Norwegian Epic Passenger mugged in Palermo

    by kgnadmin / Apr 12, 2016 / 0 comments

Norwegian Epic Passanger was mugged yesterday in the port of Palermo, Italy. After the ship docked in Palermo the woman disembarked for sightseeing the city on her own. On the way back to the ship, near the cruise terminal two young men on a scooter approached the tourist and snatched the golden necklace. The incident happened in Via Emeric Amari a few steps from the entrance of the port.

The woman asked for help and reported the robbery to the police. Palermo police hopes to reveal the identity of the thefts by the CCTV cameras located in the port area.

  2. This is very true. I forgot about 3rd and Pine. But it's right in the heart of downtown and Pike Place Market, I don't see how a visitor can really avoid it.

I think what makes that area feel safer than Pioneer Square (to me anyway) is that no one seems to bother you. People who hang on that corner don't usually pan-handle ...because they got money coming in from their customers! :p They just want to deal and left alone by the cops.

Also, I kind of feel like the cops herd them down to Pioneer Square after 10 p.m. But that could just be me.

Any city can be dangerous if you don't use your head. A homeless guy approached me in San Francisco on a Sunday morning and wanted a sip of my tea! I said no and he flipped out. Go figure.

Anyway, good point and something for visitors to our city to be aware of.

agree with you....it can happen anywhere if you don't think...

I was born in Seattle, and have been down there so many times, I love the waterfront, and Pioneer Square is fun too. I never have felt scared there for some reason, but probably would be a little leary at 3 am.

  3. Today the state officially suspended the Ride the Duck Tours in Seattle.

Here's a link to an article in the Seattle Times if anyone is interested.

    State Suspends Ride the Ducks

This story makes me so sad because it didn't have to happen. (at least in my opinion) I don't know who's at fault, but I drive across that bridge every day on my way to work and it is extremely narrow!!! The Ducks had no business being there. The vehicles never fit in one lane. They always slowed down traffic and cars would gun it to try to pass them on the bridge. Add to that the fact that there's no median on the bridge!!

While I get the novelty of the Ducks, a vehicle that goes from land to water to land every day just does not seem safe to me. Anyway, I'm getting off my soapbox now. Thanks for listening to me vent.

well, it sounded as if the Ducks never got the memo (that's what they say anyway) to fix the axle :( yep, they said the Ducks took up both lanes. Which would not have been a problem had the axles been fixed...sigh

  4. This will hopefully be figured out soon....

SEATTLE (AP) - Washington Gov. Jay Inslee says the state will seek to suspend the operations of Seattle's duck boat fleet pending the outcome of an investigation.

Inslee and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray said in a statement Sunday night that the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission will meet Monday to discuss its authority to suspend Ride the Ducks of Seattle until the review is complete.

The company says it has already temporarily halted its operations while it assists investigators looking into a crash last Thursday. One of the company's vehicles collided with an oncoming bus on a Seattle bridge last Thursday, killing five people.

The commission says it wants to inspect each amphibious tour vehicle in the company's fleet and review the records of every driver.

  6. Unfortunately, I had a letter all written out to mail to him complimenting him (I guess I still could but he's gone so...yeah)

I was SO impressed with Splash Academy, and the cruise we had! Although, I'm not even sure Splash Academy was his idea.

my grandkids were absolutely hooked on SA. My grandson would get up and say"is it time??? Did I miss it?"

I saw the Undercover Boss episode with him and what a lot of pressure someone in his position is. Hope he's doing well.

  7. it appears that your stay in Ketchikan is a bit rainy (the ship's cam)

I love the Pearl....I'm so jealous. Hope you had a wonderful time!!!

we did this trip in May of this year, and Seattle was raining, so the sail away

was in Spinnaker. Not NEARLY as fun as outside in the warm Seattle sun :)

    you're lucky is was nice!

  8. Preparing for our first cruise I read and read and read and read....

....but there is one interesting fact that I never came across (though I have since seen a thread from 2005) - some people get 'land sick' after being at sea!

    http://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/neurological-conditions/landsickness1.htm

We disembarked yesterday morning and I am nauseous, dizzy and feel like I am constantly bobbing up and down and rocking back and forth! The only time I have felt better is when I have been in a gondola, taxi or airplane. The rest of the time I feel seasick!

I am hoping it passes quickly. :(

It usually does. The first time I got off of a fishing charter boat (a small fishing boat) I was sitting eating lunch. All of a sudden, my vision started turning black around the edges and I put my head down on the table. It passed pretty quickly.

