  1. I’m testing today and want to make sure I don’t have to sign up using Navica as well. SS says all that is needed is a certificate with your name, the date of the test and the result. And to provide in digital or printed form. If someone can confirm that would be great. Thanks
  2. Just curious of anyones experience with your cruise line traveling to Canada where you tested positive when you were getting close to disembarking in a Canada port per canada govt site they have a 10 day quarantine/ isolation period vs 5 days like the US. So what happens when you disembark? Are you met by the Canadian authorities to complete your isolation, does your cruise line make arrangements for you I,e hotel, airline changes, is anyone checking that you are isolating? To fly home to US you are not required to provide a negative test, how formal is the process now? thanks in advance for any response.
  3. Thanks Lois! As always you are so helpful! I’m sorry you are not on our nyc to Quebec cruise , I could thank you in person 😊. So it never asked you for the city for the embarkation, just the date you first embarked the ship and then the only city you entered was the debarkation city (which for you was also your first city) . And the. After all that, they never even asked for the QR code when you arrived ,,,,We will give it a try. Thanks again and have a great trip to Canada back to NYC! 😊
  4. Hi Lois Welcome back from your cruise. So it looks like you were on the ship inUS waters more than the 72 hours before arriving in Vancouver ( which I assume was your first stop in Canada ? ) how did you complete the Arrivecan app to enter a date 72 hours before you boarded. It did not look like I could put any date > 3 days from the current date, for what I thought was the date I was due to arrive in Canada? I have everything saved except the arrival date into Halifax which would be our first stop in Canada, or since I select that I’m coming by boat, the eta date into Halifax is not the date I load, it’s the date I board the ship in NY since the app says 72 hours before you board the ship is when you have to complete the online form? just trying to prepare and don’t want to put the wrong date. also did you have to test before you boarded in Seward ? I’m getting confused by the Canadian .gov site that says no testing is required, but if you hit the link they provide for cruise ships, you DOhave to test 2-3 days before you board the ship. Thanks in advance liz

    Gaspe

Thanks Sue I will keep for reference. Enjoy your cruise!
  6. Has anyone stopped in Gaspe? That is one of our stops and was hoping to take the Perce tour, but I’m waitlisted. Has anyone done the boat tour to see the Rock and the town of Perce? Is the town of Gaspe interesting to walk around ? Are there any nice walking areas for nice views? Just wondering what my options are if we can’t get on the Perce Rock tour. thanks in advance
  7. Thanks lx. Now I know I can at least take the antigen test anytime within that 2 days prior. Unfortunately it doesn’t make me happy hearing the 10 day isolation if you test positive during the cruise. Let’s cross our fingers that we don’t get symptoms that would generate the need for a test. It also appears that we may have difficulty flying home from Canada per the link you sent, which we should not have to deal with when flying back to the states(US does not require a test to come back) , so let’s hope we don’t run into any issues. I thought Canada had lifted these tougher restrictions before US did. thanks Rover, so they never requested a proof of negative test even though the Canadian govt website says you need to have a negative test either 48 hours (antigen) or 72 hours (PCR) before boarding the ship per the govt link. Our cruise line is finally removing the testing requirements for boarding, except for certain countries , and Canada was one of them . Guess we will wait and see….and hope.
  8. Just curious if anyone has taken a cruise starting in the states to Canada? My friend traveled via car and told me they have random testing of travelers at the border. Her mother was selected, essentially given a test to mail back to authorities. It seemed ridiculous since by the time she would get the results back she would have been leaving Canada. Since we are entering via cruise ship and our cruise is currently requesting the test 48 hours before embarking And we would not be arriving to Canada until 4 days after cruise embarkation , has anyone been asked to take another test (if selected) once we disembark in first Canadian port? Did you show your Arrivecan QRcode to authorities when you left the ship, or did they collect that information from you while on board ( I.e cruise line collected your documents and provided to the authorities on board? I just wanted to know what your recent experience had been. thanks in advance
  9. Thanks everyone. I’ll check that section on the app more closely. I know I selected arrival by maritime vessel, so I should be ok when it’s time to load. happy and safe travels everyone!
