  1. Thats exactly what I said in 1981 when my Mother was adamant I needed one for our QE2 cruise. Fast forward, I believe I now own at least 7 formal Evening Jackets in various colours. 😅
  2. An 'Evening Dining' experience might suit you better. Totally underwhelmed with my lunch time experience ( even though it was a diamond freebie) Not my idea of a premium dining experience during 'daylight hour' In view of too many overweight folk in swimwear 😅 ( windows overlook the aft pool and hot tubs) 😒 put me off me steak .
  3. You'll find Britannia Category guests are much more formal than those in the Grills. It may not be exactly 99% but far more gentlemen will opt for full formal evening wear rather than a lounge suit.
  4. Do men NEED to wear a dark suit , no they don't need to , however, as another contributor has pointed out the majority of gentlemen on Cunard will probably opt for something more formal than a light grey suit. A dark suit would be more appropriate on a formal/gala evening if not wearing formal attire. Edited to add; Queen Mary 2 'Transatlantic Crossings' are more formal after 6pm especially on a gala evening than on a regular warm weather cruise itinerary.
  5. How long is the itinerary of your Honeymoon ? - I doubt anyone here ( myself included ) are questioning the necessity of having to visit the self service laundry ( I certainly do my self - it's another bottle of wine in the evenings 😉) If you are comfortable with Ducking and Diving under a Washing line in your stateroom - then each to their own .
  6. Hello D&N, as a seasoned Cunard cruiser as you and your wife are, I'm flabbergasted you are advocating hanging out washing on a line on your balcony. 🤦‍♂️😅 Quite often it has appeared in the daily program a caution not to hang washing out on the Balcony in the event it could go over overboard . Not only that, to be quite honest it's rather Naff, we don't want to see your smalls hanging across the balcony ( when in port) when we return back to the ship. 😁
  7. Rather confused why you want to put up a clothing line 'Across' your stateroom' There is a pull-out line specifically (on all Cunard ships in the shower area ) for the use of drying off washing. How much washing do you intend to do, there are Dryers available in the self service laundry . Are you serious you'd hang up washing ( across your stateroom) to be dried off , which may take at least 12 hours
  8. Indeed, and occasionally the first port of call before the US is often Bermuda 👌
  9. Many of us here have traveled on 'Queen Victoria' much further than the Azores and across the Atlantic en- route to the US/NY ( first port of call) often as part of a Caribbean itinerary. Your husband is concerning him self unnecessarily , the route taken is more of southerly route, the Azores is hardly the route the QM2 takes on her Transatlantic crossings . Tell your husband to stop worrying and worry more if his Jackets will fit into the luggage along with all your shoes .
  10. Ideal for those of us who travel solo and enjoy the interaction with fellow guests, including the Bar Staff. I'm delighted to see they have finally arrived, felt a bit out of things the other week sitting in a corner solo in the CC The Bar Top is where the magic begins , it's a sort of closed club every evening pre dinner with couples and solos alike .
  11. No, Britannia Club across the fleet is never open on embarkation day , however, oddly enough (can't they cope 🤷‍♂️) the Main Britannia Restaurant on QA is open for lunch on embarkation day as is the self service buffet. The Britannia Club Restaurant is also used daily as an overflow for Afternoon Tea from the 'So Called Queens Room' Another example of QA promoting its self as a Trend Setter. 👎
  12. The 'Captains Reception' that 'everyone' had an invitation to ( regardless if one was already a member of the Cunard World Club or not) has now been discontinued, however, on your QA Round Britain a CWC party ( in fact three over two evening) took place. the Senior officers party ( usually a lunch time affair) still take place on the QM2/Vista fleet .
  13. Not to the wine tasting as one has to show their key card - otherwise they will be charged .
  14. I certainly do at the CWC/Senior Officer receptions, but then again the Diamond Pin I wear is one of the original type, much neater rather than the gaudy tin flags on offer today. It's even more personal for me when I'm cruising Cunard, as I had a local jeweller insert a very small diamond into it taken from my late mother's ring. I believe I'm not the only gentleman who has done this as I must admit I copied the idea from a couple of other seasoned Cunarders who wives had passed away
  15. Unfortunately on your itinerary this was just an isolated experienced, QM2 ship models have been available onboard for years, Same ( other ship models) as across the Cunard fleet .
  16. No, I believe this question has been asked before many times. Ad-hock Speakers are not made known in advance the reason being they can often be replaced at very short notice for all sorts of reasons . Ad-hock Speakers occasionally join a ship down route and often have to rely on Air transport or other means to get them to the ship. 'Celebrity Speakers' and entertainers are often made known in advance, however, only on the Themed Event cruises. Often these speakers will have embarked at home port and travel as guest (for several days) before their onboard presentations. I have two former colleague friends who are now Ad-hock speakers, they tell me they often could be telephoned late afternoon at very short notice to go down to Southampton or Heathrow to join a ship replacing someone. It's a very good GiG for their lady partners who they take along too , not having to worry what to cook for a week. 😅
  17. Not so much about Deals , however, it is about first hand knowledge and advice of what Staterooms could be avoided. Often a low deposit and generous onboard credit depending on the length of the itinerary. The other attraction is being able to pass the booking onto your preferred Cruise Specialist who ( if you have already struck up a relationship) they in turn will often offer a further discount off the original booking . It's no brainer, been doing this for years .
  18. Perhaps you are not in the know - Some of us, myself included have 'occasionally' conducted our future booking business over an early evening drink in a quiet corner of a public venue 😉
  19. Just walk down there and ask for 'Chris Foy' tell him his friend Paul recommended him to you 😂
  20. What ship are you on at the moment out of interest, however, to answer your question, Yes just call in - shortly before 5pm is the best time as they will be preparing to close , you'll have a better opportunity to speak face to face. I have always found they are very accommodating and will find a slot for you , even if it is after their hours. There are three voyage sales managers on duty so one of them is sure to have an open slot - never known them to turn away revenue .
  21. Her sex is not relevant only you appear to have a problem with the post . I referred to her as the 'new lady president' to make a clear distinction from the two previous male presidents who appeared to move on very quickly in just two and half/three years and hardly made any impact at all. At least this lady president has been visible during the last few months.
  22. We are hearing more and more of these TUI 'Cunard' charter flights . I'm wondering if the new lady president who came from TUI ( just under a year ago) has had her finger in this. 😅
  23. Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge ? whilst she still holds this title shouldn't we be referring to her as - HRH The Princess of Wales 🤔
  24. Well spotted ! I thought it was only me that had noticed that. Cunard just keeping up the Hype
