  1. Im so looking forward to this. We did vancouver to seward last August. Perfect weather, too. Hopefully you will experience that as well! Thought you might enjoy this clip from the today show if you haven't seen it. http://t.today.com/news/sweethearts-down-syndrome-wed-30-years-after-meeting-2D79669604

    The article is lovely.......touching.....sniff!!!

I too will be looking forward to the latest Navigator adventures! Can't wait for it to begin!

    Fair winds and following seas,

    Linda

  2. As Ted mentioned, try stopping in at Prime 7 on occasion and just ask. Earlier is better than later. The worst that they'll say in "no, sorry".

On our last evening of a week long Alaska cruise, on a whim, my daughter and I had finished packing and ran up to Prime 7 right at opening time and asked if a table for two might possibly, by some miracle, be available. Some sort of magic was typed into the little computer and VOILA. a table for two by the window became ours.

My point is, it never hurts to ask. Go early.

  3. Does anyone know where the Voyager will dock when in Stockholm? We will only be there for a day and a half........Is there any MUST see sight that we shouldn't miss? We're great ones for just walking around, love local markets, etc. Any suggestions, greatfully accepted!

We're staying at Regent's digs, the Scandic Grand Central.

  4. Good Morning:

I was on the Navigator Eastern Caribbean itinerary departing 22 MAR 14 and called Regent in advance to request Hendricks. Although it is not carried onboard, I was told that they woud try their best. Lo and behold when we got into our cabin, there she was sitting pretty and next to some diet club soda!!! Ask and you shall receive.

    Enjoy your upcoming cruise!

WOW! that would be most wonderful! However at this second in time, we're slightly sweating the Baltic.......in news this am, the British, French and soon to come, Danish are sending jets to Lithuania, Estonia and Poland.....oy vey....not too happy. However I know that Regent will not put us in harms way, just really, really liked the itinerary the way it is (was?). I digress....

thank you all for the heads up...

  5. Agree! Just noticed that I put Don Julio and Patron tequila on the same line - oops! I was really happy when these two tequilas were added to the included list. While I rarely drink tequila, it is nice to sip with lime and salt. Think it's time for Happy Hour :D

mmmmm! Sounds wonderful! We'll be right over!

The one missing gin that I really like is Hendriks (with cucumber). Do you think I could ask for that, even tho it's not on the list?

  6. Although I wouldn't call our cruise "empty", there are A LOT of available cabins. I'm guessing the Russian situation isn't doing much to foster confidence for the Baltics this summer. There are still a couple of months yet to go. Maybe this means I can get a lounger at the pool !

  7. I had no problem using euros in Lithuania. And Finland is on the euro anyway, but you definitely need danish, Norwegian, and Swedish krona. And Russian rubles though the tourist shops accept euros and US dollars.

And make sure you have a credit card with a chip and pin. Otherwise you're up a creek without a paddle in Northern Europe.

ahhhh, a chip and a pin? At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, what does that mean?

Pin number? I don't believe I have that with or on any of my cards........I have no idea what a chip is........(I don't get out much.....haha!)

  8. We have a fair amount of euros left from a previous trip to the Med. I realize that Estonia and Finland are on the euro system, but what about some of these others? Sweden?, Norway?, Denmark?, Russia?. Will they accept Euros? We will use a credit card for anything sizable, but would like to have a little "walking around money". Will the ship change small amounts of US or euros into the local currency? We prefer not using ATM's, if at all possible.

  9. After reading countless threads on this board, it seems like "Misty Fjord by Floatplane" is the must-do item here. Unfortunately, it's sold out for our sailing. Does anyone know if there are any independent tour options that will give you the same experience?

Alternatively, are there any other recommendations for what to do at the Ketchikan stop?

While hardly the "float plane" my daughter and I did the "catch your fish, then they cook it at a wilderness campsite" tour....haha....I forget the actual name of it. It was WONDERFUL! One of the highlights of our cruise. I was so impressed with our guide, the boat, even our supplied foulies were of the highest quality...all Helly Hansen. We went with another couple and had a ball. We all caught "rock fish" and didn't have any luck getting the much prized halibut. Saw bears from the boat, fed eagles the cleanings from our fish, etc. We were taken to the most beautiful campsite where our fish was cleaned, wonderful lunch prepared for us. Best guides ever! It helps you're an outdoorsy type, but even those who where not had a blast! Highly recommend it!

  10. My daughter and I did the Navigator to Alaska last year. We had a fabulous time! We left our husbands home and did the "girly" thing. Had a ball with the excursions; loved them all! All of the waiters, bartenders, cabin stewards took extra good care of us girls. Our weather couldn've been better (mid May) but we didn't let that stop us at all. Sat on our balcony, wrapped up in the big blue blankets and had cocktails in the rain! We were protected and the shore line was just as lovely in the mist and wispy fog, as it would've been in the sun. Have a wonderful time! Know you'll enjoy it!

  11. We personally love St. Martin Dutch side. Something about doing the shops on the main drag and then walking about 100 feet and putting your feet in the ocean! I think they've worked pretty hard on the infra structure since our first time there, probably 30 years ago. Yes, it's now somewhat sanitized, but still fun. Prices are more reasonable on everything (from beer to booze) than St. Thomas. Even when a full slate of ships are in, it doesn't seem as crowded as St. Thomas, to me, anyway.

St. Martin, French side. I've only been there once. It was a pretty good cab ride and the traffic was terrible. GREAT food over there and some nude beaches which neither my husband or myself were in shape (literally!) for, although I like the idea! hahaha!

In general it's an island I don't get tired of..........

  12. I'm quite sure it's 499$ each way. We just did this for a different cruise and it came out to just short of 1000$ round trip for each person. I just looked at what "normal" out of pocket cost would be for our flights (Newark to Stockholm) and it's just obscene! 6000$ plus per person EACH WAY in BC.......bringing the grand total to more than 24,000$ dollars for both of us if we booked it online without a deal.

I've been following your thread and I understand what stick in the muds can be like to deal with. I feel for you. Any way you can throw in a couple of bucks yourself to "ease Grandpa's pain"?

No matter what you do, you'll have a wonderful time on the ship! Enjoy every minute!
