  23. Glad to see you had a safe and pleasant journey home! Your cat is adorable. The other one must be camera shy ☺️ I’ll be looking forward to your next trip.
  24. Ok, that does make sense. It sounds like a domestic business class experience but on a 3 class plane and an amenity kit thrown in for a bonus.
