Voyager - Rio to BA - Norovirus and Covid
flossie009 replied to CAHW's topic in Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Of course NCLH/Regent could adopt a zealous ultra-safe approach to keeping all infectious diseases at bay ............... ................... but I sincerely hope they continue to take a pragmatic & measured approach and that guests play their part by adhering to basic hygiene rules -
We were on deck 14 of Splendor (same class of ship) and had no problems with movement. However, we did meet a guest on Explorer who was troubled by noise from the Culinary Kitchen immediately below suite #1215

Are self-serve buffets really the cause of noro outbreaks? If so we must have dodged many bullets in our many years of cruising and enjoying buffets on land & sea. -

..... the quarantine having proved to be unnecessary and simply based on unfounded rumours Seatrade report -
This must be a recent issue, or one particular to Grandeur, as we have always completed the survey on our iPads on the other Regent ships.

Hi Crisy, Loving your blog. Were there any special measures taken before entering New Zealand waters to avoid the debacle that a number of cruise ships suffered last year with biofouling issues ?

This is one of the included excursions being offered by Regent during our day in Laem Chabang

Thanks @labonnevie. Interesting photos 😮 According to Regent, the port now has the opposite problem. Regent’s recent communication states: “Due to insufficient water depth in the river/channel at the Bangkok, Thailand port, we have rescheduled embarkation and overnight on April 5, 2024 to the near-by port in Laem Chabang, Thailand" IMO, referring to Laem Chabang as "nearby" is somewhat inaccurate since the journey time between Laem Chabang and the centre of Bangkok is 2 hours plus.

Heaven forbid 😉 😂

Wining and dining on the oh so gorgeous Grandeur!

Why? More fool them for leaving a valuable item unattended .......... and for a long period 🤨 -
I think Regent have finally plumped for Laem Chabang for our upcoming cruise; they have now released revised excursions to suit the new port. We are arriving in Bangkok a few days before the cruise so will just have a longer transfer to the ship on embarkation day. The ship stays in Laem Chabang the following day and we have therefore chosen a 'local' excursion. For those who wanted to go on a Regent tour in Bangkok, those excursions now have a price attached whereas previously they were 'free' (and without the long bus ride to & from Bangkok), which really is a bit cheeky of Regent.

Of course if I was a conspiracy theorist then choosing Laem Chabang over the closer port will save Regent about 70 miles (5 hours sailing time?) on our cruise plus the same on the preceding cruise 🤨

I trust you reported that conversation to the GM as IMO that response demands a reprimand -
Do Regent ships ever dock in the port nearest to the city, Khlong Toei, or always at Laem Chabang (2 hours from the centre of Bangkok) ? On a Regent cruise in 2019, Navigator was scheduled to dock at Khlong Toei but it was then changed to Laem Chabang, citing low river levels as the reason (even though a Silversea ship managed to dock successfully at Khlong Toei on the same day 🤨 ) We are booked on a cruise on Navigator in April which starts in Bangkok. When the itinerary was first released it was scheduled to depart from Laem Chabang. Over a year out this changed to Khlong Toei and the excursions when released reflected the closer port. The port was also confirmed on our 'Preliminary Vacation Summary' received from Regent towards the end of last month ............... but then this month the embarkation port was changed back to Laem Chabang and all booked excursions were cancelled ☹️ Again the reason given was low water levels even though most press reports talk about rising water levels 🤔 🙄 Bangkok Post Pattaya Mail We just wondered if anyone had ever been fortunate enough to dock in the port nearer to Bangkok on a Regent ship.

Perhaps @Mike Moore or @Jennefer Teegen can enlighten us as to why the survey has to be completed while still on board. We had always assumed that the technical reason was because you were connecting to the ship's intranet rather than the wider internet? Certainly agree that the format of the survey could do with a revamp. Some of the ratings are unsuitable to the question. Some of the freeform "Tell us more" boxes are placed so it is difficult to know to what they refer. There is a need for some additional questions such as "Which crew members excelled during your cruise?" and "Was WiFi connectivity & connection to the internet satisfactory?"

Question about Kids/Teens in Alaska

This "policy" seems unnecessarily complicated. No wonder parents & servers could become confused. -
How many Regent Rewards points do you need?
flossie009 replied to Half Hitch's topic in Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Redemption values also vary by cruise length. The longer the cruise the more points are required for that coveted T shirt Some of the entertainment team are more meticulous than others ................ but for the dancers the points have to be in multiples of 8 "....... 5, 6, 7, 8" 🤣 -

I seem to recall BA doing something similar a few years ago (pre-covid) -
Orange Order NI Centennial Parade (Irish Times Report) Understandable that the port was skipped, but it was bad planning by Regent to have scheduled a stop in Belfast that day.

Compass Rose is only open for lunch on Mariner, Navigator & Voyager; not on the newer ships, where a speciality restaurant is available instead (Chartreuse and/or Prime 7)
