  1. I can't figure out my scanner *thumps forehead* I wanted to print out all the Freestyle Dailies. it says there's a connection problem. I have it attached by a USB cord, so who knows.

One problem was the pool. There was a "Kid Pool" and an Adult Pool. They were both almost the same depth. My grandson couldn't touch. The Guppy pool is too small. They need a shallower pool for the in-between kids.

I'm gonna go take a nap, I'm exhausted lol Stayed up way too late, got up way too early, lots of sleep debt :o

  2. I love it when the ship starts to rock and roll...it's like being rocked to sleep. I'm lucky and have never been sea sick, but there is always an exception to the rule. I believe it is a mindset, if you expect to be sick, you will be. Before I get yelled at for that comment, let me clarify and say that being sea sick is very real. I just think you can tilt the balance with a positive attitude. :D

I lived on a small boat for years, and it's my opinion that I'm stating.

To be on the safe side, since you don't know how you will react to rough seas, I would get the patch from your Dr and put it on before you board. There is no way to predict the seas, so just look forward to the cruise.

I used to think it was in a person's head. Till i went on the Bahamas Celebration (smalllll compared to the Pearl lol) woke up at 4 am with what I KNEW immediately was seasickness...my 1st experience on water (I get "land sick" when coming off of a fishing boat, but I'm ok on) with this. Since I had been asleep, and there was no thinking of what was happening, as I was asleep, I now know there's such a thing :D Took a Bonine and in minutes, was fine :) I use Sea Bands now, and not a touch of nausea this last cruise, even though It was rocking pretty good going past Vancouver island.....

I definitely think your mind can cause you to emphasize the movement though. My daughter was doing what I was doing the 1st cruise....noticing how much it was moving, and sure enough, she was feeling woozy. I DO believe it made her much more affected than it should have...

  3. I have seen fountains many times, and still enjoy it. I see no reason to change it.

    ^^ this^^

The Breakaway cruise didn't feature Fountains at the end of the crew talent show and Quest was no where to be seen. I also miss Ship 'N Males. That was a great night out! :D

I wonder what will happen with the White Hot Party now that Glow is coming fleet-wide?

I love the White Hot Party, they'd better not change it :( like was said above, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

LOVED that they had a "Family White Hot Party" at 8 pm. my grandkids LOVED IT!!

  4. Going to be on the Pearl in 12 days with my three grandsons, can't wait for the rest of your review!! Tell me about the Splash Academy! I have a 10y/o (birthday on the cruise), a 4 y/o and a 16 month old as well as my daughter and a good friend!

Splash Academy ROCKS :) They were gone to this in the morning AND at night till 10:30, so parents can see shows. They don't HAVE to stay there, but my grandkids wanted to stay, they were having so much fun. They have a show at the end in the theater called Big Top At Sea Circus Show. So much fun. They have a Guppy area for the under 3 kids (parents have to stay with them)with activities every day, and a small swimming pool. NONE of the pools are heated that I could tell, but they weren't ice cold by any means. The kids didn't much mind till they had been in for a while, the air temp wasn't warm most of the time.

  5. The ship was rocking a bit as we went out into open water on Monday...I used Sea Bands and I still have them on as even as I am typing, I feel like I"m moving a bit. They really worked for me to prevent the nausea and dizzyness, and as I said before in another thread, I can't use the Transderm Scop, I had a reaction to it that was a little frightening..I would go into a room and couldn't think of what I was doing, so I took it off. (I tried it before the cruisea) We signed the kids up for Splash Academy. Since it was raining, the pools were empty, so my grandson wanted to swim anyway. felt like we had the ship to ourselves lol

I had an inside cabin, and will probably do that again. I am claustrophobic, and was hesitant, but was fine. The TV with the view outside the ship helped. I liked the set-up of the bathroom better than the balcony. The toilet is out in the open, with the shower being behind the glass partition. In the balcony, the toilet is in an enclosure that's pretty cramped.

One thing that was fun was the Happy Happy Washy Washy crew at the Garden Cafe. They learned the grandkids names and greeted them warmly every time we went in :) The crew definitely goes all out. How they do that week to week with little time off...it's amazing.

  6. for those of you with kids that cruised...

SEATTLE (AP) - Health officials say a child who apparently contracted measles while overseas was infectious at the Seattle airport the evening of May 26.

The Seattle-King County health department says unvaccinated people could have been exposed to the contagious disease if they were at Sea-Tac Airport in Concourse A and baggage claim that day between 6:20 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Those people should call a health care provider if they develop a fever and rash in the next two weeks.

