  1. I could definitely see doing it for $100 or less pp. But this is close to $500 for my son and I. I'm assuming there are other things a teenager will want to see on the island?
  2. A lot of people love it, including myself and my husband. But I know many people who don't like the flavor of curries and such. I think those that do are simply quite vocal. I, personally, would love a dedicated Indian restaurant. But I'm not sure if the demand is there. You know that Royal Caribbean does a lot of marketing tests on such things.
  3. it's supply and demand and this helps the cruise line determine demand and how much people are willing to pay. Economics 101.
  4. Who has gotten a day pass for Coco Beach Club? Is it worth it? I'm traveling with my 15-year-old son over spring break and I'm trying to decide what we should do on CocoCay. It's $232.99 per person for the Coco Beach Club on our upcoming cruise. Not sure what it includes - mentions just this on the excursion page. Seems pretty light for that kind of price. I've never been to CocoCay, however, so I'd like to hear other people's experiences with it. I mean, you get premium towels! Full day access to Coco Beach Club. Complimentary upscale Coco Beach Club restaurant. Complimentary chairs, umbrellas, and premium towels.
  5. My Harmony of the Seas cruise is in 30 days and it's still not allowing entertainment to be booked. Anyone else experienced this?
  6. I buy the 110 lb magnetic hooks on Amazon and those work fantastic in our cruise cabins. Anything lighter just slide off the wall when I hang anything heavier than a hat on them. It's about $11 for four hooks. You will get a boarding time for your ship, and then head on over. Usually it's late morning or around noon, so you'll just head on over to the port at that time, spend the half hour to an hour waiting in line, showing your ID and documents, sitting until you have permission to board, then board the ship, eat lunch, start your vacation. The timing works out perfectly well. I wouldn't recommend taking that much luggage. One large suitcase per person is plenty. It won't be particularly cold in August, although it will be rainy on occasion, and some times of the day will be positively warm. Take layers so that you have warmer things to wear on the ship's deck out around the glaciers, rewear clothing, and then a couple nice outfits for dinner that you wear more than once since you're only in them a few hours, and you're set. You don't need jackets for dinner in Alaska. It's a very casual environment. We'll be on a Celebrity Alaskan cruise in July and my husband always likes to wear jackets to dinner, but he won't in Alaska due to the more casual environment. I've read post after post where only about 10% of the passengers are seen in suits or sports jackets at a formal dinner on an Alaskan cruise ship, and those that step up to a dressy shirt and nice slacks feel like they're dressed to the nines compared to most passengers! So, we will skip it to save room for other clothing. It's just not essential on an Alaskan cruise. I don't know about the extension cord and potential need for it, so I'll defer to others.
  7. For those who beat dead horses (so mean), I booked a GTY neighborhood balcony on our upcoming Harmony cruise on April 1 because I was 100% fine with any balcony, anywhere, and at $2,900 and some change, it was $900 less than if I picked a neighborhood balcony and $1,300 less than if I picked an Oceanview balcony. I haven't been assigned a cabin yet. The cruise is in 30 days. My boarding pass just shows GTY after the dash right now. Just for reference's sake for the original question. This is a bonus cruise I booked a week ago, wasn't planning on going anywhere for spring break. If there's a slide on the boardwalk outside my balcony, so be it. Don't care, going on a cruise, woo-hoo!
  8. Makes sense. I hadn't heard of it, but did research. My husband is PADI certified. I am hoping I enjoy scuba and want to get certified, so that the three of us can go on dive trips together. But we'll see...first I have to try it out.
  9. I cancelled the one device pp plan for two people and rebooked it as one plan, two devices and saved $50. Thanks for the tip!
  10. I hear you! For me it's a bucket list kinda thing. I've always wanted to learn to scuba dive and I just keep getting older and, well, older. It's now or never. Maybe never. But at least I'll do this and be able to know for sure.
  11. I booked the 3-night dining package for our upcoming cruise on April 1. I chose the first night of the cruise for the automatic reservation. How do we pick the restaurant? It just shows the time blocked out, but not the restaurant. I've read other posts and I understand that we will be able to book the other two dinners once we are on board.
  12. I booked a scuba excursion with my son for St. Thomas. It's listed as a minimum age of 15. My son is 15. I booked it, and Royal Caribbean accepted the booking. I was re-reading it yesterday, and in the printed information in the body of the description, it says the minimum age is 16. Why would there be a different age listed there? And since they already accepted our booking, are we okay with it? My son is a certified scuba diver and this just a "discover scuba" try dive type excursion. I'm doing it because I want to see if I like scuba diving. So, in other words, it'll be nothing for him to do it. Regardless, it's all about the minimum age requirements. The two screenshots are below with the age descriptions. One 15, the other 16. Weird, right?
  13. Today I accepted a Priceline Express offer that I reviewed on better bidding and realized, from the hotel photo that it showed for a 4-star hotel in Vancouver, that it was the Auberge. I ended up getting both nights for a total of $603, including all fees. This is for two nights in July 2023.Those two nights were going for $1,046 on the Auberge website with all fees included. So I consider that a very good deal.
  14. Just an update - I added on one more night in Vancouver, so my price at the Pan Pacific went up to a total of $1,100 for two nights with all fees added for our two nights in July. That did include breakfast. But still...so expensive. I looked into other hotels, and finally did a Priceline Express offer that I reviewed on better bidding and realized, from the hotel photo that it showed for a 4-star hotel, that it was the Auberge. I ended up getting both nights for a total of $603, including all fees. Those two nights were going for $1,046 on the Auberge website with all fees included. So I consider that a very good deal. It's pre-paid and non-cancellable, so that's where we'll be at this time.
  15. I opted for a Priceline Express Deal for a 3.5 star hotel and ended up with the Holiday Inn Port of Miami-Downtown for the night before our cruise. I had gone to better bidding and saw that it would be the Holiday Inn based on the photo Priceline showed me for the hotel - I matched it with the hotel lists on better bidding to the photos on the Holiday Inn website - so I was fine with that choice. We're there during the week of spring break, so my total cost was $303 with Priceline with all taxes and fees, and paying outright on the Holiday Inn website would have cost me $421 for a non-refundable room with all fees.
  16. We're on the April 1 cruise to the Eastern Caribbean on Harmony of the Seas. which nights will the big shows be in the Aqua Theater and the Royal Theater? I don't want to book a restaurant reservation over them.
  17. Curious which restaurants are included on the UDP. I know my son would prefer Johnny Rockets for lunch at least one of the sea days.
  18. What a nightmare!!! I hope it ends for you very soon and you can get back to real life. Yikes!!!
  19. Ah, okay. Thanks! We're not getting a drink package because while my husband might have 3-4 drinks a day on vacation, I have one, at most. It doesn't work out $$ wise to get the drink package.
  20. I admire your grit for taking two young ones on a cruise. I took my son on his first cruise when he was 21 months old. I didn't take him on another cruise until this past December, when he was 15 years old. It was that traumatic. For both of us!!!
