  1. Venture is wonderful so you will enjoy. I was just wondering about SS, Ponant, and other for Antarctica as compared to a SB Antarctica.
  2. Of the three lines about which you asked, and having sailed all over the last decades, Seabourn overall and younger (and also young-minded older people) on the expedition ships with the expedition itineraries, not just the expedition ships (Venture and Pursuit) on their non-expedition itineraries - having done both. On the non-expedition itinerary we went on, we found an older, more staid demographic just trying it out and still fixated on formal cruising and dress. Most youthful feeling is the actual expedition itinerary on Seabourn Venture / Pursuit.
  3. If you look at a map, you will see how close Ashdod is to Ashkelon, and then how close Ashkelon is to Gaza. At least eight embassies have pulled out of Israel for safety, which explains why Seabourn is anticipating the same dangers as are embassies. And if those facts don’t enlighten you sufficiently, turn on the news and you will learn that rockets are being lobbed in Northern Israel, and if you still have the map out, you will see that Haifa is in northern Israel. Do you think it’s going to get better by 2025?
  4. Is it a connecting room? Those are ones to avoid.
  5. At least one other cruise line gives passengers reusable plastic bottles and aluminum bottles to refill at water stations around the ship. Environmentally friendly but would go against HAL’s financial benefit of selling water.
  6. I’ve asked that same question of environmentalists and naturalists on expedition voyages I’ve been on and they are not aware of data regarding the exact numbers / volume / percent, but we should all do our part to reduce the amount, no matter what it is.
  7. Has anybody cruised on Silversea and another line to Antarctica who can explain your opinion of differences?
  8. That is typical attire for those of us who still work and lunch at Cap Grill which explains why many who are not retired do not like to dress on vacation as they do for work. What you think is what you think. I don’t know that many others really care. I'm not sermonizing, but many think it appropriate to not wear work attire while on vacation. Then again, who really cares?!
  9. Jacket not necessary but it does dress up even a t-shirt and lots of new softer fabrics that are easy to pack and even provide some warmth.
  10. Be aware, I posted that I find these threads amusing and was told to scroll on by.
  11. Why? I enjoy reading these threads. But thank you for allowing me to scroll by.
  12. It is amusing to read the posts and articles, but it is more amazing to come back after several weeks, months and even years and see the same recycled topics with a lot of the same posters. Nothing much changes on CC except that we are seeing more diversity in clothing on ships. I almost feel bad about the people who get so upset by what others wear. They would probably enjoy their cruises - and life - much more if they did not anguish about others. Just look the other way if you don’t like it.
  13. I hope you get an answer to your question from someone who has actually flown the SB chartered flight.
  14. Thank you for the clarity.I don’t post on Cruise Critic frequently but appreciate facts and information, without emotion, and this post is just that.
  15. I've seen news that this coming winter will have less sea ice than in years past and whether or not you believe in climate change, I would guess that the years to come will be on the same trajectory.
  16. Hello cruiseej, I don't see that Hobar said he/she/they were not complying with the luggage restrictions but I see where he/she/they said that their luggage is within limits and also that it could be a problem for others who don't know about restrictions.
  17. My understanding from reading so many posts about Venture and Pursuit, at least for the expedition sailings, attract a more active demographic than those who prefer to dine ordering from a menu and being waited upon. That was also my experience on Venture. You are lucky to have what you want on the Ovation.
  18. Sounds like so much work when someone just wants to book a vacation. Has anyone wondered why not just build the crew appreciation into the base price of the cruise since it will be added on anyway? I suspect that HAL wants the base fare to seem low. Can’t understand any other reasonable reason.
  19. That’s unfortunate and sounds like your experience is different than that of the OP although the OP only reported being told one thing (a price) and then given another (a missing perk).
  20. What is the frustration on other lines, and which lines? Isn’t a luxury line like the ones that the OP sails all-inclusive so that there would be no mistakes and misrepresentations as the OP and others on this thread have experienced?
  21. I wanted the Elite with the HIA, and willing to pay more, but could not upgrade even though willing to pay more. The reservations agent tole me I could upgrade to Elite once I board, but I have read that people were told the dame thing and could not, I read a post today by someone else who was told by two agents that HIA included gratuities, but then when purchase, he/she found out that HIA did not. I see lots of posts about people being told one thing and then not coming through, or one thing is advertised, and then not honored. Has anyone here experienced changes upon booking from what was promised?
  22. What is a day - what time does it start and what time does it end? (I assume midnight to midnight.) Where can I get cold water to fill my own water bottle, short of using my drink allotment for bottled water. (The HIA doesn’t include the Elite beverage package and I read that it is not always possible to upgrade on the ship.) Someone in my party is mobility limited. Am I able to get them a drink at the same time I get my drink?
