  1. Sure hope the weather holds for next week, you photos are great. I've done Alaska almost 30 times but never get tired of the vies
  2. Thanks for the info. I am pretty sure I would make the cutoff as early in the cruise I go over 600 days. Glad to hear it is a lunch, I much prefer that over a cocktail party.
  3. When I bought mine years ago I did a lot of online research, bird watching and boating sites had some good suggestions. Try to get some actual test looks at local sporting good stores etc as I noticed a vast difference between the, and was not always impressed by the more expensive ones
  4. If you get a chance I would like to know the cutoff for the Most Traveled luncheon.
  5. They always seem to have an excuse for not getting closer. I usually do a North/South B2B and always laugh when I hear them say how luck we are, this is the closest we have gotten all year. lol Sure hope the weather holds as I get on when you get off. If you think the ship is nice with 1400 passengers I was aboard for Christmas and we only had 400+, Talk about deserted 🙂
  6. How close did you get to Hubbard, it looks pretty far? My last half dozen visits we never seem to get close anymore. My first visits back in the 90's and early 2000s we got very close. FYI I don't consider it close unless you are past the island and can see all the way down the face of the Glacier to the right. I was very lucky on my early visits, on the old small Island Princess we saw a huge calving event and when the piece was carried past the ship it was bigger than the ship itself. We were only about a ship length from the face.
  7. The first few hours out of Whittier are some of my favorite views. Try and be on deck for a while
  8. Correct I meant the Captains Circle party. I hope to get invited to the Most Travelled Luncheon but seems like lots of high Elites are sailing post Covid Just trying to figure my chances lol
  9. If you go the CC party I'd like to know the numbers of the top three if possible. Also looking forward to hearing the procedure on turnaround day in Whittier. FYI I consider the couple hours after sailaway as some of the most scenic on the trip. Always great in the long twilight hours
  10. Your weather looks fantastic. I get on when you get off but the forecast doesn't look great. Will keep fingers crossed for good weather
  11. I love the interior cabins aft on Aloha deck. You are just steps away from the open aft deck viewing area and I have never heard any noise from the buffet are above. If you like being forward the interior cabins on deck 8 Emerald have access to the raised portion of the promenade , great views and covered if it is raining.
  12. Mine has switched from green to yellow and back several times today. Strange
  13. I've done this drive several times and would plan on 5-6 hours to get as far as Emerald Lake. Its really just a quick stop, Carcross is a nice little place to wander around. Lots of scenic spots to stop at along the drive, I would suggest getting an early start at 8am to beat the tour busses to all the stops. Don't fiorget your passport and that you need to register on the ArriveCan web site. I would visit the cemetery on the way back, you want to beat everyone out of town. Caribou Crossing is not much either, and all teh tours stop there so can be crowded
  14. Who is the current Captain? Are they back to two shows a night in the main theatre and are both sides of the buffet open? I was on the Grand over Christmas and we had only 400+ so lots of services were changed.
  15. I sail on the Grand in a few weeks so hope to hear your thoughts. Who is the current Captain?
  16. Interesting I thought only Princess sailed out of Whittier and HAL used Seward
  17. Here is a great video about the tour I think you are interested in. Looks pretty good
  18. Sorry to hear that they are keeping their distance. I had been very close on my first few visits but it has been years since I have gotten anywhere near the face. Guess I was spoiled early. I sail in a couple of weeks and hope we get closer but am not holding my breath.
  19. Forward balconies are facing into the wind and can be almost unusable at times. Aft you are protected from the wind and get the full 180 degree view. I love aft
  20. When I sailed over Christmas there were only a little over 400. Talk about no crowds lol
  21. I miss it also but understand why it was eliminated. Try going 18+ months without a paycheck yourself and see what things you have to drop doing

    Juneau tours

What ship are you sailing on? If a Northbound Princess from Vancouver to Whittier you have enough time in port to sail to Tracy Arm with Adventure Bound from Juneau. Cheaper tour but is an even longer day. I have done this 6-7 times and will again this year. It is my favorite tour in Alaska and top 3 anywhere in the world I have done Up close and personal I think this is the best Glacier viewing in Alaska , I have always seen lots of calving and along the way both whales and bears
  23. If you have been to Skagway before Haines can be a nice option, but there is a lot to see in Skagway. If you do decide to go to Haines stop in the small Hammer museum, it can be fun. If you have the $$$ I highly recommend a flight with Mountain Flying Service, he flies out of Skagway also but is really based in Haines. I've done several flights over Glacier Bay and it is spectacular
  24. When you have been on lots of cruises and many Most Travelled luncheons you get to know the Captains more. Each has a different personality and some are very friendly. A good Captain makes the crew happy and it reflects in their attitudes.
