With Celebrity it must be supervised: All guests ages 2 and older must present a digital or physical copy of a supervised, negative COVID-19 test result at check-in to board their sailing. RCI, however, simply requires a negative test: Required testing can be completed using any type of PCR or antigen COVID-19 test. It can be professionally proctored at your doctor or drugstore, or it can be a test you administer to yourself at home without supervision.

Just to clarify a point, you don't need to be a member of the National Association of Federal Retirees to get travel insurance with Johnson/MEDOC. Yes, that's true, but the person to whom I was responding was referring to cold weather issues with baggage handlers in Calgary, not Toronto.

I started with MEDOC over 10 years ago and I've been very pleased with them. Not only are the annual fees very reasonable, but the coverage is excellent. Perhaps most importantly, we've had two major (>$10,000) and one minor claim during this period, and each was settled. to my satisfaction. The major ones both involved cruises, with very expensive onboard medical care and changed travel arrangement, one requiring a return home mid way through the cruise, and the other hospitalization and a delayed return home from Europe. In the latter case, the only thing that they wouldn't cover was the cost of our dog's extra days in the kennel! The minor claim was for a trip to Montreal, with train tickets and a paid hotel, cancelled for medical reasons. One of the nice things is that MEDOC covers unlimited trips out of province, so domestic as well as international travel is covered. Bottom line: I highly recommend them.

Lots of other ground crew members have to work outside when the temperature drops. Baggage handlers must have a powerful union if they can refuse to work 'cause it's too cold.

Cruise line conversion rates vary from being quite generous to unacceptable. When they have been favourable, I've frequently bought OBC. The difference between my approach and yours is that when I have the OBC refunded to me at the end of the cruise, I bring it home and tuck it away in a USD account instead of converting it back to CAD.

Even if the reservations are linked, is it possible for one person to get check in times for all four cabins?

It's been quite a number of years since we cruised with RCI, and I don't recall the pricing structure when I previously purchased the DBP. I assume that they take the USD DBP price and convert it to CAD, although perhaps with a slightly better exchange rate than offered by credit card companies. Is this the saving you mention?

Definitely. DW and I continue to wear masks in public venues, and will do so on our next cruise.

So if I understand you correctly, the links are "one way". You linked your wife's reservation to yours and could make bookings for her, but she couldn't book for you until she too went through the linking process and linked your reservation to hers. Oh, just saw your followup post. That confirms it, both parties need to go through the linking process if they want to book on the other's behalf. Thank you!

Thanks. That part I'm ok with, I can go in and book a show for all of us. But will my son, for example, be able to do so, or would he first have to create his own links to the other reservations. While it's not a big problem having just one person - me - making group reservations, it might be easier if others could too.

We have booked a family cruise for next January with a total of 4 separate reservations. I have linked the other three to simplify meal reservations, shore excursions and the like. As DW and I normally cruise together, not with family or friends, I'm not sure of all of the ins and outs of linking. So a couple of questions: 1. If I've linked all of the reservations to my account, will the other family members automatically have the same access from their accounts for making group reservations? 2. If not, can they just go into their accounts and link everyone to their reservations too, or does the system allow only one account holder to link the reservations?

Welcome to Cruise Critic and to the Canadian Cruisers board. If your flight was one that you booked through NCL, there is a good chance that they will wait if the delay is relatively minor. On the other hand, if you booked your flight on your own or through a travel agency, it is unlikely that they'll delay sailing. One of the best practises for cruisers is to arrive at your port a day early to avoid disappointment. Delayed flights are a regular occurrence, and your three hour gap between scheduled arrival and sailing leaves very little wiggle room. Far better to fly in the day before and have a relaxing start to your cruise. Thank you for pointing this out, as I've found an anomaly with either Google Maps or my settings. When I used Google Maps to determine the distance from Regina to Galveston, the result was 2829 km. All of my settings on all of my devices and computers are metric, so Google providing me the result in kilometres is what Google always does. When I asked for directions from Ottawa to Orlando, it provided a distance of 1420. After reading your post, I went back and saw that, for some strange reason, the distance was in miles, not kilometres, but as it always (until now) gives me kilometres, I had just run with the number. Now I need to figure out what happened and why. In the meantime, I'll just look a little more carefully at distance figures to make sure that I know what measurement system is at play.

The route would be approximately twice the length of your Ottawa-Orlando drive and take approximately 28 hours to drive. So two 14-hour days with one night stop, or three days driving 9-10 hours per day. Assuming, of course, that you have good weather and driving conditions.

The average high/low temperatures for Quebec City at the end of October are 46/36 ℉. Of course, you could hit warmer days when a light sweater would be in order, or days when it's snowing. Still, bring sweaters, a warm jacket and gloves if you intend on spending much time outside.The hi/low temperatures for Saguenay average about 4 ℉ lower, so 42/42 ℉.
