  1. Good Monday Morning Dailyites! It's 54 degrees and cloudy. I checked NOAA last night, we are to have rain every day except Thursday. @ger_77Oddly enough I am jealous of your snow. I know that you have a lot of snow, and are housebound for a while, but even that I am jealous of. I love the silence of snow. Especially here in the south. No cars, no trucks flying up the highway. No buses going up the major road near us. I call this time the scream of silence, and I enjoy it. I used to take vacations (cruises) in February just to get away from the gray skies, now it seems that I need to start planning vacations in March. But this year that wont happen. I had to tell my BFF Dan last night that we will not be able to make our planned trip up north to see him. DH was off the entire month of February, and I missed 3 weeks of work due to illness and the Internet conundrum. The one month of the year where we both made lots of money? didnt happen this year. And I will probably not be offered a return for next year. Still have no sales. Im not even sure I will remember how to process one on the computer. Tigger stayed out way too late yesterday, but was very glad to see me with food this morning. Munchkin was here this morning, and Chumley (the long haired black cat) came to feed. I put his plate on the edge of the car port, as he does not play well with others. DH suffered a brain injury in 2016 when he fell on the pavement outside Macy's. Medication, and self medication was to blame, and he spent a week in the hospital. After he came home he only watched TV shows that were from the 60s, he couldnt remember much of his past, or our anniversary. His sense of humor had changed, he lost vision in his right eye (which never returned) . I took him to a neurologist who said that he would not ever let him drive again, but because he wasnt walking correctly he put him in physical therapy. DH does drive, but I wont get in the car with him when he does. It took almost 2 years to bring him back to normal, but every time he has surgery and gets put under, we go through a brief repeat period. But it was during this time that I remembered there are angels on earth. Our air conditioner had gone out, and one day when I was talking with one of the nurses who called for a weekly check up, and she asked if I needed anything. I said air conditioning. (you really cant be comfortable in Atlanta in July and August without it). She knew a young doctor who had purchased two window units, but his neighborhood covenant would not allow him to install them. She told him about my problem, he came over when I was at work, and when he saw DH's condition, he installed them, one in the den, and one in the living room. I had left a check out for him, and told Chuck to fill it out, and I guess he did, but he couldn't remember for how much. ( it was under 100) We used those units until 2020 when we put in a new furnace and air conditioning system.
  2. I'm wondering about the quote today, was it regarding him, or a line from a film? I think he explored this idea in Midnight in Paris. When the main characters believed they were born in the wrong time. (one of my favorite films for the soundtrack).
  3. Good Sunday Morning Dailyites! Currently it's 50 degrees and cloudy. When I turned on the computer the weather block said "limited visibility". I thought it was an eye test, as I had to put my glasses on to read what it said. Today is farmers market day. Since @dfish taught me how to roast veggies, DH and I try to get a new veggie every time we go to the market. I also need to catch up on the F2 and F3 races that we missed not watching yesterday as I was working. @grapau27Thank you for Father David @cruising sister How nice to read that Baby Murphy has gone home. DH's surgery is at 8 am on Tuesday. We have to be there at 6 am which means that I need to get up by 4. The hospital is not far away, but my stomach is not a morning person. And @catmando is not a morning person at all. I'll get him up, but he will probably be back asleep, before they put him under. I scoured the program information from Fridays concert, and saw that there is a free "with registration" cello concert-Bach under the stars at our local planetarium featuring Zuill Bailey. How fun! I registered yesterday It's not until April 20th, but something I will love. I used to go to the planetarium every Saturday Morning for the "Whats in the sky this week" talk and show. Things I did in my "singlehood". Have a great day everyone!
