River Cruisers: How Are Things Where YOU Are?
texasstar replied to Host Jazzbeau's topic in River Cruising
My husband, a family physician retired when he turned 65. Now he volunteers once a month at the local free medical clinic. He gets to work with great people, the patients are so grateful, and gets to practice medicine without the hassles. -

We live near in Kalama, WA, so it is about a 1 1/2 hour drive. It is our favorite coastal town. -

Cannon Beach, Oregon. Haystack Rock. We were just there last week. -
Funny about your oil change. We had a 2013 Subaru Outback that had 122,000 miles and needed new new tires. We wanted to drive from WA. to Texas (because we didn't feel safe flying) at Christmas to see our mom's that are in their 90"s. Perfect excuse to buy a new Subaru Outback!

AmaWaterways still plans to sail in May

I think that would be a great marketing move on their part. -

I agree that this forum is essential for our "travel mental health". My husband asks what I am doing while I am reading, and I tell him, "I am traveling, via Cruise Critic." -
When May River Cruise Lines Resume Service? [final edition]
texasstar replied to Host Jazzbeau's topic in River Cruising
It is more than 15 months. We paid in full in Sept, 2019 for a cruise in June 2020 which was cancelled. They only give you FTC not a refund, so we rebooked for June 2021. The vouchers are good for two years. If you choose not to use the FTC, you must wait until the end of the voucher time, to request a refund. Luckily, they agreed to rebook the cruise for 2022 for the same price paid in 2019 (same cabin catagory), so we are now rebooked for June 2022. Hopefully, third time is a charm. -
When May River Cruise Lines Resume Service? [final edition]
texasstar replied to Host Jazzbeau's topic in River Cruising
It is official, Scenic has "suspended" the June cruises, at least in France. This is now the second one "suspended." They are giving FTC. If you want a refund, you must wait until June 2023 to get it. Glad to get the official word, so now I can start cancelling all the plans I had made for the pre-cruise. -

It is in Cochem on the Moselle. It has something to do with the history of the town. -
Just booked our first River Cruise: Danube on Emerald Waterways
texasstar replied to Chris_Texas's topic in River Cruising
If you haven't already paid the full amount, I would be leery of doing that in these covid times. We booked a Scenic river cruise for May 2020 and paid the full amount in Sept. 2019 so we could get the discount. When that cruise was canceled, the gave us a future cruise credit, which we booked for June 2021. It is looking like this cruise may also be canceled. If we want a refund we have to wait until the end of 2023. So they will have had a substantial amount of our money for 4 years. -
I would suggest you think about the Rhine and Moselle. We cruised this itinerary with AmaWaterways in 2019. The part on the Moselle was our favorite part.

Things are looking up in SW WA. My husband and I both volunteer at a free medical clinic, so we were able to get vaccine #1. So far, not even a sore arm. One step closer to being able to travel again. -
If you haven't already signed on for the post trip, I agree with Robin. Lucerne is easy to do on your own. You can take the train from Basel. We stayed at the Renaissance Lucerne Hotel. It is about 3 blocks from the train station. You can walk anywhere you want to go in Lucerne. We did take an excursion to Mount Pilatus that involved a boat trip across the lake, then a cog train to the top of Mt Pilatus. You can walk to the boat dock also. Lucerne is beautiful, so I wouldn't miss it. You can take a train back to Zurich if your flight is leaving from there. The train station is in the

Don't know if anyone has mentioned the Moselle, but I would make sure that the Rhine cruise included it. It has some very pretty small ports and castles that I would not want to miss.