  10. So can you complete the ArriveCan earlier than 3 days arrival at first Canadian port? We board our cruise in NYC and will have 3 more stops in US ports so on day 4 of our cruise I think we hit our first Canadian port . I was under the impression I could not select an entry date in Arrivecan app until exactly 3 days before arrival. I have already created an account and it would not allow me to put any date after the 3 days displayed on the app. Appreciate any advice or feedback for those traveling with similar travel circumstances. Thanks in advance
  11. Unfortunately I think I’m more confused, curious if there is anyone who has contracted or knowingly come into contact with someone with Covid within 30 days of their cruise , but had officially recovered prior to boarding, (I.e per theCDC guidelines 5-10 days prior) and also tested negative 48hours prior , were you denied boarding, given another test , etc? We are approaching that 30 day window, luckily no Covid, but was not planning to isolate until maybe 2-3 weeks b4 to avoid any potential contact. If we test negative per the 48 hour requirement , I just want to make sure answering the health questionnaire honestly of a potential infection will not result in denial of boarding. Possibly no one knows the answer, but if someone has experience that would be great. Of course I can call SS directly, but seems like sometimes there are conflicting responses from headquarters vs onboard. thanks again everyone for your help
  12. Thanks everyone for your responses . I’m wondering if you were to contract Covid within 15-30 days of the cruise ship date , but have recovered within the CDC recommended guidelines 5-10 days after symptoms first start, and no longer test positive, can you still board? The cancellation policy says if you contract or come in contact with someone with Covid within 30 days of cruise you can cancel and receive FCC. I’m just wondering is that a decision for me to make or SS will not accept anyone to board even if recovered b4 boarding date and have a negative test?
  13. I’m curious for those who have recently traveled with SS, first, do you fill out a health questionnaire the day you board or just present your vaccine card and your proof of negative test? If a questionnaire, Does it ask whether you have had, recovered, or been around someone with Covid within last 30 days? I’m assuming it should not matter if one had Covid within 30 days or not , as long as they’ve recovered and have a negative test 48 hours before boarding(especially since CDC now says you only need to isolate for 5 days). I’m just curious how long we should stay away from people b4 our cruise to avoid any chance of coming into contact with others that could be infected. That’s what we did last year, but 30 days now seems like overkill. thanks in advance
  14. We scheduled a last minute cruise with a vista gty and found out at least 2 weeks b4 we had a veranda room, so we were happy. We booked another vista gty for a cruise Next year on the dawn and have already been assigned another veranda suite. So both gtys resulted in upgrades to veranda suites, but they were both on the muse type ships . Our first gty was relatively central on deck 5, our gty next year is on Deck 5 , but closer to the front of the ship. Can anyone provide insight on room 505 on the dawn . Is that an undesirable location? Thanks in advance
  15. We are staying at our go to hotel ,the Bryant hotel, but we booked that awhile ago and looks like prices have increased significantly since then, but not 3-5x what we paid . Not sure your budget, but good luck hopefully you can find something that meets your needs…
  16. Elaine I’m glad you are feeling more comfortable and am sure the doctor will prepare your husband on what to expect and do going forward. Just so you know , my dad was told you “should not” go through the detectors at the airport or the cruise ship because it could interfere with the device and the monitor that provides the feedback/heart rate, etc. I was surprised to see others go through them, assume they never ran into problems with the equipment . enjoy your cruise
  17. Elaine my father has a pacemaker and essentially you need to tell all the security people at the airports and the cruise line that your husband has a pacemaker and they should then pull him aside and not allow him to go through the metal detectors . I believe they may use the wand instead or pat him down , but you should probably check with the doctor what security apparatus you can go through with a pacemaker. I’m pretty sure you can not go through the ones at the airport , but some may be acceptable. But again talk to the doctor and have him provide a document you can share with the agents at the security checkpoints at the airport. good luck to you and your husband and enjoy your cruise liz