  4. Good Saturday Morning Dailyites! It's 46 and cloudy. And guess what the weather forecast for the whole week is? Rain. I'm not so sure that the majority of my stray cats want to be rescued, I think they just want to be fed. I did however let Tigger off the porch last night, so that he could get some hours of wandering in, and then I got nervous that he didnt come back. He did eventually show up, looking terrified. He got on the porch and was very nervous about something that was following him. A baby possum. One of the strays finally moved into the big box with blankets, he is a noisy creature, and picks fights with the other cats. But he is wearing a collar, so he/she was a dumped or deserted cat. He has been around for about a month now. @dfish Your pictures of the meal of the day look really good. Warm and filling! The F1 race is on in 15 minutes, but for some reason, the new formatting on the TV isn't allowing me to watch the prerace show. Oh, I understand now, the prerace show will start soon. Dh was off an hour when he said the race would start. I heard on the Today show today, that hard wired home phones are going to be a thing of the past, and that the phone companies will no longer support them within the next two years. They obviously are not concerned for the hard of hearing, who need attachments on their phones in order to use them. Like my neighbor. After the race, I need to work -I have had no sales since this campaign started, and it ends next Saturday. Abd then I have to find another campaign to work for.
  5. Well after attempting to talk DH out of going to the concert, I got it. He has not worked all month, he is bored, and he didnt care if it was pouring, so off we went. And it was more than what I expected. I have always thought of the Noon Concerts as piano, and I was not disappointed in that. It was all Faure music, they were celebrating 100 years to the day of his death. But the second half, they brought out the Vega String Quartet (three out of 4) and low and behold, the fantastic cellist we heard on Tuesday was performing again. Double treat this week!
  6. Rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit! Good Friday Morning Dailyites! It is 40 degrees and raining cats and dogs! I need to walk around the house and change all the calendars. We had planned on going to a free piano concert at the Noon series at Emory, but when I get done with walking the dog, I may not want to go out again, and have to walk in the rain. It's quite a hike from the parking to the museum and concert room. Taking my dieticians advice and having some cottage cheese, and two slices of pineapple, (that was my idea) and my sensor went off the charts again. She is allowing me 30 gm carbs per meal, and that was only 20. As she said, it's not the food. I know my food. I watch my carbs. I am just not excited about having to spend 1200 a month on another med. Money I dont have. As my friend Elena said yesterday, I could take a cruise to Mexico, and get the drugs, for less than what we pay in the US for the drugs. Sorry about the whine. @kazuI know you dont complain when you are ill, but if you are in need of some help right now, please let us know. I had noticed you had been rather quiet since my return from internet Hades, so adding you to my prayer list. Please get well soon.
  7. I really enjoyed seeing Cheryl my dietician today, it had been more than 4 years, OMG! how does that happen! but I did not like the news she gave me. The illnesses I have had, the meds, my stupid inability to take my meds at the times that I should ( I take them en mass at the end of my day) she has informed me that it's not my diet, that is sending my blood sugars over the top, it's everything else in my life, and it's time for insulin. So my goal is to walk, to take my meds when I should take my meds, to meditate, and to learn to unstress (if possible) to get my blood sugars to where they should be. She also told me I need to get more calcium to ward off more of the oncoming osteoporosis, which seems to be a problem. Yesterday afternoon, on CC I couldnt like anything. So even if you dont see a like, I😸 love you all. In fact I told Cheryl about you all, and she decided that you ARE the best thing in my life right now. (But I knew that)
  8. Happy Thursday Morning Dailyites! It's off to see my diabetes dietician today, first time in more than three years, as she retired, didn't like retirement, found out the offices were not supporting the diabetes community, and has come back, it took me since May to get an appointment. The woman is in demand! OK, I was either asleep or losing my mind, the Concerto I heard the other night, was Schumann's Cello concerto. I thought the history of the piece was interesting, as when Schumann wrote it in 1850 there was no soloist to do a world premiere. It took almost 50 years before the piece was actually performed. Our soloist was Guang Wang. He played with such heart! Yesterdays blustery day was interesting, I watched the branches on the trees blow from the west to the east for a while, and then the branches went east to west. And the temps dropped quickly! I now have two solid repeat visitors each morning. Uggles, and the little Munchkin. (she is so tiny). And Tigger has the porch, until all the "feeders" are gone. I can now pet Munchkin, but Uggles is way too wild to even attempt. Her need for food allows for the petting. Now that I am up and going on the internet, DH and I are catching up with what we have been missing on Britbox-Father Brown, Death in Paradise and a new season of Vera. Life is getting back to the old normal, but we are missing our daily walks in the woods. that we did when we had no TV. or work.
