  1. Norwegian docks a few miles down the road at a port called Taino Bay. They are a few rare times when Norwegian docks at Amber Cove, this has happen last year when the Escape ran aground at Taino bay All of the unofficial cruise timetables website you see on google make it very confusing because both Taino Bay and Amber Cove is combined into one port that is commonly called just Amber Cove or also commonly called Puerto Plata
  2. big ships like the joy use pier 88, smaller ships like the gem sometimes use pier 90. overall its still the same cruise terminal: Manhattan cruise terminal . pier 88 is the common pier that is now used for all ships
  3. no. you go the mdr that is assigned to you. it is on the sail n sign card your time dinning and the seaday brunch is the Canal Grande
  4. 1) Complimentary food: Main Dinning Room (Marco Polo,Canal Grande), La Strada Grill, Tomodor, Guys Burger Joint, Lido Marketplace(Buffet), Pizzeria Del Capitano . In the afternoon the seafood shack has free Chinese food 2) If you go the buffet at peak times, they will be long lines. they are 4 sides of the buffet. I noticed the aft part of the buffet has the least amount of lines. The biggest issue is just the layout of the buffet as it is one line for everything from salads to soups to entrees. This is what the make line slow. 3) Shows is Color my Word, Vintage Pop, Epic Rock, Broadway Beats and Family Feud. Depending on the length of the cruise, they may not do all of the shows 4) Menu and Fun Times can be found digitally by using the HUB app
  5. its incorrect information that been on the ncl website for many many years. the 2 hours is only for the embarkation day. does not apply to port days. for port days you need to back onboard at least 30 minutes prior to departure time . the time will be posted in the freestyle daily and signs in the gangway area
  6. The carnival rep gave you false information because the carnival website says this: Faster to the Fun is not offered on Carnival Journeys departures, cruises in Europe nor on cruises from Honolulu, Norfolk and San Francisco. Ships that sail from Norfolk is Magic and soon to be the Sunshine Ships that sail from San Francisco is the Miracle They are lots of ports doing Journey cruises to and other ships doing cruises in Europe Since the faster to fun program came out it was common for it to be not available on any new ship until at least 6 months or so, sometimes earlier or sometimes later. the Venezia is still considering a new ship with the first sail date being May 2023. Expect faster for the fun to be available for this later this fall
  7. not available for new ships until after 6-9 months. new york does have fttf also not available on the journey cruises
  8. new york is my homeport. the only thing i dont like is the way how carnival set up the terminal with the document check right at the front of the terminal. it causes alot of crowding which forces you stand outside of the terminal in a sometimes long line that can go down to the other pier. Other cruises lines that sail out of the same terminal does a better job with this i like the new seating options the venezia has above the ldio deck area and the cover pool is great for rainy/cold weather
  9. Testing and other covid things was removed last year
  10. all islands always have people selling some kind of tour once you get off the ship
  11. i have been on cruises in the past when the app menu was incorrect and the paper menu was correct for that day. the app menu was completely wrong and the paper menu was the same one they have posted on the wall outside of the dinning room i also had issues with scanning qr code on my phone where the page never loads at all time or i get some odd error message like invalid url or some other strange error message
  12. for me i like to have at least 2 hours between the two excursions because excursion can sometimes run a slightly longer then the estimate time
  13. its a week usually in November when new jersey schools is closed due to a teachers conference. it has no effect with the NYC school system
  14. The Norwegian Jade is doing Alaska cruises. It is unknown if they are doing any more inside passage. From what i read here before and elsewhere, all ship is is no longer sailing in the passage
  15. i been to a few these ports myself. here is a quick map i draw up to help you with this: Boston: Bus area is to the left of the cruise terminal building, off the side kind of like: Portland: The gangway can be long. Buses is in the parking lot area near the Visitor center Halifax: Right in front of the terminal building Sydney: Bus is in the parking lot near the ship Charlottetown: Similar to Portland, Buses is the parking lot near the entrance of the terminal building. can be a long walk
  16. Yes and i also remember a band called Fire and Ice. it was on the breakaway back in the day
  17. like other people had in this thread, i had issues with the room steward charging the bottle as a mini bar purchase to my onboard account and then i had to go guest service to get the charge removed and be credited correctly for the free water. to avoid all of this hassle it is a lot easier to go the bar and pick it up
  18. Next year i am doing a Bahama cruise on carnival. on a mock booking i just did, port taxes and fees is 15 dollars higher today.. i wonder what carnival will do to me so far royal is the only forum with this kind of news
  19. when you place a bid for an upgrade you are like booking a guarantee cabin where they can put in anywhere. this is common among all cruise lines with these bids. some are good and some are bad
  20. Its official. here is the official press release from NCL: https://www.ncl.com/newsroom/norwegian-cruise-line-announces-extensive-enhancements-to-norwegian-joy
  21. FOR NOW!!!!..with these changes being made, i wont be surprised at all if in the next 5-10 years or so Norwegian will do the same thing to the port side and leave only the forward part as the observation lounge. Converting only the starboard side seems more like a test to see how well the ship reacts with added passenger capacity
  22. GSC tendering is very different compare to other tender ports. At GSC they have tender boats that somewhat looks like a ferry boat. Where as other tender ports like Newport, Rhode Island and Bar Harbor, Me the ship uses a special lifeboats that are designed as tender boat. It is at these tender ports that make big ships like Prima and Oasis class impossible to tender I also been to tender ports where the ship contracted out those whale watching boats to be used as tender instead of using the ship tender lifeboats
  23. book the fixed costs restaurants first like moderneo, teppanyaki and then al la carte places like cagensy, la cuccia, etc last onboard the ship you will the wait staff you are using the dinning package
