  1. I am a Long Islander for over 50 years living just south of Plainview ( Farmingdale). Such fun to read these posts. First, there is absolutely NO need to get a hotel the night before a cruise in New Jersey if leaving from Plainview. That would be ridiculous. We always take the Southern State to the Belt to the Verrazano and then north to the Port. On a Sunday morning it takes about 90 minutes, maybe less. Other times a bit more depending on time of day. But no need to leave before Dawn! I once hired a car service who took us through lower Manhattan and through the Holland Tunnel That was a disaster! Took hours. Would never advise that! In summation, no need to worry about the drive. Leave yourself a couple of hours and you will be fine.
  2. I assume you are disembarking at Port Liberty, This is a problem. Meadowlander has just about every idea that is possible, but they would be expensive and although something to do, not really worth it. The port in NJ is totally isolated from any walkable places. And except for NYC which needs a bit of thought out public transportation choices there is nothing of interest around it. If I were you, I would either take the ship excursion and accept the time waiting at the airport, or find a later flight!
  3. Also feel your pain. I once had a similar experience and it did not end well. If I were you, I would find any airport in south Florida that had rental cars available as soon as possible and deal with insurance later. Did you check Fort Myers airport?
  4. Almost with you on that thought, although now I take very few photos. I stop and think, “ How many photos are my heirs going to want of me standing in front of the Eiffel Tower?” Knowing my minimalist children, I’d say maybe one!
  5. Years ago a park ranger in Grand Canyon NP, spoke these same words to us. The only time I remember being told not to bring back on board any shells or rocks was a stop in New Brunswick, Canada. It is good advice.
  6. Thanks! Why didn’t I ever think of that?
  7. This topic was recently hotly debated on the HAL board. Many yays and nays on whether or not people found door decorations annoying or loved them. I have decorated on Royal, Celebrity and Holland and never had a problem. Usually just a few window clings so friends can find my door, but I have been a little more ambitious during the Christmas holidays! Going on the NCL Joy this summer and wonder if it will be allowed.
  8. There is another live thread currently, that has a snapshot of the current Dailey on the Pearl, warning that door decorations are forbidden and will be removed.
  9. Ocean voyage then, kind of like my life here in Seattle! thank you
  10. I realize that weather is unpredictable. But we will be doing this itinerary soon for the first time. For those of you that have done this trip, can you tell me what the outside temperature is likely to be, and what the motion of the ship generally is, in late April- early May? Thank you
  11. Would never leave used toiletries in the cabin! Heck I don’t even leave any unopened toiletries in my guest room! That would be disgusting.
  12. As I said, not all ships I have been on have libraries. Not all of my cruises are on Royal.
  13. All of the kidding aside,I really just wanted to know if leaving behind something could be either useful to someone or is it a nuisance. I did like the response of leaving some of the children’s clothes behind. I know that so many of the crew have young ones back in their homelands.
  14. Actually my hangers don’t come from the dollar store. They are repurposed from my clothes from the dry cleaner who by the way asks for any hangers you wish to return to her. Since I won’t spend the money on a suite, and I’ve never driven a Chevy or a Porsche, but only Volvos and Mercedes,( and a few Fords when I was young), I guess I don’t have to worry about either suite hangers, or dirty cup holders. LOL.
  15. I confess that sometimes I will bring a few of my own clothes hangers with me on a cruise and then leave them in the closet when I leave. I have also been known to leave a finished book on the coffee table, hoping someone might like it. ( most ships no longer have libraries to donate it). A friend once bought a cheap beach chair in a port to use for the duration of the cruise and left it. I imagine people also buy umbrellas, soft coolers, etc., and don’t want to take them home. Is anything ever offered to the crew or does it all become waste?
  16. Agree Glacier Bay is a must. I’ve been to Alaska three times and it is the best part of the trip. Have been on both Quantum and Encore for different venues and agree with others that the Encore would be my choice for this voyage. It’s panoramic view is perfect for what you will be seeing. Don’t know what your other NCL ship was, but this class of ship is really nice. If you are spending a few days in Seattle, make sure to check out the West Coast departure boards. Lots of good advice there.
  17. Clever idea StLouisCruisers. Do I understand correctly that this would have been a poster of the cruise that you were currently on? That would be great for me because I can never remember what port I am going to next! And wouldn’t it have been easier for the poster thief to have brought his wife to your door to admire it? LOL
  18. A sheet of dollar tree stickers takes up almost no space at all at the bottom of the suitcase, and if I need that extra minute at the bar that it takes to slap them on my door I might have bigger problems!
  19. Last summer. Me: black pants dressy top. Husband: sport jacket. Dress shirt everyone else: everything in between. No judgements. note: if you are going on the Denali option, very casual every night on the land portion!
  20. Not sure what you are getting at, but be assured, we native New Yorkers, Jeresyites, are perfectly civilized and very friendly. We also are probably in the same income bracket. So no need to worry about the clientele from that port.
  21. I have a 3 year old granddaughter who sails with her parents and this is correct.
  22. No it just said, “Hawaii sailings”, but since my May voyage is Honolulu to Vancouver I assume it is TP. Also my Roll Call is all reporting it also.
  23. Just received an email that as of today, Covid pretesting has been lifted from Royal Caribbean Hawaii sailings