  9. @cat shepardI hope your sister is doing better today. @Cruzin TerriDrive safely! Hope you are feeling better today. @smitty34877I hope your weekend aid helps you all out! @StLouisCruisers, @ger_77, @dobiemom Thank you so much for emailing me. Chuck set up my email address on his phone, and when he did, it automatically updated to my phone. But unlike my email on the computer, once I replied, and then you replied to my reply, It didnt show as new, and I didnt find the replies until much later. I'm still going through a mass of emails! But it feels good to feel loved. Hugs to everyone here!
  10. Good Wednesday Morning Dailyites! Wow this weather coming across the country is interesting. It reminds me of when I saw Dr. Zhivago for the first time. It was 65 degrees when we went into the theatre one Friday afternoon in the way back when. (After school group of us, and we got off at 1 on Fridays). Since we were hardy Yankees we were wearing shorts and T shirts. We watched the movie, just fascinated with the house completely covered in ice, anyway, the movie was over, we walked out and there was 6 inches of snow on the ground. I said to my friends that was a powerful movie, it moved us to Russia in winter! I love pockets! If pants dont have pockets, they do not get purchased. I look to buy my skirts with pockets, shorts with pockets, and if I am lucky, dresses with pockets. I hate carrying a purse. Once you are in a relationship, your purse becomes, their storage area. Kangaroo problems. I am in the process of cooking breakfast and typing..... Last night's concert was very good, but we left during the intermission. My left hip didnt like the seats in the alternate concert hall, and DH had a headache, and we knew we would not get home until after 11 if we stayed, and the place turned out to be only 8 miles from home. The first piece was Finlandia. The DSO was joined on stage by the Dekalb students of the county Arts school for this piece. This was followed by an Aaron Copland piece, cant remember the whole name of it, but it was Lincoln something with a narrator. I love the music from the movie Gettysburg, and I now know that a lot of it was inspired from this piece...perhaps borrowed would be a better word....plagiarized seems more accurate. But the third piece highlighted a soloist doing a viola concerto. It was fabulous, and I will have to find the program to let you know who he performer was, and the piece, but I wanted to leave after that piece, because I did not want to forget it in my head. And now, breakfast of 1 egg and sausage patty is done, I can face the day.
  11. Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites! I found it rather funny, that the only week that we did not have appointments to go to was the week that we were disconnected from the world. This week we have symphony tonight which has been moved to a new location, not in the best neighborhood, in an area I dont know, and I will try to find it at night, in the dark, when I dont see well . Should be exciting. The getting there. If they were not performing Finlandia by Sibelius, I would probably stay home. Thursday I meet with my dietician, who left the practice, and then returned after 3 years. Friday we are attending the Noon Piano concert series at Emory University. Our neighbors who went to Vietnam for "a month" on January 6, are still not back. But this year, there have been no deliveries made to the house, the mail they have received has been junk mail only (except for two letters from the bank) . DH has been going over every day, turning lights on, and off, and last week he heard something scurrying up in their attic. I think he finally understands why I have dog walking burn out. Something that has to be done every day. Our county water system has changed bill processing companies. They dont mail a bill anymore. You have to pay on line. You have to create your own account. Thing is, if you dont use a computer, or like last week, it doesnt work .My neighbor Donna does not pay anything on line. So she went down and stood in line last week. We were all assigned new customer numbers, but the numbers were never loaded into the system, so they could not match the account numbers when receiving payment. She paid cash, they asked if they could keep the change. She said No. There are two stray cats that have stuck close by, one lives on the porch, we call him Tigger/Tiglet, he is a little under a year, and he is a stray. The other is a feral tiny female, that looks like she might have been one of Bubbles kids, she is young, small and I believe with kitten. When I open the door in the morning to feed the strays, she is close by, and runs for her food which allows a small amount of petting. It is nice to be back amongst you all. I really missed you!
