And what side should we sit during the White Pass train ride?
-
Maybe HAL would reconsider if they charged to
play like bingo. Sometimes there are more bridge
players than bingo players. I would pay $10 for
a duplicate game.
JC
Agree. We are used to paying to play.
-
I hope this means HAL will be reinstating duplicate bridge on certain cruises less than 31 days. We have written both Orlando Ashford, President of HAL, and the ACBL regarding their decision on this cutback. We had two separate cruises with an average of 14 tables run by volunteer directors since the edict. ACBL didn't honor the points of their members even though we had two sanctioned directors on one of the cruises and three on the other.
We will no longer be taking transatlantic cruises because of this horrendous decision from Seattle.
Oh no! We just booked a TA on the Prinsendam in Nov. We were so looking forward to playing sanctioned bridge on the crossing.

New balcony doors were installed on all the retrofitted aft cabins during the Grand South America to correct past flooding issues. We were in one of those balcony cabins and our balcony door was replaced while we were on an overland trip to Machu Picchu.
Is there much noise from the pool area in those aft cabins?

Just booked!
Prinsendam:Nov. 02, 2017: Transatlantic
Thanks

Thanks all. I was hoping to see an April 10 cruise to tag onto our season in FL. No such luck.

Anyone else having trouble trying to book one of these new cruises? Supposed to be able to start booking today but, I cannot get the page to open
-
We love those sea days because we are bridge players and there is a game every afternoon.
-
Thanks everybody!

Thanks guys. Wonder what the chance is on finding out what room HAL has us assigned to so we don"t have to move the next day. Not a major prob I know but it would be nice.
-
Can anyone tell me which hotel/motel HAL uses in Fairbanks? We will be arriving the night before the land tour begins so, will need to book the extra night. Thanks

We always cruise with a hanging shoe bag for over the bathroom door. 16 slots and neither the bathroom or the bedroom is cluttered.

Noordam--June 25, 2017 15 day triple Denalie land tour June 18, 2017

Love the idea of train/bus combo but, we dock in Haynes. need to ferry over to Skagway . anybody do this?
-
Yes the Kdam does have a balcony light.
-
We were in #7109 in June. Had the advantage of being really extra large ( on the bump out) and no sight restrictions at all.
-
we have 4154 booked in january. Very excited, only 2 like it on the ship--extra large balcony because of crew stairwells.
enjoy!
-
We were in 7109 on Kdam July 17. The balcony is huge. Could easily hold a party out there. No extra furniture however.
-
It appears the sofa bed and existing bed are in opposite positions compared to most HAL quad verandah's (that I have been in, at least). When the sofa bed is extended in one of those, it is impossible to reach the verandah without crawling over the sofa bed. Surely, they became aware of this problem as I comment about it on each survey;)
It would have made perfect sense to put the sofa bed near the window on these family OV and not obstruct the main footpath! Seems like a huge mistake on their part. Just when I thought these family OV could not get any more ridiculous, they prove me wrong!
We had our 12yo grandson on the sofa bed. We all got up at the same time and he immeadiatly closed it up. so, no problem.
-
Just to let everyone know, if balcony size is important to you, we were also just on the Kdam. We were in a veranda room that was in the corner where the ship juts out (#7109) and we could have held a party on the balcony. It was huge!

To be fair, he was probably an assistant Maître D. He assigned tables for open seating. Never a smile, or a word. We always got a quick table so he was efficient, just not courteous. Really clashed with everyone else who was really friendly.

We had the same impression and thought it was because we showed up with 2 kids. He was on deck 3 (upper level) so,we switched to the deck 2 desk and they were lovely.
-
We also just got off the Kdam last week. Since we did not want the air off while we were off the ship, we just used my Aetna insurance card.
-
Here is what the room looks like when turned down. Please note that to reach the beds and trundle, you have to literally crawl on top of the sofa bed. Not optimal for someone with back problems or mobility issues, and terrible if you need to reach the bathroom in the middle of the night.

We were in a veranda quad on the Konigsdam. Were you not given a ladder for the pull down bunk?

We were also on this cruise and experienced the same problem. We missed the announcement (only in the daily navigator) about picking up tender tickets starting at 8am. Went down at 9 and could only get a 2:30 time. Since we had a 1:30 private tour booked,we explained our situation and were told absolutely nothing could be done. Went to the service desk and were told to come there at 12:30 and someone would escort us to the gangway and get us on the tender. I am sure that the ship excursions had first priority (as they should have) and took most of the early times but a few days notice or a verbal announcement would have helped a great deal.
For the next tender port we got there at 7am, already a long line, a got the time we needed. I seem to remember that 6 tenders were used.
Such a let down

Got an email today telling me that we were elegible for a preferred upgrade to an SS or SA suite on our TA cruise in Nov. this is on the Prinsendam and would have cost $599/per to go from a GTY AA to the suite. I have never before taken an upgrade but, since this is an anniversary trip I decided to go for it. How sad that when I called the young man apologized but said the email had been sent in error. :loudcry:
