  1. Right. Their ships are too large. The treaty limits size of about 500 IIRC. I understand that's it's not everyone's cup of tea.
  2. I have asked "what kind of business were you in" if I feel like the person might be okay with that. Notice, I didn't say "what did you do for a living?"
  3. I went through that for just too long. Too far apart for me is just tiring and doesn't accomplish. And, hey, I'm on vacay!
  4. To Antarctica??? We went there on a small ship a few years ago. It was incredible. It was part of a land trip that included Argentinian and Chilean. Began in BA and ended in Santiago, Chilean. Trip of a lifetime.
  5. And the second time will be WAY easier.
  6. They've given you 'permission.' Don't ask again, sweetie.
  7. I'm as "hard left" as one can get and agree with 100%. And if someone tries to do it I will so "no" firmly. If that doesn't work, I'll leave the table.
  8. Absolutely correct. An enormous problem that sure won't be solved here. But, yes. I keep saying that we really need - if going to eat meat - to buy local. We have that but I just cringe over the prices. But, hey, we travel.
  9. 100% correct. And something, when traveling in groups, I had to teach myself. I used to be on a food site that could be SO judgmental. So I learned. An example of 'different strokes.' You won't find me being a "chair hog" cause I loathe the sun.
  10. Maybe book it and THEN tell your parents. BTW I'm 76. Go for it. And report back Please.
  11. Well, on every post we can "like," "thanks," and "laugh." Works for me.
  12. And likely the most environmentally incorrect. They usually have one calf and in a typical ranch the amount of water that's required to provide them with hay is huge.
  13. Nope. I'd grab street food if pressed for time. It's my fave food place - including my own home 🙂
  14. There are still some entries into California that check and confiscate produce from other states. I've heard that cherries in particular may be an issue. It's because CA is such a major supplier of agriculture than they don't want it contaminated.
  15. OMG, we moved away from The City over 30 years ago but still visit. Just checked and they've been around since the 60s. Hoping to get back soon. Thanks.
  16. Oh, I hear ya, and totally understand. We're long retired and have no family that needs any attention. One of our daughters and her family go "off the grid" at least a couple of times a year 🙂 And, hey, thank for that app info. That could be fun.
  17. We've traveled the last few years on Oceania and their wifi has been fine for us. I can't remember any time we've actually NEEDED to make contact. I really need to count the number of countries I"VE been to. (My husband traveled intl a lot for business.) But I've hit six continents. Just checked: I've been to Antarctica but they have no restaurants including fast food 🙂
  18. I've never cruised solo but I would highly recommend it for a first time solo traveler. You can have as much or as little interaction with others as you choose. Go for coffee - at a non busy time. The library. Sit alone at a meal. Or join others...or let them join you...if they ask politely. (I don't know you're gender but I'll say) You go, girl 🙂
  19. Yeah, squatting over holes in the ground, I've accepted. But no wifi???????? LOL.
  20. At some point in this last period of time I've commented that generally I'm a lover of change...but only if it improves things. I didn't even see the path for improvement. PS: I've been checking here once a day and was SO pleased to see this change. I hope it's permanent or at least until you come up with something better. THANKS, @LauraS
  21. We are absolutely the same re food. We've done a number of escorted land tours. When we leave the coach with the group for lunch, if they go to the right we go to the left. And then up a side street and maybe another. I google restaurants before we go and stay away from sites like Yelp except to get addresses. I miss being at home and cooking.
  22. We used to have a place in Rio and can't remember but one time going for fast food. But one day we had an appt and needed to have a quick lunch so hit KFC. What we remember is that the food was served on real plate and flatware and glasses. And they bused the table. We were pretty amazed 🙂 Scream bloody murder!!!!!!!!!! In my favorite food city in the world I would never, ever eat fast food in Barcelona. Talk about "to each their own.' LOL.