  7. Had an absolute BLAST!!

The day started great, embarkation was fast as we were there at 10:40 am and were on the ship by 11:30.

It was raining in Seattle (no surprise, but the other time I went on this cruise, it was sunny) so the sail away party was in Spinnaker. The weather the rest of the trip was partly cloudy, not a drop of rain the whole trip that I know of.

My grandkids had a great time at Splash Academy, what a fun thing for them!

we never tried any other restaurants, the Garden Cafe was sufficient for us and the food was great.

we had some excitement on the 1st sea day (Monday) as the captain (Gunnar Hammerin) announced that there was a medical emergency and we would be turning a bit to accomodate a helicopter. My granddaughter and I were in the Guppy Pool (in the Guppie area...the area for the under 3 kids) and we felt the ship shudder as it slowed and turned. We heard later from the captain that she was airlifted to the hospital and after surgery went home.

Will be back later with more :) have to unpack....

  8. FOREVER!!! :D

It's slowly dying anyway as new Cruise Directors come into NCL and the ones who used to do it are leaving. I wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years it's gone completely just because Cruise Directors prefer not being spit on! :(

then, I'm glad my family got to see it, if it's disappearing :(

  9. I've seen fountains 2 times now. I find it very funny, but I guess after 10 years I guess it might get old, but I don't cruise that often and don't see it every year *shrug*

I still like the show at night on the Pearl. I wasn't really into what the Jean Ann Ryan (sp?) show was doing. I probably will skip the shows next time, and do something else at that time. My grandkids LOVED LOVED LOVED the music.

  10. I wish people on the boards wouldn't be so negative and snarky. This is supposed to be a friendly forum where first time cruisers like me can ask whatever we want.

I did try searching first but it didn't bring up good results. The search tool on this forum doesn't work very well.

Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Forums mobile app

    ^^^^ This!!!!^^^^

  11. I think some people don't even realize that there is a "Search" function on here.

sometimes when I have a question, I've scrolled through a few search results and they're from 2004...2008, etc. And, I'll scroll through a few pages back to see if there's a title. A lot of times, I want an up to date answer, so I'll just ask it.

gratuities is pretty common though and doesn't change much.

  12. OK, so its true you can reserve earlier now. I am going on the july 13th cruise on Breakaway, and I tried to book sec on city and rock of ages shows. I had no problem with ROA but with second city they are only offering 630. Now I know they have later times, so my question is do you not need a reservation for the later showings?

You have to have a reservation for the entertainment?

  13. Just got off the GEM and the 7-day Spa Pass was $149 and we enjoyed it more than anything else on the ship! We were there every morning when it opened and it stayed pretty quiet for several hours. Came back in the afternoons. Never got really crowded. Nice place to sit in quiet serenity away from the gazillion kids onboard.

    must have been a kids-sail-free cruise ;)

so, that might be a little more affordable.

    I miss the $99/week price from 2009 :(

  14. Before our daughter's second cruise' date=' we got her a passport. What I like about that over a birth certificate is that it has her photo on it. Since then, it's been renewed a couple of times. Next time we renew it, it'll be for ten years. She's even used it for ID for her SAT and ACT exams.[/quote']

I have no say in what my daughter does, the cruise was last minute, and yes, ideally, they'd all have passports. There wasn't time to get them :)

  15. After the 1st sea day, it's always difficult for me to fit it in anyway, I didn't use the whole 7 days. I think they bank on that. You're too busy to really use it and pay almost $200. that's a rip off imho

  16. ]Quite often people who do not suffer from motion sickness don't understand it or think it's all in our head. I suffer from it. You either do or you don't and it's nothing you did' date=' it's and inner ear issue. Either way, I would tell those who do not suffer from it, be thankful. [/b']Imagine loving cruising as you do and have to deal with being ill each cruise? I try something new each time we go out and long for the panacea. I for one, look forward to hearing how you make out with these. Best of luck.

exactly. I used to make fun of it....till i got it. People are so judgemental...yeah, I was too. :o

  17. When I cruised as a kid, the bands worked perfectly.

Last time I cruised, I felt fine on the cruise and "sea-sick" when I was back on land. I used it and felt better.

    I guess it's part psychological...

I used to think that lol

4 years ago on the Bahamas Celebration ship.

4 am. I'm rocking back and forth.....wake up to the worst feeling. "oh...THIS must be seasickness" I had never felt anything like it before. It was worse than flu. I got it while I was asleep, so I knew it was real.