I will NEVER LEAVE home ever again for a cruise without my SeaBands on. This last cruise, I had them on, and felt motion, but nothing. No nausea, no weird feeling. I kept them on after the cruise for a couple days. I was fine :)

  9. as someone who is going to get other tests because there was a SPOT on my lung (smoked for decades) I applaud Norwegian!!!! When smoking was first banned in bars in my state, everyone thought they'd go under. they actually got MORE business.

    thank you Norwegian!

ps. On the cruises I've been on, I've seen cigarettes flying off the balcony, and into the water.

    totally unnacceptable IMO

  10. Got to give a tip of the hat to NCL. I've sailed them 3 times in the recent past. They have the best beds at sea. They are uber comfortable and their bedding is luxurious.

Shower pressure is good and the water is hot, too. That's not something I've always experienced on other cruise lines.

Storage space in the cabin was plentiful. My wife, being this was her first cruise, way overpacked....even though she only had carryons.

There were people who had told her she had to pack more dressy type clothes for the "formal dinners". As I was watching her unpack, and saw what she had brought, marveling how she could fit the amount of clothes she did in carry ons, I congratulated her on her resourcefulness. But, I also explained to her that "formal nights" were all but obsolete in the entire cruise industry....particularly with Freestyle on NCL.

She found a place for all of her clothes in the cabin closets and drawers, with room to spare.

it might be because the Breakaway is newer than the Pearl, but my son in law said his was like sleeping on the floor lol I found them a bit harder than mine at home, but I found them pretty comfortable :)

  11. Lileebird....done the NYC to Bermuda cruise twice. First time (jue of 2013) the Atlantic was a tad rougher than this last time. That said, I'm not real succeptible to nausea. The Breakaway is probably the most stable ship I've ever sailed (and I've sailed the Carnival Breeze and Royal Allure). The first one was a bit rockier than the 2nd one. Neither was what I'd call rough or in any way upsetting in the least.

    Hope that helps.

    More posts/pics to come.

So, it was a bit rocky...most of the time? Or, just part? I am very succeptible to motion, but love sea days, so that itinerary sure sounds good (Bermuda)

thank you for the review and congratuations!

  12. On my last cruise, the time automatically changed on the channel showing where we were, ships time, etc.

We were given notices when the clock went backwards.

Why would it stay the same on the ship, and be different on land?

Wouldn't that confuse the excursion people?

Have been on 5 cruises, they've always changed the time as we went west or east.

  13. I sailed on May 25th...till June 1. The day before we disembarked, I went and got the cruise rewards. They talked me into the card. I haven't heard a thing since *shrug* the transfered my onboard charges to it. Maybe they'll forget and not charge me :p I should call probably

  14. Agree. For the most part, children will be fine if they know nothing about it. Put it into their heads, and ........ :(

I roomed with my grandson (parents and sibs down the hall) and never mentioned motion sickness, I was curious if the kids would have any effects when we were rolling pretty good one day. He got out of bed one morning and said "whoa...I just got kind of dizzy" I didn't say a word Ssssssssssssssssshhhhhh lol

  15. I cut the patch in half. I have never had any side effects, but it totally stops any motion sickness. I use it for sailing small boats. I suggest if you do find yourself feeling awful and the lighter options don't help then the patch is an excellent option. If you find you are one of the unfortunate who do have side effects you can just remove it. And honestly I would WAY rather have a bit of amnesia than any sea sickness. Especially if the amnesia made me forget the seasickness!!

I'm glad I tried it before I left home. I coudln't remember why I came into a room. The whole DAY I had it on, I was so disoriented, I couldn't think.

I would rather cruise with my mind intact LOL

  16.

With a huge history of getting sea sick on ferries, deep sea fishing and even a little tourist boat around a bay, I swear by the SeaBands/ wrist bands. My cousin wore them and my aunt told me they worked for her... Nothing to lose, I tried them. No dizziness, vertigo, or feeling sleepy or drugged. Just normal, even on that one night when the ship was rolling... :)

    SuZ

that is my experience. I could feel the movement, and it kind of bothered me a bit, but NO nausea...dizziness, nothing. I won't ever sail without them again.

  17. question on motion on that itinerary for those who have done it. Is there a higher risk of motion sickness on the larger ships? Or, about the same? thanks to everyone for the detailed descriptions!! It's the itinerary I'm considering in the next two years.

And, I've heard about Dolphin Quest in the Bahamas, so that would be something to get off the ship for :)