  12. Honey, Im home....!!! We stopped on the way home from lunch and saw 5 AT & T trucks, chuck asked them when they would be done, and they were done! Putting the door on the , ready to go. While he is in front of the tv with his F1 news, I am off to work for the first time in 12 days.
  13. Good Thursday Morning Dailyites! I am not as morose as I was last night, see ? a new day. Today DH and I both go back to the Lung Doc. I am having breathing tests ( I will fail) and DH needs his own Lung Doctor. I am not using the oxygen as much, as my level isnt going down, I just cough all the time. May be I am getting used to feeling bad all the time, so I dont feel bad, just used to it. We live in walking distance (we never walk there) of a great breakfast restaurant, and DH has been saying that he wants to have a good breakfast there, so we will be dining out this morning post dog walk and pre Doctor appointment, and after the appointments, I go to work. We stopped in Walgreens yesterday to get a card for Donna, and the chocolate was already on sale! So DH bought me some chocolate covered cherries, and he got his Reece's peanut butter cups. We got Donna a box of chocolate. She only likes milk chocolate. I am loving the pictures of Lisbon, but what was the vision that the 3 children see?
  14. @dfish, little straws and a white substance???? But I'm glad you tried it. It just does not look chocolatey enough. I had a weird day. DH was getting his infusion, and he asked me to get some Valentine's chocolates for the nurses in the office. He asked if I needed money, and I said I would "rob the bank" , ATM. Well turns out that the Emory Credit Union ATM no longer works with my bank, and it refused giving me money. It had done so before and I tried a second time, but again, it refused me. I went to the store, bought the chocolates (and two new gnomes) with a credit card, and figured I would ask the girl in the hospital gift shop about the ATM. The one in the hall she said never works, but to use the one behind the second plant in the atrium. I tried, and again it said NO! I thought, well maybe my account has been hacked, and that there was no money, so I asked it for a balance. I had money, so figured I would just wait until I got to an actual bank. And when I was there, it told me that i had suspicious activity on my account, and my card was frozen. We went to lunch, and when we got home I called the 800 #, but they said they had to call me while I was on the phone with them, so that they could open my account. Well apparently our call waiting does not work,, and after 3 attempts, I was told I had to go to my bank, and have them call, bring two forms of ID (aren't I glad I always have my passport near by. ) And after a half hour at the bank, with them working with the fraud people, I now have a working ATM card again. I know I have mentioned that Dh is losing weight, and not by choice. He lost 5 pounds this past week. His doc is now submitting a new prescription to help build up his appetite. DH says he has no appetite, but I think something psychological is going on with him regarding food. If a salad has more than 3 leaves in it, it is too much. And Yet tonight, I fixed a salad, with some teriyaki /peach jam marinated shrimp, and he was fine. He ate a whole sloppy joe on an onion roll last night, it is when he has to make a decision on what he eats that it all falls apart, Even asking if he wants mayo and mustard or just mayo, or mustard, that he shuts down and cant make up his mind. And then it is a problem of him eating it, because he thinks he made the wrong choice. And if I want something, and I order first, he doesn't want to eat the same thing I do in a restaurant, even if what I ordered was what he wanted. So, I make him order first, and sometimes a simple decision (at least to me) takes over a half hour to decide on. Sometimes life is just not easy or entertaining. Sorry I'm sounding down and frustrated. Tomorrow is a new day.
  15. Happy Wednesday Morning Dailyites! DH has an early morning infusion today, we will be leaving at 8:20 to get to midtown and his appointment. The drive is not that bad, its the finding a parking spot that takes so long. Happy Valentines Day!
