  1. I walk through scanners all the time. Never have an issue with my pacemaker. Bigger question is whether or not I trigger the alarm. Used to be only about 20% of the time but now more frequent, suggesting that they are setting the sensitivity higher. My electrophysiologist and I have discussed this at length and as a physician myself I have reviewed much of the relevant literature. The 1-2 seconds you might take to pass through the scanner is truly of NO significance.
  2. Speaking from personal experience, having a pacemaker for over 20 years with the last 3 being ICD’s, I have had zero problems with the Medallion. Now I must tell you that I carry it in a pants pocket, not because of the magnet issue but just because of not caring to wear a lanyard.
  3. Back to original topic. We did a Med cruise on Princess originating in Athens with a first stop in Santorini. We met a young Canadian couple whose flight from Montreal had been delayed so they missed our departure. They caught a flight to Santorini and were able to board there. It was a challenge with the flight, the shuttle to the port, the cable car down and the tender, but they managed to do it. Not saying your cruise line will allow it but it has been done by others in the past.
  4. I submitted my bill for a procedure that was necessary on a Princess cruise. My regular insurer covered all but $20 of a multiple hundreds dollar charge. Since I would have had a copay at home anyway I just let it rest there and did not spend the time and energy to submit the small balance to my travel plan
  5. The Emerald would use the New Locks. Princess’s Panamax ships are the Island and the Coral.
  6. Recognize that unlike your usual Caribbean cruises you will not be forced to do a closed loop cruise in Europe. Thus it will be reasonable to embark in 1 port and disembark in another. Many cruise lines take advantage of this on the Med by offering a rolling series of embarkations with other stops in between. You can thus easily add extra time at two places you might wish to do in more depth. I would look at cruises starting and or ending in Rome,Barcelona, Athens. A 2 week cruise might start in one and end in one of the others. Lots of interesting stops. Med cruises are very port intensive with great things to visit.
  7. Unlike GTJ who appears to be a good historian but not a current Bay Area resident, my perspective comes from being a San Francisco native who still resides in the Bay Area. I regularly ride BART both to the city for activities as well as to both SFO and OAK. We have taken it for cruises on multiple occasions. It will be fine for your SFO to the hotel jaunt. It serves no purpose for travel within the city itself. That is best served by Muni. However, do not use the F-line to get to the cruise port. It currently runs a variety of historic trollies and they do not do well with luggage. When we cruise we take BART to the Embarcadero station and then walk a flat mile to pier 27. In your case, departing from the Parc55 it would be much better to go the Uber/Lyft route, or a taxi.
  8. I bring an iPad mini but it also serves as my library since I download several books prior to cruises. DW has a Kindle for the same purpose.
  9. Should not be a problem. We do about a mile from the other direction from BART and it works fine Will be doing it again tomorrow.. Figure about 20 minutes if you walk a steady pace.
