  1. Thank you for your answers. Glad to hear about Patron and hopefully the Hendricks. I'm hopeful there is better "champagne" onboard than Bouvet. I know that one well. While we're hardly wine snobs, that really isn't much more than "mimosa" champagne. If I'm paying Regent prices, I would expect a respectable champagne, not sparkling wine. Again, I have nothing against a nice sparkling wine, but on a special occasion (and cruising Regent, IS a special occasion!!!) I'd expect bona fide champagne.

  2. November 2012 Rio to Miami and then Miami to Newark. Both on American. Although I suppose it's unusual to be offered (free) food, we had dinner on the Rio to Miami segment. In all of our years of travel, (that's a lot) We've never had worse food. Basically inedible.

There wasn't even a small part of it that was at all tasty. They did, however, get us home on time and in one piece. All luggage came as well and those are the important parts!!!!

  3. I'm so glad that you didn't have any problems with odors. Maybe it was the way the wind was blowing when we noticed it or some other reason. It could very well be, as Rachel mentioned, someone using a toilet improperly. Regardless of the reason, it might be something that Regent could look into on the next drydock, as we're not the only ones who've mentioned this problem. Glad you had a great cruise (as did we!).

  4. The lido/veranda area is the deck that the pool is on. The Veranda is the indoor area where breakfast, buffet lunch is served. If you put a search in for this forum and put something to the effect of "sewage odor on Mariner" or "Odor on the Mariner", you'll find it. Posted not long ago..This seems to be an ongoing problem. Although I didn't complain, I'm sure the powers that be must be aware of it. You'd have to be dead not to smell it. It really should be addressed. This has been going on for awhile.

  5. I know this isn't going to sit well with all the Regentites, and will probably be deleted as it's IMO and it's a negative.

We just returned from a basically lovely cruise on Regent Mariner. 17 days, Southern Sojourn. And, yep.....hate to say it, there WAS a funky smell in the stern. It wasn't continual, but for probably a total of 3 days ( out of 17), it was there. We got that odor, stongly in the Veranda/Lido area. I'm basically a Pollyanna, sort of gal, but this pretty well stopped me in my tracks. It then came flooding back to me about comments on such on this board. Who ever mentioned it was right on.........

It didn't last long.........but I was grateful we were midships. Sorry,kids.........

  6. Hi Jen,

I enjoyed your note to CC. You were certainly among the "priviledged" to be able to spend so much time aboard the RVL ships. They truely did have a way of making kids special. I had posted while back about our wonderful experiences aboard with our daughter (probably about 7 or 8) back in the late 80's. Your list of the wonderful Skald awards made me giggle. Tomorrow, my daughter and I are off to Atlantic City for a little bright lighting and fun....guess what I've packed my things in??!!!! My RVL logo duffle!!!!!

  7. Hate to get emotional, but this all put a lump in my throat! Yes, we do miss RVL. Although we've cruised alot, probably 50+ at this point, RV Star and Sea were our absolute favorites. RV Star to Bermuda out of NY was our daughter's first cruise, she was 7 at the time, (she just graduated from college this year and fondly remembers it as well) and it was so memorable in many ways......Someone mentioned Julie and her harp. Before dinner on a formal night, we went up to that wonderful observation bar in the bow of ship (forgive me I can't recall it's exact name, but you know the one I mean!). Julie was dressed in green tafeta and our Elizabeth had on her best velvet dress. She was fascinated by Julie and her harp, as we all were! Julie asked Elizabeth to help her play something and put E on her lap while the two of them played the harp together.....something we'll never forget!!! ALF was the bartender up there and made the best, most wonderful drinks.......a bloody mary served in a fresh, carved green pepper, fresh strawberry concoctions for our daughter........stuff you just don't find anymore!

Other happy memories include seeing some of the ships staff dressed in dirndls with balloons on the bow of the ship before sailing.......

    Crew shows with scandinavian dancing......

Ice cold freshly shucked oysters in ice out by the pool on a sea day (oh gosh, so yummy !)

Beautiful glassware given for being a SKALD member

Hearing "SKALD" ring out thru the dining room

Enough happy memories.......but you get the idea......we loved RVL too!
