  1. Seems less about blame than about the child's welfare. Parent does something dumb or is incapacitated so doesn't show or make contact. What else is there to do other than attempt contact? Seems preferable to caring for the child with no idea of what is happening. Maybe there should be a law that parents provide alternative contacts who will take charge of the child if they are unavailable. Do you get a lot of late shows when the clocks are moved forward one hour? When I was coaching kid's sports, on "spring forward" day I was advised by the more experienced coaches to remind parents to reset their clocks. Otherwise it was likely at least one would be an hour late to pick their kid up after practice.
  2. Interesting a country that was able to implement NHS would hand over these essential infrastructures to private business.
  3. When we did the canal transit the new locks were still under construction. We did a partial transit. Once we reached the lake, we did an excursion on a small ferry boat that took us the rest of the way through to the Pacific. Then we were bused back to the ship. If I recall, there were drinks and snacks made available. The ferry excursion through the remaining locks was pretty cool. You could literally reach out and touch the side of the lock, which we shared with other vessels. There are some long stretches of motoring along that some might find tedious. If that is an issue, it is likely better to have the amenities of a cruise ship over being on a small ferry.
  4. @leck57 makes a good point about rules being potentially differrent in different countries. From here, as long as it is apples-to-apples and prior to final payment, yes you can get the lower fare.
  5. Well, hindsight is always pretty accurate. In this case, we should keep in mind the passengers paid a TA to among other things, provide a visa. Most would feel reasonably satisfied they had been diligent in doing that. How would they know the visa was a fake.
  6. I think you could say that about any cabin. But then those cabin stewards share in the daily gratuity. Which brings the question, do the concierge share in the daily grats?
  7. The idea of having to tip the suite concierge at every encounter is kind of a turn-off. If an extra tip is expected, I would much prefer one time at the end. I sure don't tip my cabin steward every time I make a request. Maybe I'm not cut out to be a suite! Lol.
  8. Longest paragraph in CC history! 😃 Fortunately, your last sentence accurately summarized!
  9. Or it has nothing to do with budget. Because we've had a good breakfast a sit down lunch is often just not in the cards. Instead we might pick up some goodies while we are roaming around (especially from those wonderful bakeries).
  10. Not being someone's preference is understandable. Disgusting is kind of a strong word for this situation. It being their business, I don't get wound up with how people spend or don't spend their money. The bad part is in all likelihood they were in violation of the local rules for bringing in that food.
  11. After reading your posts I looked at several news reports. This is really a sad situation. Hopefully it will get the attention it deserves.
  12. Very good point and especially applicable to cruise ship travel when you want the bags completely out of the way. Like most, we completely unpack on cruise ships. Sometimes the bags fit under and sometimes they don't. These days we just store the luggage in the closet area where one becomes the hamper. For land trips, I usually live out of the suitcase sitting on the stand. Clamshell styles don't work well for that.
  13. I don't need a package for that! haha I only sail on lines where that is included in the base fare.
  14. I would end up eating them as a midnight snack. 😃
  15. Oh, maybe they did and I missed it. I do recall someone talking about not being able to remove the grat from the Plus pkg in another thread. Could have been a comment here too.
  16. I didn't think the OP's question was about wifi included in a package. Well, except for the wifi package itself I guess. The idea of getting the wifi pkg discount as OBC is not appealing to me either. Fortunately, we have not experienced that and it sounds like it isn't happening. The concept of a customized package is interesting, though I suppose there would be all kinds of practical issues in implementing something like that.
  17. I've read many complaints about noise issues under the pools, buffet, gym, lounges, etc. Not the Regal, but we have had cabins on a handful of other Princess ships right below the lido deck. Happily, without any noise or other issues. In fact, just today we were looking for aft Marina deck cabins on Caribbean Princess. I don't think of myself as a heavy sleeper, but maybe I am. Or maybe I'm a light sleeper with bad hearing! Another frequent complaint is slamming cabin doors. If I've heard one, it just hasn't registered with me. Sometimes hearing of an issue might make one more intensely aware of and even develop an expectation.
  18. Not following the point. If someone doesn't want wifi then the cost is obviously of no concern.
  19. Yikes! If I were the husband who stayed on board, I would be afraid to ever go home.
  20. Awesome! Good luck with the bid and Enjoy!
  21. Sounds good. Our BOD is elected by the membership. We do have a management company. Communication to/from membership is via the management company.
  22. I had never heard of Seattle Freeze until I read about it on this thread. I looked at an interview with the reporter who originally coined the term. What I found interesting is 20 years later even with all the population migration from other places, the Seattle freeze is said to still be a thing. Not unlike the Body Snatchers, it must be space pods causing this. Watch out @clo! 😄
  23. Don't get me wrong, I support reasonable rules that are reasonably enforced. However, I have to admit I'm probably the last person anyone would want on my HOA BOD. The power would probably go to my head! haha.
  24. We have not selected any credit card because of the travel interruption benefit. It is an added benefit and nice to have. It is worthwhile to read and understand the basic protection provided. It may not be comprehensive. We have had one claim for a cancelled flight with unreimbursed expenses. We carry an annual medical travel policy. We elect to not carry a travel insurance policy covering the cost of our trips.
  25. I think another home buying difference between our respective regions is buying a home in my neck of the woods does not involve an attorney. As an aside, in my state HOA rules relating to single family occupancy and/or additional living structures on single family lots are no longer enforceable. We have kind of drifted here, but I guess there is some relationship between HOA CCRs and rules folks might want about cabin door decorations. Or not. 😄
