  1. I honestly don't recall, it was 24 years ago. Sorry! I remember looking for fine dining to celebrate an anniversary and we couldn't find anywhere to go. It could have also been a side effect of the time of year we were visiting. We arrived Labor Day weekend and left three weeks later, so a lot of things were closing for the season. We flew into Anchorage, drove to Homer and spent a week, then drove to Denali and over to Fairbanks, and back down to Anchorage. We were in Alaska for about three weeks.
  2. I didn't find any fine dining in Alaska during my visit in 1999. Perhaps things have changed.
  3. I'm trying to decide between these three excursions for the July cruise my husband and I are taking on the Celebrity Millennium to Alaska while we're in Ketchikan. One is the Saxman Native Toems and Crab Feast at George Inlet. I read that people don't like the one hour boat ride they have to do on some excursions, so the totems seem like a very good alternative and you still get to have crab. The other excursion is a canoe ride in the rainforest and seeing ancient totems. The third excursion we're considering is a backcountry jeep ride and a canoe ride on Lake Harriet Hunt. If there are any excursions I should be considering other than these, please let me know. Thanks in advance!
  4. It was listed under excursions for the day we are cruising past Hubbard Glacier. I'm on Celebrity. Here is the description.
  5. What month will you be there? I attended the Alaska State Fair one year on Labor Day weekend in Anchorage. It was a lot of fun.
  6. For whatever it's worth, I have booked it for our July cruise on Celebrity. I had read reviews by at least two people who highly recommended the small boat tour of Hubbard Glacier.
  7. No, they're both too far for driving. Airfare would be about the same to each port.
  8. I've put child car seats in the airport x-ray scanner, but I don't know about that size luggage. I'm sure that info is out there somewhere for the cruise ship. Sorry I can't be more help.
  9. How much are the cabanas? for NCL they range from $399 to over $1,000 depending on the section you're in.
  10. the x-ray unit is the same size as at the airport. would it fit through that scanner?
  11. I'm trying to decide between two itineraries on RCC in May 2024 for my family - we'll be getting two cabins. One for my husband and myself and one for our three kids (ages 16, 21 and 22 at the time of the cruise.) All of these ports are new to us. Even those we've technically been to, we were unable to actually visit due to weather, unable to tender from the ship, etc. on previous cruises. I know people tend to say they prefer the Eastern Caribbean but it's all new to us. We are an active family, some of us are scuba divers, the kids are all beach lovers, but we also appreciate a day on the ship relaxing and enjoying the activities on board. Here are the two options. As you'll see, one is significantly more expensive than the other. Harmony of the Seas out of Galveston ($5,200 for two cabins - one interior promenade view and one large balcony) Day 1 - Galveston, Texas, depart 4 pm Day 2 - Day At Sea Day 3 - Day at Sea Day 4 - Roatan, Honduras from 8 am - 5 pm Day 5 - Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico from 8 am - 5 pm Day 6 - Cozumel, Mexico from 7 am - 5 pm Day 7 - Day At Sea Day 8 - Arrive at port 7 am OR Wonder of the Seas out of Port Canaveral ($8,004 for two cabins - one interior promenade view and one large balcony) Day 1 - Port Canaveral, depart 4:30 pm Day 2 - Perfect day at CocoCay, 7 am - 4 pm Day 3 - Day at Sea Day 4 - Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, 12:30 pm - 8 pm Day 5 - Philipsburg, St. Maarten, 8 am - 6 pm Day 6 - Day at Sea Day 7 - Day at Sea Day 8 - Arrive at port 6 am
  12. That's so odd that they won't be sailing to the Caribbean in the summer of 2024. It's a popular destination.
  13. Most other cruise lines have posted their itineraries for summer 2024 in the Caribbean. Princess has not. Does anyone know when Princess typically posts theirs?
  14. I've never sailed RCC, but looking at an end of May 2024/early June 2024 Caribbean cruise for my husband and myself and our three kids, who will be 16, 21 and 22 at the time of the cruise. We'd get two cabins - one for the kids and one for us. Trying to decide whether to splurge on Wonder of the Seas ($7,700 for the cruise) or save money on Harmony of the Seas ($5,500). We'd be happy with either itinerary. I've looked at both ships and they seem fine, but as someone who has never sailed RCC, I don't know how much difference a new ship makes versus one that will be 8 years old at the time of the cruise. The Icon of the Seas will be out by then, too, but that cruise is at $9,800, so I'm just gonna skip that one as an option since I'm sure Wonder of the Seas would be just fine if we opt for new and $2K less.
  15. I usually do bring my own robe but if there is one available, particularly since we're in a spa room, I'd rather avoid packing one and simplify things. This is all good info. I fit into the spa robes fine - I wear a women's size 8 - not skinny, not chubby (at the moment) - so I will hopefully be fine.
  16. This hike looks perfect, thanks to both of you!
  17. I'll call and talk to a different representative. Agreed. Can't hurt!
  18. I'd like to do a hiking tour in Ketchikan that gives us a decent workout and shows us some of the beautiful natural sights in the area. Can anyone recommend a tour they've done? We'll be there in July. Thanks!
  19. I called Celebrity to ask about adding the train from Seward to the airport to my cruise, and the customer service rep said that there wasn't a train option available for our July 7-14 cruise. She said the only option was by bus, and the bus would either take us from the ship terminal to the Anchorage airport, or to the Anchorage city center, which is what I chose since we're spending the night in Anchorage. The cost per person was $78. Compare that to the train, which if I booked independently doesn't leave the station until 6 pm, arriving in Anchorage at 10:15 pm, and is $119 pp for the "adventure class" and $243 pp for the gold service. So I booked the bus.
  20. I can't share any Villa info because the Prima wasn't able to stop in Great Stirrup Caye due to the rough seas. Since it's a tender port, we basically pulled up next to the island, then left a few minutes later. It was sad!