  18. Ata we are also on your cruise. I assume you don’t like group tours which is why you are inquiring. We don’t particularly like them either, but since they are included in the cruise fare, we are taking the included tour titled ‘ In the Vanderbilts footsteps’. It includes the Breakers and the marble house tours (not the Elms), I see the tour as a means of transportation, as well as entrance fees, that I don’t need to arrange or pay for on top of the cruise fare. Also not sure how many tours they allow during the day and if there are other cruise ships in the port also providing similar tours . Will there be availability is what I’m wondering. . Good luck with your private car search, I hope everything works out. . I’m wondering don’t you have to arrange for tickets in advance especially for the Breakers? . We were there years ago and I feel like this was required, but maybe you can pick them up at the door the day of. Looking forward to this cruise as I’m sure you are also ATA . Happy planning! 😊
  19. Lois- I just started reading this post since we just booked a trip next year on the Dawn and can’t tell you how sorry I was to see that you suffered that injury and thus put a damper on your cruise experience as well as your return home. I’m glad you made it home safely and hope you recover soon especially in time for your next cruise. thanks again for taking the time (as always) to keep your fellow cruise critic members informed and providing helpful feedback about your experience. take care liz
  20. Would be interested Wes if you receive similar notification about the Cape Town port change for your C2C 2023 cruise. We were planning on booking that same cruise, but would like to know b4 hand if they would eliminate Cape Town embark/disembark port. I agree that it seems odd that they would know operational issues in 2024 but that would not exist in 2023, unless the size of the ship is the issue being that the C2C in 2023 is on the spirit vs the smaller Cloud

    Airfare

I know a number of SS travelers have posted negative experiences with SS air, but depending on your home airport, experiences could vary. Although I have yet to actually travel using SS air (due to me cancelling cruises due to Covid and other reasons) I have had 3 air overseas itineraries booked with SS and everyone of them was exactly what I wanted and I could never get those prices on my own. There was no question in each case, especially with Covid uncertainty, I was booking with SS air. If I had done on my own ( which was what we used to do Pre-Covid) we would have been on the hook for that air cost whether we cancelled or SS cancelled the cruise. There was no question that SS air made the most sense. Based on your situation, it sounds like it makes the most sense for you too. Again I never actually took the flights, so would never know if there would have been any major disruptions , but I was extremely satisfied with the offerings. FYI we fly out of Philadelphia, a major hub, so more options than a smaller regional airport .. good luck!
  22. Well I went into my SS to see if truly no availability and other than a few days where it said La Dame was unavailable, la terraza was available every night. Almost all the excursions appeared available also. Thanks Stumblefoot for the info, nice to know that even if they may show waitlist on my SS that they have a policy that keeps spaces open in these dining venues for after we board.
  23. Ata I believe we are on the same cruise, (1st leg of your b2b) so no worries, we booked a number of nights in La Terraza because we wont be doing formal nights and since they don’t display the formal nights on our itinerary prior to the cruise, once we know , we will be cancelling some of those reservations. Possibly others do the same thing, not sure. If not a formal night , we’d gladly give you our table if it’s truly fully booked, which I don’t believe it really is this many days prior , I think it may be a system glitch especially for a B2B ? good luck and enjoy your cruise, We too are looking forward to it!
  24. AK I finally was able to speak to my SS agent and he could not tell me much , as I suspected, since nothing has been officially communicated to them regarding this particular cruise. He could only say after talking to another colleague, it could possibly be an itinerary change when excursions are missing from MySS and the website, but again he was not confirming that. I believe I saw on FB Silverseas passenger’s page a similar comment, possible changes to itinerary and when they know more they would update the website. Again nothing specific and since I decided to change this cruise due to multiple factors , and rebooked another cruise for next year , so I didn’t press the issue. Hopefully it’s simply an itinerary change and the cruise will go as scheduled, with some minor adjustments, but you should contact your agent directly since you are still planning on taking this cruise, if you are concerned. good luck and I hope it all gets sorted out and cruise goes as scheduled and is not a partial charter as some here in CC have stated it could be based on their personal experience..
  25. I was able to do this last year, however, I don’t know if the cancellation policies have changed since you booked, so you are better off calling them to confirm. However, if you booked air through them and they have ticketed your flight, you would be on the hook for that . Luckily for us they had not ticketed our flights, so it worked for us. good luck
