  1. I'm sorry. Our last Viking March/April 2022 they tested every day and I liked it. My husband has acute myelogenous leukemia now so we can't cruise.
  2. Were you recently on a cruise and caught it? I hope that you both feel better soon.
  3. Andy I'm so sorry. I enjoy your posts. And your blog.
  4. Did your TA try? Mine was able to. Makes no sense really. I'd have the TA try again.
  5. For September, though, since you are outside the 120 day penalty period, you could cancel and rebook for $100 apiece. We've done it in the past when the difference is significant. We don't book our insurance through Viking, we get it through insuremytrip so not sure how it would affect insurance through Viking. Our TA has always kept us in the same cabin, too...new booking number.
  6. I'm from the Viking Ocean board (for the past 6 or 7 years anyway) and know Clay from there. Is that a shower INSIDE the stateroom? And I'm 6 feet tall, the bed looks sad. Been on over 50 cruises, all mainstream until we discovered Viking. But I've never seen a shower in the room. Unless I'm seeing things?
  7. Clay, do you type your daily updates on your tablet and then just copy and paste when you get wifi?
  8. Clay, we use the same agent. Do you know if Viking has changed their rules? On the that shall not be named page via the ta they said something about x off. I haven’t looked into it since we had to cancel our cruise because of husband's terminal cancer. Back and forth to cancer center. I did a Google and couldn't find updated info.
  9. Our guide was Ketut Wirtana. Ketutbestdriverinbali@gmail.com His fee was ridiculously low and we paid him double. Great guy. We found him on these boards through a gal from Australia. We went to some great local places for lunch. Of course we bought his lunch. We just trusted him to plan our days and it worked out great. If you contact him tell him Dobie and Roger sent you!
  10. Don't you love autocorrect? We hired a private guide in Bali, Ketut Wirtana, for the 4 days after our Auckland to Bali cruise on our own extension. He took us to the Kecak dance as well and positioned us to watch the sunset. The white monkey sat on my husband's lap. A private guide is certainly the way to go. It was a great 4 days!!!
  11. We really liked seeing the dragons. We really hated the heat (can't be helped) and the walk was LONG. Plus we had to wait before we started. They were waiting for people who were late. Frankly, it sucked. And the sales thing was AWFUL! So, whoever posted disappointed missing Komodo and having to go to Rinca, I think you were lucky...
  12. Sounds like we would have liked Rinca better. Don't remember on Komodo how long our walk was but it seemed forever because of the heat. And we climbed a hill, coming down my husband fell and cut his arm. It was bleeding. So, naturally, worried about the dragons. The "guides" had no type of first aid or even band aids. I did. (Hey, I was a Girl Scout). It turned out fine but it was so hot for such a long walk. And then the horrible gauntlet of vendors.

  14. That's nice. We were on Viking when we went in 2019. Or 2018. Sorry, don't remember. Lots of stress lately. We did Auckland to Bali.
  15. The worst part about the Komodo dragons was have to walk back to the ship through the big overhead market with booths selling stuff. I probably would have bought something if I wasn't forced to walk through with all of these over aggressive sales people..Granted, there was a line on the ground that they couldn't cross. But it was awful. You walk down the beach past the deer that will be eaten by dragons and are herded through shops. In the heat.
  16. A passenger in the stateroom next to the one where the fire started stated that they grabbed their passports etc to evacuate and the smoke in the hallway was so thick and black that she couldn't see where she was going. She said that the stench was horrible even on the floor below. She was worried that all of her clothes etc would be ruined.
  17. According to Sydney Australia news: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11707563/Viking-Orion-cruise-ship-evacuated-fire-three-rooms.html
  18. When we've cruised to Hawaii the captains have always slowed down and then cruised in a circle so that everyone could see the volcano. And I don't remember which, I remember the smell of the sulfur and hearing the lava hit the ocean. It was awesome.
  19. They are currently doing ship building on Viking Jupiter too. Someone on the site that must not be named put up a bunch of pictures of the snowmen on this cruise. Very creative! Lots of participation it looks like. I'm loving reading the blogs.
  20. I am so sorry for all of you. We so enjoyed our Auckland to Bali cruise in 2019. A floating hotel is very nice but doesn't compare to the ports and adventures that you were planning on. I'm sorry.
  21. Could be you get it on the way home. But if you test positive as soon as you get home, most likely you got it before the airplane. Who knows? And who knows why Clay has to test? Maybe they will tell him when he asks (and he WILL!)😁😁😁
  22. That's not what I said (meant) I said that they didn't realize that they had it until they got home and then tested. I apologize that I didn't make myself clear.
  23. Very interesting, Clay, about the Covid test. Are they anticipating that you will have contracted it? I know a lot of people don't realize that they have it until they fly home. Hmmmmm