  16. Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites! It is sunny and 41 degrees. Last night we had that heavy rain storm like Sandi did, It was like Mother Nature squeezed a very soggy sponge over us. And then it was done, the wind started up, and we ended up losing power during the night. It was only out for a little over an hour, but the house really cooled down. Donna who never sleeps was up when it went out and called the power company. She then texted me when the power came back on. I was not awake for either text. @StLouisCruisers Donna was mugged outside her home in 2003. Since then, she is no longer sleeping in her bed, never gets into jammies, stays dressed 24/7. Her lights outside are always on, and she sleeps on the sofa in the den. She never drives to work the same way, she never comes home the same way. She lives in constant fear. So I do hope your Morgan will get help, and get out of where she is living, so she can start living again. Desperation day? Even when I was single, I would not worry about not having a date on Valentine's day. It's a day. With a name. The ex # 1 said I could choose between our anniversary or Valentines day. But he wouldn't send me flowers for both. I chose the anniversary. (they were 2 days apart) I should have chosen divorce. But I had to wait 9 years to do that. Silly me. And yes there are times that I wish i could edit and proof my life. But I am under the belief that all that I have gone through brings me to where I am. And where I am is not that bad.
  17. Good Monday Morning Dailyites! Its 57 with light rain, but boy we had a heck of a boom of thunder last night! And of course I do have to go walk the dog this morning. I made crab dip last night for the game, but DH and I fixed a couple of tacos, ate around 6, and didnt have any appetite for the crab dip, so I guess it will end up being part of lunch or dinner. The older we get, the less likely we are to end up at a buffet. DH is losing weight at a rapid pace, and I have to nag to get him to eat. So far the only meals that really appeal to us are second breakfasts and ice cream. I hope you all have a wonderful day! I have been to Cherbourg, once when we moved to France, (Queen Mary 1960) and once when we left France *Queen Elizabeth 1963) . Other than stopping on the way to our new home, and my mom ordering Sole, which she loved, and my dad ordering me beef tongue, which I made him eat, I have no other memories of Cherbourg. And I like the quote, I was thinking of something similar this morning about a friend, who lost her son several years ago. I know losing a child is terrible, he was a grown man, but after he passed away, she went and took all of his belongings out of the house that he lived in with his partner and their child. Anyway, to me it was like if she couldnt be with him, she would have all his stuff to be with. But robbed the partner and child of all their stuff that they shared too. When I was so sick on the ship, the doc pointed out to me that we are born, we live and we die. And if I didn't want to die now, I had better think about getting well. Find something to live for. I asked if I could have a burial at sea, and he said no, so I put my sights on things to live for.
  18. @ger_77I was sorry to hear of your losses yesterday. I do understand the staying up and thinking. Hugs to you.
  19. Good Sunday Morning Dailyites! Its cloudy, it has rained, and we are expecting at least 2 more days of wet weather. And when the rain is gone, and the skies clear again, the temps will drop 30 degrees. I have never believed a groundhog's prediction. I have seen snow in Atlanta as late as April. I want to thank all of you who gave me recipes for that pork roast. I wish I had cut it up before I froze it. So when I did take it out of the freezer and let it thaw, I decided to cook it in the crock pot, and I wanted to let you know, it was great! I added a can of tomatoes, a can of pineapple chunks, salt, pepper, a little brown sugar and red pepper flakes and cooked on low for 8 hours. It made the best pulled pork! Which I am going to use in carnita tacos for dinner tonight. My super bowl supper. The pork came out sweet, and the pineapple soaked up all the heat from the red pepper flakes. The schnitzel idea will be used the next time I find pork at that low price again, but I will cut it before freezing. I went back yesterday and worked for the theatre again, and will be there again Monday. I did get a sale, and my boss texted me and said I was up for a bonus yesterday, as not many people showed up for work. After 5 hours, I was still the only one with a sale. But when I clocked out, and sent him my text, he did not respond. I do worry about him, he moved to MX over the Christmas holidays. He adopted a dog, and he and the dog have both been attacked by other bigger dogs when out walking. Street dogs. And he always responds when I clock out.
